Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule

Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order

This little flick from 1983 called Frightmare (picture Vincent Price in an 80s slasher) was better then expected:

1983's Microwave Massacre...now this looks like it's going to be rough.

Ok, Microwave Massacre has three never-befores in all my years of horror flick watching:

Never have I seen a prostitute turned into a giant sandwich, a dinner roll used as a murder weapon or a vibrator as a gardening tool.

You know, if the 80s cinema taught us anything it's you really only need a couple of horny young people, a sharp thing and a forest to make a movie.

Randomly picked a film from 2007 called Murder Party for today's Axe theme. Had a vague recollection of it and think it may have been a subset pick a couple years ago. It all came back to me as I watched it, great film. Excited to see that the same director has a film coming up in our subset later this month, Green Room.

Malatesta's Carnival of Blood was one extremely bizarre and mind-bending oddity. It felt like some weird fusion between Raw Meat, I Drink Your Blood and Carnival of Souls. Seeing cannibalistic ghouls in a theater watching The Cabinet of Dr. Caligula and other horror classics of yesteryear was an experience. For whatever reason the gut-munching scenes were taken out and not integrated back in, but can be viewed in the supplemental material.

The Neon Dead was a surprisingly good time for a microbudget film (from an Indiegogo campaign). Likeable characters and the impressive glowing neon and stop motion effects is what sold me. Felt like it was straight out of the 80's.

Dracula Untold (2014) is a visually interesting film but lacking in story. It somewhat succeeds in giving us the story of Dracula's creation but is it a story we truly needed? Probably not, and that's part of the problem. It also tries to make Dracula a somewhat sympathetic character, which he truly isn't. Tortured, possibly, but most of the Dracula tales seemingly show a figure who's quite at ease with what he is and has no remorse. Attempting to remake Dracula in that more sympathetic light just doesn't work, at least for me. Then there's the sequel teasing ending in a film we for which we one know will likely never be made. Still... it *is* better than some Dracula films even though it's a somewhat empty attempt.

I watched the 2015 film The Editor tonight. I really liked it. The move simultaneously poked fun and paid respects to the Italian Giallo genre. lots of cameos - udo kier, the little guy from human centipede. great twist ending

I watched this when it came out in theaters and I own a copy now. I really enjoyed it. Sometimes I like it when they make you feel sympathetic for the "bad guy". I think that's one of the main reasons that I like Rob Zombie's version of Halloween. You get a little more insight in to what might've been going on with the character.

I watched that the other day too. I think my mind was most blown at one point towards the end of the movie when I realized the reason the main guy sounded familiar was because he was Frosty the Snowman's voice. I enjoyed Microwave Massacre a good bit though.

Congrats to the winners of the prizes!

Manos: The Hands of Fate is everything you thought it would be, which is the worst thing anyone could possibly say about it. Get drunk first, it might help.

If you like slow burn movies, I'd suggest The Invitation or Honeymoon on Netflix. Real slow burners where the tension picks up nicely.

I always get a mental image of Frosty microwaving his wife on every viewing after learning that. Also doesn't help that my other childhood favorite Paul "Pee Wee" Reubens makes a brief cameo.

The RiffTrax Live version is streaming on Prime. Might have to check that one out, because I don't think I could sit through the actual movie again.

This evening I showed a couple of friends Horror Express which is a film I love. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing are two of my favorite actors, especially their work with Hammer. This film can be silly at points, but it's got a claustrophobic atmosphere and some fun minor characters, including a Rasputin-type monk, a beautiful spy, and a coded lesbian. My friends enjoyed it quite a bit and then we got into a discussion about why we watch horror movies. All-in-all, a good time!

After sitting on my shelf for 10-ish years, I finally plugged in MPD-Psycho and watched the first two episodes of the six episode mini-series. That's quite a dense, twisted and disturbing tale Takashi Miike is weaving.

Any good horror anime series on either Netflix or Amazon Prime? I've already seen Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Black Butler.

High School of the Dead is good. It's about high school students trying to survive a zombie outbreak.

https://www.amazon.com/High-School-D...dp/B0051PIAQA/

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is supposed to be good. I haven't seen it yet. But it gets good reviews. I hear it's similar to Attack on Titan, but with zombies.

Soul Eater is an awesome show. It's not scary horror. More like a Halloween Town type of anime.

I'm confused by today's theme. Is it abandoned places and caves? Or is the "history" of the cave what makes it abandoned? (Today's subset pick: The Descent)

For today's theme, I watched a decent first time view. I finally took the chance to see Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers. While it wasn't the greatest of the Halloween movies, I did enjoy it.

Ah, I'm sure you got it worse than us. Still out here. Luckily we have hot showers and internet at work. The outage map said that the crew came out on site, but the cause is supposedly still unknown. Not sure why. It looks like the problem is the tree that is on top of the power lines, putting them onto people's driveways. But maybe there is something else, too. They haven't come back lol

Can a movie be considered slow when it clocks in at only 67 minutes? Anyway, for some reason I still kinda liked it but can't explain it. No nudity and very little gore but the ending is a little unnerving. Lots of odd things happen throughout that are never explained but I think it works out better that way. The acting and dialogue is laughable and the score is slightly obnoxious. Even with all this, the movie still has some kind of strange charm. Weird.
The actress did a great job imho. Felt an icky unease for most of the film due to her affect.

I'll have to add this one to my "holiday" horror shelf.
