If a category is listed as "Optional", it does not need to be filled to "complete" the checklist. There are 10 free spots you may apply to non-Optional categories. The following lists are Automatic Safe lists. They are not definitive and there might be exceptions therein, especially concerning Distributors. Generally, the presence of those on the lists in an actual creative capacity (that is, more than just a cameo or bit part. For instance, Bruce Campbell appearing in Spider-Man does not make Spider-Man safe) is enough to make a film safe. Got more? Post them and I'll update the list. Obviously, films not including these participants are safe, too. Update: I added several new names to the actors list. Some of these actors appeared in actual big budget Hollywood fare, but most of their career was in B-Movies, then obviously discard the Big Hollywood movies and just watch the B's (For example, William Shatner. Ignore Star Trek movies but anything else is fair game. Or Patrick Swazye. Ghost is probably not right, but most of his other films were B-Movies).

Looking for something good to watch with daughter. She only likes the non-movie parts of MST3K.
Rookie of the Year?
Or maybe
Hotel Transylvania (is Sandler on the safe lift yet?)
Also something interesting about The Erotic Adventures of Candy and Rookie of the year being on the same list.
Update: daughter bored by Apocylypse Mercinaries

Does she like movies about gladiators?
Sandler's made $2B at the box office. Got to find a movie of his that qualifies on its own merits.
Not sure how Rookie of the Year fits.

This may not be the best challenge for young daughters.
Thoughts about the Schwarzenegger vehicle The Last Stand? It has a B-movie feel to it, and there's some carsploitation to it, but I'm not sure if that's enough to qualify.
EDIT: I think this has enough carsploitation to qualify even if it weren't a B-grade cheesy action flick.

After Arnold's cheesy action movie yesterday, I went back to stuff from that era, with Under Siege and its sequel. I like the "Die Hard on a Ship" angle, and I used to watch a fair number of Seagal movies, but this is pretty corny stuff, especially Seagal's acting. I was trying to remember which went-on-to-be-notable actress played his niece in the sequel then eventually recognized Katherine Heigl, who was in an earlier horrible movie for this challenge.

I'm sure we've discussed this in past challenges, but anyone have an idea of what Criterion film would qualify?

Picked a sweet choice for my stoner film this morning. Went well with my bowl of Rice Krispies. There's even a really funny sequence at a '70s drive-in. Cheech and Chong work well in animated form, and it's like a "smarter" Beavis and Butthead comedy...roll one up and enjoy the hit.

John Waters' Multiple Maniacs just came out this year on Criterion Blu-ray, and Pink Flamingos and Polyester were on Criterion Laserdisc.
I'd accept
And God Created Woman
Antichrist
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
The Blob
The Brood
La Cage Aux Folles
Carnival of Souls
Dazed and Confused
Easy Rider
Eating Raoul
Eraserhead
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The Harder they Come
Harold and Maude
The Honeymoon Killers
I am Curious
Jubilee
The Last Temptation of Christ (When I saw it in the theater we had a bomb threat)
Man Who Fell to Earth (Rock star actor-yeah he had a couple legit films, but it's Bowie, dammit)
Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (Just because of Bowie)
Mulholland Drive
Naked Lunch
Quadrophenia
Repo Man
Scanners
This is Spinal Tap
Valley of the Dolls
Videodrome
There's probably others I just am not familiar with enough. A few on my list are borderline, but I think they're OK.

