Astroboy, the new CGI movie, it was not as bad as some people say it was but it clearly wasn't as good or thorough as the animated series was. :P

My favorite film. "Poetry" is the perfect word to describe it. If you have the Criterion edition, I highly recommend the excellent commentary track. It's one of the most insightful and interesting commentaries I've heard.

Yes, I did. I wasn't exactly sure how it fit in until the very end and then I "got" it. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this movie. I was entertained and am glad I watched it, but I doubt I'll ever have the desire to watch it again.

I started it, but had to get to bed. I plan to finish the commentary and disc two this weekend. Such a beautiful film.

It was selected as a choice in our Criterion Film Club, thread about it here. No responses yet, but I hope that changes soon.

Re: Last DVD you watched?

Couldn't sleep last night, so I threw on The Wizard of Oz with commentary track. I caught a mistake. John Locke explains that in Baum's original story, the Wicked Witch put a spell on the Tin Man's ax which cause it to sever his limbs one at a time, leading to his body being replaced with tin parts. This part is true, but Locke says it's because the Witch was angry because he'd fallen in love with a young girl. In truth, the Witch was hired by that girl's grandmother who wanted to ensure that she would continue to have the girl around to do things for her since she was lazy.
