Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule

Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order
Return period is 14 days after delivery (possibly 30 days for members though I've never tried)
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept

2. frankenstein monster - boris karloff
3. dracula - chris lee
4. van helsing - peter cushing
5. the mummy - boris karloff
6. the wolfman - oliver reed
7. phantom of the opera - lon chaney sr
8. hunchback - charles laughton
9. invisible man - claude rains
10. open - cant think of another one so fill in if you think of something
The only changes I'd make are:

3. Dracula - Bela Lugosi
6. The Wolf Man - Lon Chaney, Jr.

And I've never given any thought at all to #4 - Van Helsing so Cushing is OK.

10. Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde - Fredric March

Microwave Massacre is a lot more fun that I ever expected a movie featuring an oversized microwave to be.

I'm usually on the lookout for the most unconventional Dracula; while I respect the epic mythos and contribution to the genre adaptations of Bram Stoker's Dracula have worn thin with me. For example, I watched Hammer Horror's Frankenstein Created Woman earlier today which features a female Frankenstein
Spoiler:
with a male brain
, which I think is one of the most subversive and interesting spins on The Monster (Bride of Frankenstein itself seems revolutionary for introducing a female version of Monster). However, with Dracula it rarely seems to deviate from cold eyes and cape when I'd expect that could be a lot more done with the creature.

If I see another movie that ends with "you/it has multiple personalities!" I think I'm going to kill myself, lamest twist ever.

Next time, the multiple personality will turn out to be a dead person.

It's doubly annoying when this is discovered in some awkward implausible manner like the hero stumbling on detailed psychiatric records that are just there, a friend so happens to know the elaborate back story, and especially when searching the internet provides some pivotal explanation (last time I looked up evil clowns I was not so lucky at finding these sort of details, just odd porn). In the end the 'explanations' are more implausible than the fiend was to begin with and just offer some cop out ending (get the skull of apache warchief Mangas Coloradas to his tribal resting place). I love movies with lore and mythos but it's got to be well staged and not tacked on or cartoonish (Lovecraft horror is especially good at this).
I disagree, I love knowing me some back story. Something my brain can sink it's teeth into later after I am done watching the movie. But it does sound like you would really like the movie It Follows.

There is definitely a ton of exposition in Tremors. I mean the geologist is pretty much all exposition and then like 3 seconds of love interest.

Or if you're watching an early Wes Craven movie, then the monster is defeated until the monster jumps out again at the very end.

Microsoft has Insidious as a 31-cent rental, so I watched it. Not a big fan of possession movies, but Rose Byrne is very attractive. When I hear her name, I always expect Rose McGowan, for some reason.

I'm finally jumping into Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1 on DVD - holy mother of god! - the surround sound is jaw dropping (i.e, really really LOUD).

Krampus (2015) - Enjoyed this even more than when I saw it last year in the theater. I could see it becoming a xmas staple for me. I look forward to the announced sequel.

Southbound (2015) - Interesting stories but the lack of cohesion hurt the film in my opinion. It is still worth seeing just so you can make your own interpretation on what is going on. Twin Peaks meets horror in a way. The hospital scene is brutal in my opinion.

However, the first Halloween movie was such a smash hit that they rushed a sequel into production with the same characters, so "Halloween" became synonymous with Michael Myers.

Halloween III was an attempt to get back to the original concept, but it just ended up disappointing the audience because it had nothing to do with the first 2 films. IMO III is an 80s classic.
Maybe Tales of Halloween or something. But after making 2 successful slasher films with the name Halloween, everyone should expect Michael. At least tell people it isn't Michael, which I don't think they did. Or, very least, tie Michael into the film. That's not how one creates a brand lol.

Even the lesser ones were at least interesting, and the feature has a great look and feel overall.
You might be the only one that enjoyed Smith's take lol. Ugh it was hard to watch at times. As was Mother's Day. I think they could have done a better job with Easter, but it was interested. It was an interesting film, though.

There was a loooong period of time where I wouldn't bother with any film if it were a anthology. I can count on one hand those I've liked enough to rewatch and even those have only a segment or two I find worth a revisit.
Sounds like the shit that was ABC's of Death. Just a bunch of trash thrown at the wall to see which one gets the better reaction. Can't believe it got a sequel. Long gone are the days of something like Creepshow which is still amazing to this day.

Little note, don't be shocked to see a different leading woman in the sequels Don't remember the reason why, though, but kind of torn on it. Thought she did a good job, but I do like seeing Harris.

I introduced a friend to Black Sabbath last night. He really enjoyed it. I still have yet to watch the Italian version, though. I just can't bring myself to do it knowing I would be missing Karloff's voice. I want an ultimate edit that retains the changes in the Italian version but keeps Karloff's parts in English. I'd be very content with that.
With Black Friday just a month away, I can't pull the trigger on these newer titles knowing it will be a lot cheaper in a month. And what is the difference in the Italian and American versions. Completely forgot.

Watching Halloween 4 my question is when did Jamie Lee's character have a baby, where is baby daddy/what happened to him, and how can Danielle Harris see Michael in her dreams/visions with no idea who he is??? People pissed on Zombie's Halloween, especially with how Laurie can see her real mother in Part 2, but it seems like he took that from this movie.

For those that have followed the Halloween series, why does Jamie's adoptive sister stay with Jamie during Halloween 5 after Jamie killed her mother at the end of Part 4? And why does she tell Jamie that mom and dad send their well wishes when mom should be dead, right???

True... I guess what I meant to say is that they don't resolve the issue. It's left with only some speculation.

Although not entirely original and quite predictable, this is an effectively unsettling horror. The editing and the juxtaposition of the two timelines is deftly executed. Certainly one that will stick with you for a little while after the credits roll.

28. Diabolique* (Henri-Georges Clouzot / 1955) ★★★★
I would not classify this as horror. Almost a masterpiece (may very well become one upon a second viewing). Quick, clever, enthralling, everything one could ask of a movie.
I personally don't understand the praise that Oculus gets. It simply did nothing for me. On the other hand I think you will find that multiple viewings of Diabolique absolutely will solidify it as a masterpiece for you. That is a brilliant film.

I can't imagine the pain I just endured with today's theme movie. I just finished a first time view of Cloverfield, on Amazon Prime. I knew it was found footage going into the movie, but being a movie about a giant monster attack, I was expecting more, well, giant monster. Instead I got emo footage of tween drama for most of the movie. I know he wanted to show them trying to survive for posterity, but could we please get more than a few minutes of the monster?

Cheers again to The Man With Golden Douhinshi for chasing down and posting all the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards ballots for today's theme!

...Even if it did lure me into re-watching Excision, which didn't seem to hold up as well as the first time I saw it.

Goodnight Mommy (2014) - Nice, eerie atmosphere but with a
Spoiler:
predictable twist you can see right off from a mile away
and the ending telegraphed way too early. If you watch horror regularly, you have seen this before. It almost seems like a remake of a movie but one I can't remember.

A lot of people compared it to
Spoiler:
the Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters.

Spoiler:
I literally predicted the "twist" about 30 seconds into the film.
