First, I only read parts of some of the threads from the first three Challenges. With my attention span, it'd take me a year to read all the OHMC threads. And second, with my memory, I'm not going to remember this post after Corridors of Blood here, let alone days later.

I guess I've always figured the main challenge rules state what a film has to be to be eligible as an entry. So, those rules should follow through to the optional items. Where it could get murky is the situation brought up earlier. What if you watch enough shorts to qualify for one entry? I would be more inclined to allow that.

First, you just went back and reread the threads so the odds are that you would remember what was stated. Second, it is after dusk here in Indy and that means I can start on watching my movies. So, my interest has waned somewhat. I think I have just always assumed that we mean a movie that qualifies as one as described in the rules as a full length movie because the subset picks have always qualified that way and the movies listed as suggestions for the theme nights have always qualified that way (as far as I can remember). My mind must have filled in some blanks so it would be good to be clear.

I am now going to watch Corridors of Blood to start this baby off. I am very excited to finally get going!
I got distracted while I was typing out my reply. Otherwise, I would have quoted you. I agree with your tykes assessment.

And on an unrelated note, the challenge started where I am 7 minutes ago. Time to take the dog for a quick walk and start thinking about what to watch before people arrive.

May all your challenges start with a bang ... or a stab ... or maybe a hard hit with a blunt object.

My challenge started with a stomp. I'm not doing the subsets, so I started with my own theme movie for the night. One of my favorite movies of all time, Godzilla, King Of The Monsters.

Horror is her least favorite genre, and she's not a huge film fan to start. She has learned to tolerate Challenges, and even joins in a teeny bit most months. This one, I try to be nice and limit our shared viewings to horror comedies or Halloween episodes and such. One year, as a birthday gift, she watched ten (?) movies of my choice in October. I took advantage and picked some doozies, probably went too far.

How about you? Or anyone else, you have Challenge-compliant spouses?

Good choice. I found a cool kaiju podcast yesterday, and it almost inspired me to do a complete Godzilla marathon this month, but I think I decided to wait until July.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

So I put up the Facebook post, which I guess is the official official kickoff.

I also just spent a good two hours trying to get a recliner I improperly measured through my front door that required the assistance of three other people. A miracle was achieved today. If it feels like I'm ignoring questions or challenge responsibilities, I am ...temporarily. My back is killing me and I just want to sit back in said recliner, turn off my brain, and kickoff my viewing with a cheesy '80s flick by the name of Shock 'Em Dead.

Enjoy the challenge!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

So I rewatched The Devil's Backbone last night for the Criterion crossover (I've already seen them all so they always have to be rewatches >_>), didn't like it as much as the first time but still a good film.

Then, one of my housemates started going crazy and we were forced to have a group meeting about some personal stuff that has happened recently, which I could not be sober for. That went on for a few hours and then finally I got back to watching Strange Behavior and it didn't seem great, but I also admit I was not in the right frame of mind to be watching anything and I couldn't follow it at all. Hopefully this housemate drama cools down soon and stops taking away from my horror challenge...

I also completely forgot about my montage thing until 30 minutes into The Devil's Backbone and had to quickly stop to find a notepad to write down times. I forgot how annoying that was lol

My wife likes horror almost more than me. She enjoys the challenge when she's able. She asks what the theme for the day is most every day. And she tries to watch the 31 films subset selection each day.

I shall withhold her true identity so you don't get any ideas.

My wife participates a bit. Not a big fan of the challenges though. She is out of town with the kiddo and letting me enjoy myself here the first half of the challenge and then I will try to get some of her movie and beer reviews in.

My wife doesn't care. Sometimes I get an "it must be October since you're watching horror".

I started off with Frozen Scream. The back of the case had a description of the plot but I don't think the movie did a good job of following through. Not that it didn't try.

Hey Chad, I'm getting a new recliner too. Been waiting over a month for the thing to arrive and get delivered. 5 more days. It was a birthday present.

I know you have Roku shadokitty, if you haven't programmed the channel Salsa Warriors add it. It has every Godzilla movie (except maybe the questionable one based in New York) available right now. Best line-up I have ever seen on a channel I would never think would have any movies.