Yesterday, was another fun Ex-Fest. It is an all afternoon/night exploitation fest where they play 7 unannounced movies in 35mm with only hints for the genre given. This year's lineup was good, all of which were first time watches for me.
First, we started with Dynasty in 3D. It was a lot of fun and it was definitely a good experience seeing an old kung fu movie in 3D.
Next up was Death Rides a Horse which is a spaghetti western revenge film with Lee Van Cleef and John Phillip Law. I loved this one and it was probably my favorite of the day.
This was followed up by The New Barbarians which was a ridiculous post-apocalyptic movie directed by Enzo Castellari. I had always meant to see this one, so it was great to have it be a first time watch with an energized crowd as this one took some unexpected turns that amazed us all.
Next up was Combat Cops which seems to also be known as The Get-Man and The Zebra Killer, which seems like the most appropriate title. This was a solid Blaxploitation film with good performances from Austin Stoker and the creepy villain character.
Next up was Street Asylum which was a crime movie with sci-fi elements about Wings Hauser joining a special elite squad of cops who all go crazy in their pursuit of cleaning up the streets due to a mind-controlling sort of device used to make them embrace animal instincts and develop ESP-like abilities. Wings is always great in this sort of over-the-top type role.
Next was Love Me Deadly which was the only one I didn't enjoy very much. In the midst of a movie marathon, this was the one that made me start to feel very tired as it was very slow moving. I guess people being into Necrophilia gives me one of my sexploitation spots that I now won't have to use a free spot on the checklist for though.
The final film of the night was Pink Flamingos with a surprise appearance by John Waters to introduce the film along with actress Elizabeth Coffey. That was a great surprise. If you are going to have to see Pink Flamingos for the first time, doing so with a Waters introduction and a pumped-up crowd is a good way to do so.
Hopefully next year the Ex-Fest will fall in April again since sometimes it ends up in early May as it is as good a capstone for the challenge as possible.

My list is done!
Beat my previous record from a few years back. Final total was 52. ALL FIRST TIME WATCHES! Should have had a few more this past weekend, but I did manage to stick to at least one film per day for the entire month. Also managed to write brief reviews and scored ratings for every single title, plus my regular T&A meter. List is right here: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/13041247-post16.html
Typically, I watch a lot of this stuff anyway, especially during the summer. In May, the actual drive-in around here opens and I hit it up about 2 - 3 times during the season and sometimes more. Great double and triple bills at a good price. I tend to make an extra effort if there is something sleazy or R-rated plays there.
Also, I spend a lot of time at my folk's summer cottage with my dad. I bring ONLY exploitation sleaze, horror, action movie and comedies...so it's like a summer edition of this event that doesn't end early fall typically.
Lastly, I have some early recommendations for next year's SAFE LIST. I might be away and very busy working in China, so I don't know what my participation level will be, but I'll try my best. Here are some names I'd like to nominate for the SAFE LIST 2018 EDITION.
SAFE LIST RECOMMENDATIONS
ACTORS
Bai Ling
C. Thomas Howell
Erik Estrada
Eric Roberts
Mischa Barton
Michael Madsen
Paris Hilton
Tia Carrere
DIRECTORS
Donald W. Thompson
Joey Travolta
Ulli Lommel

My list is also complete. I ended up with 48 entries. One of those was an episode of a 1915 serial (which I'm planning to finish in May), and ten were episodes of the new MST3K, a series I'm obviously enjoying quite a bit! I had fun this month and watched some stuff that wasn't on my radar before, including four martial arts films made in the United States.

Goal of 150 movies was met. Thanks for hosting this again, C-God! I'll finalize my list later on this week.
Yup. Footage missing on my viewing as well. I already did like that movie enough, but once the karate-chopping started, I loved it even more!

Re: 8th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation Challenge April 1-April 30, 2017
My list is complete with 59 total viewings and 55 first time views. I got off to a really slow start due to work and life stuff in the first half of the month but I managed to pick up the pace in the second half getting close to my typical 60 - 61.
A big thanks to caligulathegod for providing the chance to wallow in weirdness and trash for a month and thanks also to the former Mr. Peepers for the motivation to watch Society which was a blind buy for me during one of the Arrow sales. It was probably my favorite movie of the challenge. I agree with everything he said, especially the part about going in cold. DO NOT watch the trailer first, it gives away way too much.

Never saw Society before and I heard about it when it was released but skipped it based on the vague descriptions I saw. Then I recently saw who directed it and since I like his stuff, I ordered it this week.
I did not see that ending coming. If anyone hasn't seen it but likes Re-Animator, Basket Case, and '80s style of horror, just watch it and don't spoil it by looking up what it's about or watching a trailer.
It's not a perfect movie but it was nice to watch something that turned into something I wasn't expecting at all, compared with movies that had similar plot topics. I'd also definitely rent it first instead of a blind buy. I'd say it's worth at least one watch.
