Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
I think I'll give it a few more days and around Monday we'll start the theme voting. In the meantime, keep the new theme suggestions and subset volunteering coming ....and whatever else. Just keep in mind the main emphasis is currently on themes since the two sync up and it has to be done in a certain order.
Also, if you have any suggestions for returning themes share them too.

Volunteer!
And a vote against "ten years of Blu-ray" as being redundant.
Are previous themes off-limits, or are some rotating back in this year..?

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
^ I agree with the returning suggestions for:
Backwoods
Aquatic or Jawsploitation
Scream Queens
Road Terrors
It's a good variety of returning themes so I'll throw my vote in for those returning ones suggested above and will give the rest of my votes for new theme suggestions when voting starts soon.
I haven't seen it yet but from what I've heard maybe add The Shallows to that list as well as The Reef and Bait (2012).

Unfortunately The Jaws Rip Library website used for the Jawsploitation theme we did in 2011 has been taken down. Thankfully the Internet Wayback Machine has come to the rescue:

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
I'll throw out a new one: movies featuring seances. I love me a good seance scene.
Another suggestion--how about movies shot in Bronson Canyon?
I'm also rather fond of the "dark and stormy night" theme that was suggested this year.
As for returning themes, I'm always ready to watch a made-for-TV horror movie, a good ghost story, a giant reptile crushing some balsa cityscapes, and movies made 25 and 50 years ago.
I'm also available for a subset pick.

You know I am down for a subset pick of questionable quality
Also has Zombie Period Piece been done before?

I'll volunteer for a subset pick again this year. Just checked the tables and it looks like I've gotten October 17th three years in a row, what a coincidence!

Alright, all the new theme suggestions have been added, including a few from yours truly. Also, we're almost at the halfway point for subset volunteers -- 14/31 so far.
Like I mentioned earlier, check the first 7 posts in this thread to keep up with the progress being made.
Don't think so.
Yeah, we've had at least a couple of others repeat the same day, although not that many times.
We've done a "sequels vs. remakes" in the past, but never prequels. If it does make the cut, we'll probably have to combine it with those due to the low numbers of offerings.

And yes, the Olympics are starting tonight. Please don't let that keep you from contributing in here. Honestly, do you really wanna spend the next two weeks watching NBC's tape-delayed coverage complete with sappy, inspirational athlete profiles scattered throughout while athletes swim in sewage-infested shit water while upping their chances of contacting the Zika virus? No! You wanna help me make this the best damn challenge we've had yet!

Loving the suggestions and participation so far. I'll kick in another vote for aqautic/jawsploitation films as something that needs to come back. I'm pretty sure shot-on-video horror was done recently, but there's lots of new stuff in that genre around these days, so it might make a nice return.
Speaking of the Olympics, since it's that kind of year I think the sports horror theme is a nice pick. But really, I couldn't give a shit about the Olympics either and totally forgot they were happening. My sleepover suggestion might largely be covered by the babysitter/nanny category, which I'm shocked hasn't been done before. Still so much to mine from our favorite genre!

Add my vote to jawspoitation, academy award horror, and road terrors. And damn right we do Chad. Along with watching horror to get me in the mood.

With Rio Olympics I think insect(think mosquito/Zika) or aquatic horror(infected water) would be appropriate.

I don't know... my link has 27 choices on it. I just think adding "sequels vs. remakes" waters it down too much and it's something that's been done often. There are SO MANY horror sequels and remakes. Picking one of the 25 (or probably more if I looked a little harder) prequels is more specific and interesting. What is the magic number where prequels could be its own theme? I'll see if I can find more.

Perhaps I missed it, but was there a RESULTS thread for last year?
