Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule

But, like any record, it's gotta' go some day.
My OCD just took over again. I honestly planned to slow down after being off work the first week and thinking that I'd get most of my viewing in that week.

Personal neurotic logic spoilered
Spoiler:
But then I looked through all the lists and saw that I was close to TheBigDave in numbers, and decided to go for it. I liked the silly fact of being the first back-to-back winner, and honestly planned to semi-retire and never do that pace again. Then I realized that if I "lost", I'd worry in 2017 that someone would tie my "record" and I'd have to go crazy again in 2018 to make sure they didn't beat it. But if I "won" three in a row, then I could retire for at least two years, only having to go full-tilt again if someone won two years in a row. I know I know, completely unhealthy thinking.

Dave drove me crazy with not numbering his list, I spent minutes almost every day counting his list to make sure I was ahead or close. I love your unique grouping and format Dave, but darn if that not numbering made me often curse your name.

Then with about ten days to go I noticed that MysterioMan appeared to be ahead of me. I stupidly decided that second place would make the entire month not worth it, and kicked my viewing up a notch. I went from sleeping maybe 4 hours a day to averaging two hours a day that last third of the month. Then the last day or two I thought that maybe I was within reach of the legendary 333, and just gave up everything except viewing.

I probably burned out my XboxOne and ipad last month. Forces converged to make it possible to do nothing else, a forgiving wife, viewing-capable job, and only working 12 days all month were key. I did the math and averaged almost 14 hours a day of viewing.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

I definitely want to echo the praises for an amazing challenge. Well organized from the very beginning and it made for an enjoyable few months. I also want to give thanks for all of the movies contributed as prizes. We definitely have an abundance of riches in that department.

I hit the challenge of 100 movies, finished the checklist with no duplicates and some of the early optional categories that were suggested but eventually removed, finished the subset films and theme nights. I hit 108 movies which I believe is my personal high but because of the subset films chosen (they were obviously good ones) I only had 81 first-time views. I was hoping for more but it's hard to get first-time views when people are choosing good subset films. I did break 160 hours which I believe is also a personal best.

Overall, an unbeatable challenge in my opinion. I especially loved the addition challenge of the specific commentaries and the first-time views portion of the challenge. Great additions and a challenge for the ages!

Thanks to Chad for hosting again. I didn't get to participate this year but I did record what I watched, so I did enjoy it.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

Finalized my list (I think) and trying to decide on who else's list I like the best.

Here is my tally/highlights...

Standouts: House of Last Things, Darling, [Rec] 2, Horsehead, Pod, Deathgasm, Inner Demons, Microwave Massacre, The Hallow, Ava's Possessions, Blood Punch, Slugs, Deathgasm, What We Become
Duds: House of Seven Corpses, Zombie Nightmare, Contracted 2, The Encounter, Sinister 2, Open Water, Haunt, Ouija, Pulse/Kairo, 2001 Maniacs, Girl in the Photographs, Cherry Tree, Out of the Dark (1995)

Memorable [Not Necessarily Good] Films
Nightmare Inducing: I Am a Ghost (this is one film that had me wake up remembering it's strange imagery despite it's stupid twist)
Hypnotic Theme Song: The Loved Ones (it's song is still stuck in my head)
Thought Provoker: The Hallows (has a twisted plot device), Horsehead (still not 100% on what it's about)
Cheesy B-Movie Standouts: The Bees, Demonoid
Original/Novel: House of Last Things
Most Improvement in a Sequel: Ouija: Origin of Evil

Total Watched: 179 films - 271 hours, 52 minutes (91.13 minute film average)
First Time Viewing = 125 total, 69.8% of viewings
Theme Related Movies = 134 theme films, 74.8% of viewings

I don't get to participate as much as I'd like but I just want to thank everybody, and Chad in particular, for another great challenge.

I ended up re-watching a lot of old favorites, like Kwaidan, The Innocents, some Universal classics, and a few Mario Bava flicks. I did manage to get in a first time viewing of David Cronenberg's The Brood, which I freaking loved.

I also watched WolfCop on Netflix Instant, which I had put off seeing after hearing mixed to negative reviews. It ended up being a lot of fun though, I'm glad I gave it a chance.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

My list is finished. I'll be back next year for Lucky 13, but I'll only get through 13 movies if this year is any indication. I think my downfall was too many bad/mediocre movies and not enough good ones, which is partly my fault. I had planned to give some of my normal standbys a break this year to revisit some other movies that I couldn't remember watching and to hunt for "diamonds in the rough." I just wound up with lumps of coal, though. Killed any momentum I had at the beginning of the challenge.