Nope. And my wife purposely waited until after we were married to tell me that she didn't like horror movies.

I am very fortunate. My wife will watch all weekend with me every week as long as the movies are "not old" or subtitled. Evidently, that means roughly the 90's on. She did watch Corridors of Blood tonight and enjoyed it even though it was made in 1958. I think I'm in trouble with tomorrow's subset film though.

The same goes for attending a live event such as a horror convention, haunted house, play, ghost tour, etc. You have one.

And if anyone's up for it, we could always add one crossover day to that for good measure. It's not too late.
Sounds fair. Not entirely clear on what you meant by crossover day, but...

My reading (and if I'm misunderstanding, it becomes my proposal) is:

There are 31 Theme Days. (Plus a bonus two crossovers.)
There are 31 Subset films. (Plus a bonus two crossovers.)

You must watch a qualifying item for each of the thirty-one themes on the day. You must watch the thirty-one subset films on ANY day. Note: watching the 31 subset films on the correct days gives you completed Themes AND Subset.

Within those 31 there are wildcards.

SUB-WILD1 is watching a theatrical film, allowing you to complete the subset with 30/31.
SUB-WILD2 (and SUB-WILD3?) is watching a Crossover Day film (Criterion/Comedy), potentially allowing completion with 29/31. (Actually 31/33.)
Taken together, you could watch 28/31 + 2/2 Crossovers + 1 Cinema film.

THM-WILD1 is attending a Live event.
THM-WILD2 is one of the Crossover Days. (Only 1? Both?)
(THM-WILD3 is a Theatrical film?)

Themes complete with 28/31 + Live + Crossover + cinema.

Clarification? Argument? Anything else?

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I enjoyed Clown a lot so going to make it an Eli Roth night by watching Knock Knock. I got 2 more Eli Roth films I want to watch, The Last Exorcism (one of my favorites, as I love Ashley Bell) and The Last Exorcism 2 (only saw it at the Hollywood Premiere and missed the opening as I was meeting Ashley).

I was thinking about revisiting the Saw movies, but with the new movie coming out in 2017, might as well wait another year before revisiting.

Dread Central has a new posting up with the 10 most underrated horror films:

Like the list outside of ABCs of Death.

I see that IFC has obtained all those old B&W films that used to be offered on AMC's streaming site back in the day. They'll be airing those in the early hours of the weekends. Good to see those on tv (I've got a soft spot for Blood of Dracula. That vampire chick gets my vote for most favorite makeup job for 50's horror)

Sorry to hear about the drama but perhaps you can clear up the odd question about Strange Behavior. I always hear that it's an Australian film, but everybody sounds American to me. Is it just Australian funded then?

Everyone is definitely American and it's set in America. It was shot in New Zealand, so I assume that it's just Australian funded, but it definitely doesn't feel like an Australian film to me.

I was starting off with Corridors of Blood but then the kids decided we should watch 'something we can all enjoy' and switched to Scooby Doo and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon - Scooby has some epic teamups but this is not one of it; the Mystery crew play comic relief to wrestlers who for some reason spend all their time racing (?). Blah...

House of Seven Corpses is a snoozer for the first 2/3rds but then gets surreal and fever dreamish.
I had hoped for cheesy rock antics with Zombie Nightmare; it's a surprisingly subpar film despite some bold musical cues. Meh. Duds... but still the kind of lame fluff that's pleasant enough for late night brain dead couch potat'ing.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Since I'm pretty much horror exclusive for the next 31 days, I've made it a tradition to not watch horror on September 30th. Instead, I gave my DVD of Stephen Frears' The Program a spin. Decent little sports/scandal bio. Needed maybe a bigger budget, as you could feel some compromises. But we live in different times and most dramas like this aren't even getting theatrical runs.

So, anyway. Today is the day and I'm always a fan of the zombie theme because there are just so damn flicks to choose from. I've got a couple of titles in mind and might do the subset flick as well. I will be working Saturday's this month, but only a few hours. I'll head off there soon, then back for a quick walk and probably around 3pm, I'll be sitting down for my first feature. Think it's going to be Maggie with Arnie. I like the idea of starting it off with a big star who is not associated much with the genre.
