Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order
Return period is 14 days after delivery (possibly 30 days for members though I've never tried)
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept
The long standing Free 60 day Trial Offer was discontinued in late May 2016

Thanks for the info. I never knew it was a biographical film. I always thought it was a fictional adventure.

Sorry, missed that somehow. All Westerns or films that portray past events, fictional or "true" are eligible.

I kicked off my Challenge with the 'Mig Alley' episode of Dogfights. It was all about the aerial battles between the F-86 Sabers and the Mig 15s in the Korean War.

Yeah, keep in mind the spirit of the challenge. All movies that don't take place in the future take place in the past, but we're talking historical rather than just previous.

If you're doing the Western checklist, HIDALGO would count in the category of "Export Western", as it does not take place in America.

I'm still debating on whether I want to do the checklist or not, but that's good to know. I never would have thought of that. Would something like Walker Texas Ranger be considered a neo western?

No, I don't think so. It should have some past element to it, really. For instance. I don't think The Misfits fits even though it's about cowboys.

Ok. I've always wondered, but never knew. Glad that is cleared up. And I never even heard of The Misfits.

If anyone is looking for a good show to watch for the Challenge, the Starz series Spartacus is available to watch on Netflix. I've seen a few episodes in the past on Encore, and enjoyed them. But YMMV.

Misfits is great. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe's last film, written by Arthur Miller.

I'll have to look for it sometime. Not this month though, unless I watch it and don't count it. I think I know what you mean. I can't remember the name, but I watched a movie for the Holiday Challenge on Pixl, that was set in the west, but just be it was about cowboys, it wouldn't be a neo western. I don't remember the name though.

I just brought home my dad's Laserdisc player and a stack of about 10 LD movies. One of them is Quigley Down Under. I'm going to watch that, as well as my two HDDVD's of Clint Eastwood's pair of WW2 movies, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima. How's that for some throwback media choices? LOL!

I've got insomnia tonight, so I decided to take advantage of that by working on the Challenge. I put in Disc 2 of Dogfights, Season One, and just finished the episode in which the 'Flying Tigers' were discussed.

Re: Eighth Annual Historical Films Challenge June 1-30 2017

I started out yesterday with two films that also counted for my MYOC list. Zulu (1964), about the Battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879, and One of Our Aircraft Is Missing (1942), about a British bomber crew being helped by Dutch partisans escape the Nazis after being forced to bail out. I enjoyed both of them but I liked Zulu a bit better. It's been a while since I've seen a film on such an epic scale and that was fun. One of Our Aircraft Is Missing was well made and pretty suspenseful in spots.

Now it's back to the MYOC for a couple more days.

I've watched a number of episodes, but it's so way over the top (blood, sex) that I can't watch too much of it at a time.

That's understandable. I've never binged it myself. Makes sense though, since it's a premium cable show.

I'm fine with sex and violence on premium cable--in fact, I expect it! But Spartacus
Spoiler:
always turns it into a music video!

I just finished an episode of The Twilight Zone, on MeTV, that counts for this Challenge under the time travel rule. It's called 'Back There', and it stars Russell Johnson, from Gilligan's Island, as a man who gets thrown back in time to the day of Lincoln's assassination.

I started watching the new season of House of Cards on Netflix. Basically a drama that one can argue is loosely based on the clintons.

Would house of cards qualify? i was guessing No

After reading the plotline on Wikipedia, it sounds interesting but not historical.

Curious, because I want to break open my Back to the Future set, does that count by any chance?

Back to the Future would count.