My list is complete. Total 12 views, 6 first time views, 6 previously seen views. So it all evened out at least, since I wanted to get some first time views in. But I know there are lots of duds out there. So I'll try to mix things up more than likely since it worked out this year.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

I had my 2nd best year this year with 54 views, 47 of which were FTV. I watched 16 that I had bought for this month and watch 16 more from my own collection, which took 13 off of my unwatched pile. I used 1 wild card (for Pan's Labyrinth) and streamed 12 views (tried to get through season 2 of Scream but lost interest). I saw 5 horror movies in a theater (thanks to the tail end of the Calgary International Film Festival... go see Lavender when you get the chance). I managed to watch 33 films on their theme day and 21 of the subset films, 16 of which were on the day of.
Unfortunately, as always, I had a number more I wanted to watch, and quite a few more that I had bought to watch (why does that always happen??).
It was a good month (challenge-wise anyway) and I had a good time. I tried to comment more than usual but probably didn't do much better. I did post a bit in the subset review sections though.
Anyway, thanks again to Chad for his unreal efforts, and thanks to the sponsors even though I am not eligible to win. Hope to see you all again next year... On to comedies...

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

We ought to keep this thread going year round just to list various horror movies we discover and wish to discuss. I know many may not pay any more attention to it but it could be a god way to find out about various genre movies.

For instance, I decided to go through all the extras after the challenge for Arrow's release of Contamination (1980). I had never viewed the film before this past month and didn't really care for it. Was ready to sell the movie and move on but then I listened to the fan commentary by Fangoria editor Chris Alexander and I suddenly saw the movie in a completely different light. Now I am not so sure I want to sell it anymore and may keep the dang thing.

The power of a good commentary!

The one that I most dislike about doing the challenges (except for the Criterion Challenge) is that I miss watching commentaries and other extras because I am trying to watch as many movies as possible. As you say, a good commentary can completely transform the viewing experience.

I have decided to watch and read the Star Trek stories in chronological order, and I intend to listen to any commentaries available for the episodes or movies and watch all of the extras also. It's a nice switch from the challenge mindset I've been in since July.

I watched it some months ago, and agree it is a pretty good commentary.

For the checklist, I was really wanting to watch Crimson Peak with the director commentary, but decided to go with the Tim Lucas commentary on Black Sunday instead. I didn't' find it as informative as the Universal Monster commentaries, but made the decision based on time available.

I look forward to searching out more commentaries for next challenge and I may very well begin with Crimson Peak's. I have heard (read) at least one of Del Toro's commentaries in the past and I really enjoyed it.

Don't all challenges allow you to count a second watch with commentary? Or are you just trying to watch as many DIFFERENT movies as possible?

That pretty much sounds like a year long effort... you should be done just about in time for next year's Horror Challenge.

I think reading all of Star Trek would be at least a 20 year project.

That is quite hilarious!

Couldn't get here any sooner due to some family emergency night of the 31st, but wanted to mention that watching my VHS of The Midnight Hour has become a favorite way to celebrate Halloween. I like those Anchor Bay collector editions in the VHS clamshells. They even have pictures and sometimes wording on the inside of the sleeve. Wish I had the DVD, but the VHS is quite nice. Anyway, I enjoy the heck out of that movie.

2016 FINAL NUMBER: 22.5 which makes this my 6th best year... again

FTV (movies only): 6

Decades Viewed (movies only):
1950s: 1
1970s: 3
1980s: 7
1990s: 2
2010s: 11

Formats Viewed (all viewing):
TV/DVR/OnDemand: 17
DVD: 6
Blu-ray: 3
Live Event: 3
iPad (transferred from DVD): 3
Theater: 1

Checklist Items Completed: 45
Theme Nights Completed: 4
Subset Films Viewed: 0

Random Stats:
Movies/Shows Aborted Because People In The Room Wouldn't Shut The Hell Up: 1 (Tales of Halloween)

Being that October is usually the busiest for me at work and with family things, I never expect to hit high numbers. And with the Cubs in the World Series, there was no way I was going even begin to break any records. In the end, it was WELL worth it...

This was my 11th challenge.

My list is complete. My first time views are noted, as well as which movies were my theme movies, since I completed the theme list, minus the optional comedy crossover theme. I didn't total my formats because I didn't have the motivation this year, but I'm not worried about having them included in the stats.

Yes, you can count the commentaries as a second watch but you are right, I prefer to watch as many different movies as possible.

Just got word that Synapse has sent us 5 copies of Dario Argento's Tenebrae on Blu-ray.
