Watched the DVD of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 from the BD+DVD+DHD package, the DVD was scored, new out of the package, wanted to make sure it played and it did. Followed that with an episode of Game of Thrones (S4): The Laws of Gods and Men.

The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939)
Bought a great book about history and cinema (100 historic films we should watch type of book) and started watching the ones I hadn't seen already. This being one of them. The love/hate relation between Robert Devereux (Earl of Essex) played by Eroll Flynn and Elizabeth the 1st (Betty Davis) seemed to have seeped into the lives of the two stars. Mostly the hate bit!
The film itself is representative of the period, with lavish sets and costumes and technicolor all around. A bit pompous at times but an interesting watch. The DVD transfer was pretty bad though. At times it was like watching a 3D film without the glasses.

Tried to watch the International Theatrical Cut of Blade Runner, from the 4-Disc Collector's Edition, the fucking movie froze at the 1hr 27min mark, had to fight to get the BR player off/back on so I could try it again, FF past it but no joy. Tried the US Theatrical (on the same disc), same deal/same place, same with the Director's Cut. 3 versions of Blade Runner on the same disc. Jackasses. Finally had to finish the movie from a bootleg copy I'd bought several years earlier. Bullshit. Nothing visually wrong with the disc. Fuck me.
