Today I listened to the director/editor commentary for The Omen and they had lots of praise for the cast, in particular Lee Remick who is always a little underrated, and Billie Whitelaw, although neither could remember the name of "the playwright who wrote plays for her" (that would be Samuel Beckett). It's quite a lighthearted and funny commentary, but still informative.

I picked it up during the recent Arrow sale. I plan to watch it at some point this month.

Anyone watching the Exorcist TV show..? No idea how it compares to the film, but it's not bad on its own merits. Reasonable acting, semblance of plot...

I watched The Rite for today's theme (because some bozo ordered the only copy of Exorcist III from the library but is not picking it up so it wasn't available) and my wife and I both thought it was quite good. We are also watching the Exorcist series for the new fall season and we are finding it very interesting. Obviously it's on a network so it's not exactly scary but we're enjoying where it's going so far.

Watched the first episode today and loved it. I don't do cable or hulu though, so the rest will wait for BD most likely.

It's on my watchlist this year and I'm looking forward to seeing it. I nominated it for the Slasher or Vacation subsets, but it didn't make the cut.

It's available at Shudder if anyone's interested:

I agree, Trevor! I remember the first time I watched the film, a good friend came over to my place for dinner. We watch the film and get super freaked out. The film ends, and I turn to my friend and tell her how scared I am. She replies, "I know! It's very creepy. Well, I've got to go home and walk my dog." And off she went into the night, leaving me to be skittish at every noise in my apartment complex!

Ok, after Talking Dead I am going to see if I can get some actual scared thrills with Mama. And maybe follow that up after midnight with House of Seven Corpses for tomorrows subset.

How has Fear The Walking Dead been this season? I've heard poor things about it, so have avoided it when I saw it on the Dish Guide.

I came upon my first turd of the challenge with A Knife for the Ladies that I got in a Code Red bundle since I figured it was like $10 more than buying the other movies in the bundle that I actually wanted. Ugh. What a turd. I wish I would have kept my $10.

On the plus side, I watched The Exorcist III for the theme night/subset today as a first time watch and loved it. How had I let this one slip me by for all these years? Otherwise, it was a busy day with still dealing with the issues resulting from a minor house calamity that prevented me from taking advantage of the crossover night, so I only managed to get in 2 movies today. The rest of the week should be much better.

That movie sucks so hard. You can sell it for more than the $10 you invested.

I'd like to coin a new term "Franco'd"... In honor of the numerous times this has happened to me with Jess Franco films - it's like Rick Rolled but instead of a song playing and then turning to Rick Astley this is when a movie looks like it is going to be cool, has some stuff going for it (plot devices, cast, crew) and then you turn it on and it's a total chore to get through. You just got Franco'd

Well, it is still a zombie apocalypse show. I am pretty forgiving when it comes to the zombie genre. Especially when they stick to good rules. Yes the characters are annoying but zombies, great effects, epic scope. It's what I always wanted when watching the original 'Night Of...' trilogy as a kid. Just to be in that universe for extended periods of time. It delivers on that that want.

It's also why I always watch the extended cut of Dawn unlike all these Theatrical peeps here.

I agree. I'm willing to overlook the annoying characters. And I keep hoping they all die. But the world they're living in is so interesting that I look forward to each new episode.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Sunday night is always TV night, so we started with Scream Queens. I had been holding off on starting this season. Then Fear the Walking Dead, Ash vs. Evil Dead and now just starting episode one of The Exorcist.

I love Ash vs. Evil Dead so much. It is such a joy to be able to have a TV show featuring the Evil Dead mythology. I can't believe it took them so long to do one.

Scream Queens is a lot of fun as well.

We only watched the first of tonight's Fear the Walking Dead episodes. For some reason, my receiver didn't pick it up but had the later re-airing scheduled to record. Oh well. Something for later.

It has basically been more of the same. It's not very good. It makes you really appreciate the main show, for all the faults it has as well. My friends still enjoy Fear the Walking Dead more than I do. I guess it has its moments, but it would be a hard one for me to recommend to someone. It might be worth a try for the challenge if you're looking for something short to watch. I know I'll watch far worse things this month!

Thanks. I've had a few people stop me to look at it. Always funny when that happens.

Anyone seen Cropsey?

Speaking of scary movies that do scare that everyone has mentioned, what are some of the best scary movies of all time that spook you?

Holy shit, Chad--I could tell that you obviously busted your ass making that banner, but over 100K images!

We're not worthy.

I know Franco probably has his fervent fans here, but I have the same response to most of his movies. Yet I keep giving more of his movies a chance, fooled by fan praise and/or how psychotronic they sound. Yet for every decent one, I suffer through a pile of turds. I just don't learn ... I'll probably watch some more this month

Speaking of awful movies, I rewatched Exorcist II. I thought surely it's reputation was overblown due to comparisons with the original classic. And how bad can a movie directed by John Boorman, with music by Ennio Morricone, and featuring Richard Burton, Louise Fletcher, Max von Sydow, and James Earl Jones be? The answer ... pretty bad. William Friedkin tells a funny story about this movie:

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Tonight, I finally got in a couple flicks and started off with a bang, with two all time favorites/classics I hadn't seen in years, and was blown away all over again with Carrie (1976) & An American Werewolf In London(1981) on blu-ray.

I'm going to try to take advantage of Youtube and other streaming options like that list of films someone loaded on a google drive, to get in plenty of first time views. I'll watch some favorites along the way, hopefully.

And shameless plug. Here's a short film I made in the days leading up to Halloween last year. I'm proud of the results. And if anyone wants to view it, feel free to share and spread the word. It's only 6 minutes. So it's easy to slip in a viewing somewhere.

And here's a widescreen print of the original Night of the Living Dead for all to enjoy in all it's gritty glory.

Unfortunately, I'm off to a very slow start, having only watched four movies in the first four days (well, three and dusk+) and no FTVs! Hoping the rest of the week (and month) will be better!

I definitely agree! I actually don't know anyone who doesn't find this one to be unsettling.

I also agree about Exorcist II, though I found it to be so hammy it was enjoyable. I was thinking about rewatching this to see if I missed something, but your review is making me rethink this plan...

I'm very lucky to have a very Horror-challenge compliant wife! She's been watching many of the movies with me since 2010 (when I first really started being involved in the challenge on this forum) and has even been looking forward to the month of October to take part in the movie watching and Halloween fun! She hasn't seen as much horror, so it's fun to show her many of the classics!
