Excellent to see Diabolik back as a 3rd year sponsor, and I think I read GoldenWheels aka Hamilton Books offering... the generous selection of prizes each year always surprises me.
I dont believe in ghosts, ufos, etc (Im a firm atheist) but I find it easy to engage in televised horror on a hypothetical fantasy level. I've heard some argue you have to believe 'found footage' or documentary style horror movies/tv for them to be effective but that's not my experience - Im a sucker for ambiance and out there surreal antics. One of the best explainations I've heard of real life ghost reporting is that some people can't tolerate vague environmental cues so their brain psychologically over compensates what is in the shadows, just beyond view, etc inventing something that must be there (in some cases "ghosts") in a desperate effort to restore mental order.
I especialy enjoyed the 2 A Haunting movies (DVD 2fer link below), the tv show is hit/miss but when when good it's really eerie in my opinion - your mileage may vary...

That's a really good point, and it's never crossed my mind before.
On the other hand, the ephemeral nature of such encounters doesn't exactly allow time to first actually think about using your phone to get evidence and then take it out, unlock it, open the camera app, and take the picture or video. Millennials may be quick on the draw, but I'd be too caught up in actually experiencing something unusual to think about taking my phone out of my pocket.

I have a friend that acts like the belief in the supernatural is akin to belief in religion and gets offended when I question his belief. It's just hard for me to believe an educated adult could actually think ghosts are real. He has no direct experience to pull from, he's just heard other people talk about their experiences. To me, that's wanting to believe as oppose to researching for yourself. If I hear a noise in my house, I think about the dozens of practical things it could be, not automatically leap to 'ghost'.
I love the cuss out of ghost stories just like I love super hero stories. I can suspend disbelief for a book or movie, just not for reality. And the beauty is, the burden of proof is not on me, it's on the folks that say ghosts exist. I don't have to proof to them they aren't real just like I don't have to proof leprechauns, fortune tellers or X-Men aren't real.

I'm wanting to copy the OHMC Facebook page and make the banner my cover photo. Is that cool with you, Chad?

That's one aspect of horror films that annoys me, the "Rationalist" character scoffing in the face of a monster of clearly supernatural origin. How many times have you seen a horror movie red shirt say, "There must be a scientific explanation for th. . " right before the monster eats his guts. I believe that vampires are entirely fictional, but if you produce a walking corpse that feeds on the blood of the living, can transform into a bat, and disintegrates in daylight, I'm going to believe in vampires.
Of course, if you value your friends, then you should embrace them and just not mention how wacky you think some of their beliefs are. They probably are already overlooking some of yours.

Except burden of proof is one thing when it comes to contracts and court. There's no faith to deal with. That's what you're dealing with when it comes to your friend's wacky beliefs.
***If anyone believes in the existence of leprechauns/gnomes/fairies/similar folk, you might as well stop reading now***
There's at least one group out there, that I know of, that gives tours for people to go out and look for gnomes/leprechauns/fairies. There's no burden of proof to overcome to get these people to believe that none of these things exist as they know of them. When you've misplaced something, that's because you have a leprechaun in your home and the mischievous little creature is the cause of it being misplaced. It's kind of like being addicted to crack. People can't make you want to get off of it, or believe in leprechauns, that change comes from within.
I listened to a two hour or so interview with the guys that do the tours. I found it super interested even though I didn't believe any of it.

Rather than get deeper into this conservation and possibly piss anyone off, I think I'll just get out my Leprachaun set and finally watch that thing next month.

How many people here have been to a wax museum? Personally I hate them and everyone that's been to one.
By the way, there's a great new release on wax museums coming out next month.

New Phantasm: Ravager trailer was released today:
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/09/20...lusive-trailer
http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/189...ate-announced/
Also, the Blu-ray set and individual discs are reportedly set for a December 6 release.
And if you were planning on watching all five in HD for the challenge you still can. 1, 3, 4 and 5 are being released in digital HD 10/7 ...also the subset day for the original. And if you have the Scream Factory Blu-ray of Phantasm II you're good to go. At least that's my understanding.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/
I started laying out my blu rays and dvds that i plan on watching by day based on the subsets. i have plenty to watch except for Oct 13th, the baby sitter , nanny day.
i have bloody birthday and i have the baby on blu but unless i want to rewatch halloween or childs play i am struggling to compile a list to watch (that i have an interest in watching). alot of the recommendations in that subset just don't float my boat. anybody else having an issue like that?
