Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I have the first season of Ash vs. The Evil Dead on BD and I'm thinking of expanding my Challenge to TV for the first time. I usually stick strictly with movies. Any thoughts on how much I might enjoy this series if I'm fan of all three original movies?

I loved it and thought it was an awesome extension of the movie series. Lots of fun as long as you don't take it too seriously...like the movies.

I know some people had their complaints but I found it to be a blast and can't wait until the second season.

I was looking for a good app for the computer but I may just stick with streaming it through a window unless there is an advantage to doing it thru an app on the PC.

This is what I found so far: http://www.internet-radio.com/search/?radio=halloween

The Weirdsville station is pretty interesting as well.

I think TuneIn is also available on the computer.

I decided to try Halloween Radio.Net and love it. I just heard the funniest song, Omar The Vampire. This blows Google Play's Halloween radio selection out of the water.

Just a quick question but why was Phantasm picked as a subset pick when a much superior version is coming out in December? I would have rather saved this viewing for next year so we would have the best presentation to watch. Not complaining but just curious.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and watch a couple of episodes. If I enjoy them, I might try to marathon the entire season during the Challenge. And one of these years I might check out the remake.

I understand Phantasm was picked specifically on October 7th because that is when the new movie and remastered editions will be available on pay per title to rent or own streaming services like iTunes, Vudu, etc. Technically the superior versions will be available on that date, just not on physical media.

There's already been way too many crazy songs I've been introduced to:
Phil (Balloo) Harris-"The Thing"
The Crossfires-"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"
Roy Haydock-"Halloween" (I love the female voice on this)
The Makers-"Death of Mr. Monster" (I think Castlevania ripped this off!)

There was one werewolf song that drove my dog crazy with it's constant howling I didn't catch what it was called though. I also never knew "Goo Goo Muck" was an oldie. I always thought it was a Cramps original.

And some of the Big Band songs are interesting. You've heard of pre-code movies. But I think I've heard some pre-code songs!

We could always put "listen to horror audio (podcast, audiobook, etc.)" on the checklist as an optional entry.

This. And what better film to represent R.I.P Angus Scrimm day than the film that put him on the map?

The first season 2 episode of Ash vs Evil Dead is up for free on Starz if you can't wait until Sunday's premiere.

Also from IGN with a Q&A afterwards.

Get an early preview of Ash vs Evil Dead's Season 2 premiere, "Home," ahead of its October 2nd premiere on Starz. And make sure to stay tuned after the episode for a Q&A with stars Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless as they answer your questions about the show!

I know this isn't horror either but I watched Pit Stop last night and Sid Haig was pretty great in it. The whole movie ended up being really good. I was hesitant at first because it looks like a race movie but the8 drama and stuff ends up being outside the races. They show some actual racing but those scenes aren't so long as to make non-race fans get bored. On the other hand, if you're coming in to watch a race car movie, you'll probably be disappointed by all the acting and story.
Comet TV has quickly become my "background station" when I'm puttering on something at home, especially since they added MST3k to the Fall broadcast schedule.

Went out shopping today, and it really seems like retailers are scaling back their Halloween inventories. You couldn't swing a dead cat over your head without knocking into a cardboard stand full of horror movie collection DVDs a few years ago. Does the holiday just not bring in as many bucks as it did in past years?

Isn't SiriusXM's channel just a bunch of noises? No actual songs? What a wasted opportunity.

I think it starts off playing songs and then morphs into "scary noises" once Halloween hits. With all their available bandwidth you'd think they would offer more than one channel like with the Christmas music. And last year it didn't even start until 10/19. But yeah, it sucks.

I really enjoyed Green Room, and am excited to see it again during the challenge! I'd definitely love to have The Witch as a subset next year, though. It'd be great to have a more in-depth discussion with you guys on that one.

Does this count as horror? If so, I'll have a chance to check out the new BD!

Anyone that's planning to buy a movie at Vudu should probably wait until the annual Halloween sale. It usually starts around the middle of the month.

Any idea if we'll be able to rent it? I'd like to watch the remastered version, but I might end up getting the boxset down the road.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Speaking of Phantasm, those of you with cable or satellite have some other choices. The first, third and fourth will be showing on Syfy. Yeah, not the best option, but it's an option that won't require additional investment.

Phantasm II will be airing on Cinemax and is on demand. It obviously won't be better quality than the Blu-ray but not a bad option for those of us who never picked it up because we weren't sure if the first would ever get released.

Vudu will have it for Rental.

I have the SD version in my Vudu library. I must have bought the old version a long time ago, and they switched it over to the new Remastered version. It looks pretty good. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I don't remember the movie looking this good in the past. And the audio is 5.1 DD+. I think the previous audio was 2.0 stereo.

I think the overall decline in physical media sales coupled with most stores putting out the same 15-20 horror titles every year is a lot of that. For most people streaming a few horror films Halloween night is good enough and those of us who still desire physical media have purchased any of those same old titles long ago. I pretty much stopped looking at the displays several years back when I realized they never contained anything "new."

Yuck. Well, I guess old farts like me will wait for the BD and suffer with the DVD until December. (Actually I will suffer longer as I will just wait for the complete boxset.)

Anyone remember the good old days of XMRadio and their Special X Halloween and Christmas stations? They were awesome. A mix of commercials, music, quotes, short stories, and crazy random odd stuff for both holidays. I loved those stations. Then they moved them to online only to die and eventually dropped them altogether.

Thanks for the reminder. Looks like I need to re-up my Starz subscription. Wonder if they are having any sign-up specials to celebrate?
