Forgot to mention there was a change with the vampires subset due to an earlier request. Just a head's up to those considering a purchase that haven't viewed the list since.

Directly to the checklist that one goes. That's a great link that really makes you appreciate his work.

And I am currently working on getting the checklist ready. Sometime over this weekend I'll post it with the current suggestions in bold so we can add/subtract as needed.

Reminder that it's a double feature alongside Konga for anyone that owns anything from the old MGM Midnite Movies DVD collection.

Since PIN is not available on any streaming services (there is a crud quality one on Youtube) I will make sure a good quality one is available.

And if someone has a hyperlink to share for Has the words "It" in the title that would be appreciated. IMDB apparently doesn't allow "It" as a keyword, or I'm doing something wrong.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Checklist looks awesome so far. I couldn't find a hyperlink for the "it" in the title but I started brainstorming and realized are we including any words that contain "it" or just the actual word "it" being used? such as these examples (some movie ideas I listed out so far for fun):

Spoiler:

It (2017 & 1990)
It Came From Outer Space
It! (1967)
It Comes At Night
It Follows
P"it"ch Black
Blair W"it"ch (2016, 1999, 2000 Book Of Shadows Sequel)
The Love W"it"ch
The W"it"ches (1990)
The Worst W"it"ch (1986)
The W"it"ches Of Eastwick
The W"it"ches (1967)
W"it"chboard 1-3
The W"it"ches (1966)
W"it"chtrap
Hansel & Gretel: W"it"ch Hunters
W"it"ching & Bitching
Don't Kill It
It's Alive (1974 and 2008)
It Waits
It's My Party & I'll Die If I Want To
St"it"ches
B"it"ten (2008)
Frostb"it"ten
Hab"it"
Ex" it" Human"it"y
Love At First B"it"e
The Inv"it"ation

I couldn't figure out a way around IMDb not allowing title queries of the word "it" so I just did a quick-and-dirty scan of the results of this basic query.* That netted a total of 35 titles, collected in this IMDb list.

I expected more, honestly, but it's still a fair number of entries, with a good number of them being well-known or at least not totally obscure. If anyone can think of other titles, I'm happy to add them -- for example, if a movie has an alternate title that isn't how IMDb primarily lists it, it wouldn't be included here. If we expand it in the way arw6040 suggests, that would add a lot more (think of all the movies with the word "with" in them, for example, in addition to all the "witches" and "bites"), so I'd probably need some help compiling those, but it could be done using the same query as above.

Personally, although the expansion does allow for more creative thinking, I'm inclined to stick with just the word "it" (and "it's") if people think there are enough titles there to qualify; it seems to me to be more in the spirit of the checklist item. But that's just my opinion; I'm not going to fight anyone about it.

*("At least 100 votes" seemed like a pretty low bar to meet, but it cut the number of entries from upwards of 60,000 down to a little under 10,000 -- CTRL-F'ing my way through 40 pages of 250-per-page titles didn't take me long at all, but I wasn't willing to do 6x that. )

The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is The Alien Dead, Fred Olen Ray's first movie, which was also released under the title It Fell from the Sky.

I agree with this; since this is part of the checklist, we have some choice as to whether we want to go with this particular item or not. There are checklist items with fewer qualifying titles.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Chad, you added this in the optional reading checklist item last year,

--- Read a horror comic book or graphic novel (insert title). OPTIONAL

and maybe it can become a permanent addition? I added the word 'horror', but I guess that's superfluous.

And maybe add, read a horror magazine?

Also, just a thought, but maybe instead of "recently deceased" being just an annual checklist item in the big list of complete 30, make it a separate full list in the area of cast and crew? That way, one would not have to open a separate link, and could more easily track multiple watches if they decide to try to watch one of each.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

On 'containing these Universal Monster characters' addition, is the intent that people especially watch a Universal Studios release for each character or would, for example, Jess Franco’s Dracula or Dracula 2000 count for Dracula? The ‘Universal Monsters’ terminology is cool but those films are so classic they’ve become archetypes so maybe keep that UM header as a nod to those original classics but changing the characters to generic representatives, i.e. ‘vampire,’ and deleting those from the other genre checklist field would clarify it more (?). Even the Universal Studios catalog has a lot of variety, the new 2017 Universal Studios 'Dark Universe' Mummy movie is much different than the 1932 classic. Alternatively, it might work to add 'Watch a Classic Universal Monsters' movie to the sub-genres permanently.

Isn't it a bit redundant to have Bill Paxton Don Calfa Martin Landau in both categories (select 10 actors and select recently deceased actors under the sub genre)?

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Some ideas....

Actors:

Brad Dourif (last used 2010)
Doug Bradley (last used 2011)
Kevin Bacon (7)
Jocelin Donahue (6)
Jennifer Tilly (9)

Don Calfa passed away in December. Should he be in the recently deceased section instead?

Directors:

Dario Argento (last used 2014)
Don Coscarelli (last used 2014)

Watch 3 films that you've never seen before that:

Stars a Barbara (Steele, Crampton, Hershey, Shelley)
Features music by Richard Band
Features a Disembodied / Possessed Hand

I suggest that the OHMC videos of DaveyJoe and Monko Kane (and others, know I'm forgetting someone) be eligible for counting under the shorts rules.

Alright, the current suggestions (from both threads) have been implemented. And thanks to arw6040 and alyxstarr for the "It" contributions.

Keep 'em coming!

I didn't make the original suggestion, but I assume they were also for films outside of Universal. But you're right. They're too similar in tone, so I just nixed it and left the others where they are. Added the 'Watch a Classic Universal Monsters Movie' alongside them.

I think I used an unfinished template from last year instead of the final product when copying/pasting. It's back.

This list looks good I'm definitely ok with sticking to the "it" & "it's" as I just looked into this list of words containing "it" in them (though scrabble eligible words only as pretty much all links showed up as that): http://www.wordfind.com/contains/it/ & it comes to hundreds of words which I'm ok if people vote to that (though I don't think making a larger IMDb list will work for that as too much work searching for every possible title with these words? or people will have to just see as they go if eligible). Your results also show there are more horror titles than I initially brainstormed/found in my brief search so far & agree with rbrown498 said as well. Just wasn't sure what the specifications were regarding it on the checklist so wanted to ask in general.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

I think someone pasted from the same list in 2014, because that one had a lot of directors. I would suggest: Tom Holland and/or Steve Miner as directors. I have the new BFI Fright Night blu this year so, I'm looking to give it a whirl.

Don Calfa passed away in December. Should he be in the recently deceased section instead?

Directors:

Dario Argento (last used 2014)
Don Coscarelli (last used 2014)

Watch 3 films that you've never seen before that:

Stars a Barbara (Steele, Crampton, Hershey, Shelley)
Features music by Richard Band
Features a Disembodied / Possessed Hand
It seems like one of the local theaters in town is slated to show the new Suspiria scan the first week of October. Pretty stoked!

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

On the subject of having "It" counted as its own word, or included as part of another word (witch, for example), I'd like to throw my vote toward having the word "It" count versus counting titles that have "it" in another word used in the title.

I feel that it would open it up way too much if we were able to have every title count with "it" somewhere in the spelling. It loses the challenge aspect if we do that, and becomes an incredibly easy checklist item otherwise.

Just noticed while looking over the checklist again so far it's Daniel Licht not Lint and Robert Bloch not Block.

^Fixed, and added the current crop of suggestions. Also added the two other categories I failed to carry over when copying/pasting from the wrong list - the chrono faceoff triple bill and the anniversary theme. Any others for the latter? It could use at least one more entry.
