The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread
2019
2019
List thread is here.
The Details
Challenge starts July 31st at 12:01 am local time.
Challenge ends September 1st at dawn.
Rules
Movies/TV shows should be labeled Animation from either imdb.com or allmovie.com. Other labels don't matter as long as there is at least a Animation label from one of those sites. Action/Animation would be fine.
This is the challenge where any and all types of animation is welcome, computer, hand drawn, puppetry, stop motion, etc. The entire movie/show does not need to be completely animated. Something like Roger Rabbit or a Ray Harryhausen film would generally be allowed.
If anyone has a problem with something someone watches or just wants an opinion on if it's animation or not, ask here.
Animation documentaries are allowed but not DVD featurettes/interviews that are just fluff promo pieces.
As with the other challenges, the lists must be numbered or it won't count.
Watching the movie/show with the commentary can counted as unique items.
Watching multiple versions(theatrical and director's cut) of the same movie/show will also count.
Lists
Since the general consensus seems to be for the easy counting method we will go with that. However, it is not required, so if you wish to count another way, feel free, as I will not be doing stats.
How to win
Names will be randomly selected from http://www.random.org/lists/ The top people, one prize per person, get something. Unfortunately, prizes can only go to people who live in the States.

Also, Jellyfish Eyes, King of Jazz and the Eclipse set, Dusan Makavejev: Free Radical could count as well.

Re: The 10th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
Please take a look at the check list. I alphabetized the sections and changed some of the requirements. I also added Pixar to the studios list and two new names to the actors list (Messick and Garrett).
There is also my thought from last year: I thinking of moving the stand alone list item, Watch a Saturn Award for Best Animation Film winner, down to the 4 stand alones (watch an animated non-fiction movie, Academy Award Short film, watch something that had a tv spinoff (or vice versa) and watch an Academy Award animated film) and make all 5 of them watch 3 out of 5.
OR I could move all 5 of those to the other one of those (with watching an anime/puppet show/etc...) and just make it one big section. So Saturn Award winner, the 4 stand alones and the other short list of options (anime/puppet show).
Thoughts on this?

I'm debating whether to watch Dragonball Z: Dragon Boxes as I have the complete set or to start with Thundercats or He-Man. I will continue to watch Detective Conan from last year challenge.
Decisions, Decisions...

I might start watching cartoons early, as I have quite a few sci fi and fantasy animated series and movies.

Thanks for the feedback, anyone else with suggestions or comments?
Or watch 'em all. Rotate through so you don't burn out? I've had that happen, where I like a show, but after sitting down and watching 20-30 episodes in a row, I'm just ready to stop. But if I alternate between discs (so more 3-4 episodes) then it's not so bad.
Never hurts to start early!

I'm always glad to see some additions to the studios and actors list. I like the current checklist but I'm open to any changes that are made.

This was a suggestion over on the Sci-Fi/Fantasy challenge, but does anyone have any comments/feelings about adding Peter Cullen to the voice actor list?

First day of the challenge has arrived! I hope everyone is enjoying their first watches!
The checklist is finalized. Make sure you are using the updated version. The one in this thread was updated but the list thread was only updated a few minutes ago.
Prize update: I've contacted GoldenWheels about prizes a while ago, but so far haven't heard back. Will update when I get more information!
Enjoy the challenge, everyone!

I started in the middle of the night when I woke up with the first episode of a documentary series on prehistoric animals. I like to take advantage of this Challenge to watch cgi movies and tv shows as well as other kinds of animation.

I just came back from the cottage and didn't have time to start anything yet. I'll probably watch a episode or two of the latest Detective Conan episodes on Crunchyroll.

After a very long time, I watched Vampire Hunter D tonight. I loved it the first time I saw it but rewatching it, I don’t think it holds up as well.

Um LJG, could you look at orlmac's list in the list thread. It kept reverting to like this in the Science Fiction list thread but only when I hit edit. Now it's all bolloxed up without hitting edit. Could you (or anyone else) tell me what to do to stop this from happening (and hopefully fix it right now). Thanks!

It's pretty early in the challenge, could you just start over? Delete everything that's there and re-enter your watches/checklist? A pain, but do-able.
My final suggestion is try to get a hold of a mod. See if there is a way for them to fix it on their end? I haven't seen this glitch here before so not sure what would have caused it...
Sorry! I hope something I mentioned ends up helping!

Thanks, coyoteblue! My version that I saw was pretty garbled. I had hoped that I still had a clean version but I had already refreshed it after it went wonky.

The English dub which I saw first is quaint but I enjoy it more in Japanese with subtitles. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is the one I struggle rewatching... "Charlotte, Charlotte, I love you..."

Most of the editors are pretty horrible on a browser - even the recommended, supported, one breaks things horribly (that would be the "Enhanced Interface - Full CKEditor editing" one).
Here are the choices:
Basic Editor - A simple text box
Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls
Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG editing
Enhanced Interface - Full CKEditor editing
I've found only the "Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls" works well and still allows "old style" formatting of posts without adding the junk that messes things up royally. The main drawback is often you get a smallish box that can't be stretched horizontally but can go vertical as far as you want. That normally happens with quoting a post *or* editing an existing post *if* the page hasn't been reloaded recently. If you're editing your list you should reload the page first then select "Edit" and you'll get a box like the one before they messed up the site with the "New improved layout" junk and broke the editors.
The editor is changed in the "User CP" - "Options" section.

Hmm. Looks like somehow the source button got turned on but didn't turn itself off. Weird. I'm coming up with only a couple suggestions. You used to be able to revert to an older save point. Is that still an option? Or trying to delete all the extra code you don't need (). Typing that, I think that's the problem. All the < should be [, right? Maybe switching them would fix the problem?
