The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread 2017 List thread will be here. The Details Challenge starts July 31st at 12:01 am local time. Challenge ends September 1st at dawn. Rules Movies/TV shows should be labeled Animation from either imdb.com or allmovie.com. Other labels don't matter as long as there is at least a Animation label from one of those sites. Action/Animation would be fine. This is the challenge where any and all types of animation is welcome, computer, hand drawn, puppetry, stop motion, etc. The entire movie/show does not need to be completely animated. Something like Roger Rabbit or a Ray Harryhausen film would generally be allowed. If anyone has a problem with something someone watches or just wants an opinion on if it's animation or not, ask here. Animation documentaries are allowed but not DVD featurettes/interviews that are just fluff promo pieces. As with the other challenges, the lists must be numbered or it won't count. Watching the movie/show with the commentary can counted as unique items. Watching multiple versions(theatrical and director's cut) of the same movie/show will also count. Lists Since the general consensus seems to be for the easy counting method we will go with that. However, it is not required, so if you wish to count another way, feel free, as I will not be doing stats. How to win Names will be randomly selected from http://www.random.org/lists/ The top people, one prize per person, get something. Unfortunately, prizes can only go to people who live in the States. Sponsors: GoldenWheels and HamiltonBooks! Prize Pack 1: 1. Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Tales: Vintage Tales from Disney's Most Popular Animated Short Films 2. They are: Akira, Fantastic Planet, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Watership Down, Jason And The Argonauts, King Kong, Robocop. Also, there is animation in the By Brakhage and Science is Fiction box sets. Last year's discussion thread here. Last year's list thread here. |
Re: The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for the checklist!
Also, I have not kept up on new Criterion releases. Any new ones that would qualify for the crossover at the end of the month? |
Re: The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
My plan is to finish off Venture Bros. Thanks for running this again L.

Re: The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
For Christmas, I got a 50 film pack of family films. Among the movies are also various Lil Audrey and Popeye cartoons. Looking forward to watching them. I also plan to work on GI Joe, plus work on cartoons I started this month. Watched an episode of Tekkaman Blade earlier tonight. Looking forward to revisiting my Schoolhouse Rock set too.

Re: The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
I have been using the Sci-Fi challenge as a good warm-up for this challenge. My backlog of animation is endless, so now all I need to do is think of is a plan for what I want to focus on or if I want to just do things scattershot.

How about adding Filmation to the 'Watch works from 5 different studios:'. Otherwise, I'd say the checklist is pretty solid.

Yeah, this is probably what I will end up doing. I think my stated goal this month in the sci-fi challenge was watching a bunch of various Gundam series episodes on blu-ray. I have watched 2 episodes so far. :D

Not new, but from past Challenge threads I see that there is animation in the By Brakhage and Science is Fiction boxsets. Also, is The Plague Dogs officially announced as a forthcoming Criterion?

Re: The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
I have confirmation from GoldenWheels that he and Hamiltonbooks will sponsor our challenge this month. I tried something new for July's Sci-Fi/Fantasy month (or new to me, at least!) and requested suggestions from you guys for prizes. In return, you'll get an extra entry into the prize drawing. Figured I'd give that a shot again for this challenge, so please suggest away!
Also, added Filmation to the challenge list. Any other suggestions? |

I was browsing my Disney Movie Rewards and saw I had enough points for a couple DVDs, and one of the ones I have coming is eligible for this Challenge, Season 2 of the original Muppet Show.

Re: The 8th Annual Animation Challenge Discussion Thread!
The challenge is coming up quickly. If no one has any other additions/changes, I'm calling the checklist official. Also, not getting any feedback about prizes, so if I don't get any suggestions in the next day or so, I'll go ahead and just pick some out.
