When? - We start at dusk, February 27th 2016, and run until dawn on March 2nd 2016. This now expanded time period encompasses the actual Leap Day, the day of either side which sort of substitute for Leap Day for birthdays and anniversaries and the like, and our normal dusk and dawn bonus hours. Anything you complete during these eighty or so hours can be counted. As a bonus, we'll start the Action/Adventure/Crime Challenge a day early this year (but only time travel content), so you could get double credit during this entire Challenge if so inclined.
Wouldn't a day early be Feb. 28th, because of the extra day? Usually we start on the last day of the month (Feb. 28th). This time we start a day earlier (also Feb. 28th).

Since this is a time travel challenge, does anyone have a TARDIS, Time Tunnel, or pocket watch to use to travel to the 27th?

According to the first post in the AACM list thread

"Dates: Sunset on February 28th to sunrise on April 1st."

So it does begin on the 28th which is a day early which means that anything you watch from sunset on the 28th to sunset/dusk on the 29th will count for AACM but only if it is time travel stuff and AACM stuff -- uh right? I think? maybe??

Re: DVDTalk's Second Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge - dusk 2/27/16 to dawn 3/2/16

Well crap, I certainly mucked up those dates. I think my issue was just cut and pasting things from last year, and forgetting to change the start day of the A/A/C/M Challenge.

As always, A/A/C/M should start at dusk/sunset the evening before March 1st. But every four years, it gets the potential bonus of also including the timeframe of the Leap Day Challenge, but only for content that fits that Challenge. So regular A/A/C/M you have to wait to count it until the evening of February 29th, but if the content is also Leap Day Challenge compliant, you can count from the evening of February 27th.

Did I explain that well? I apologize for my mistake, will try to fix it in all the Challenge threads, and apologize again if the date change affects anyone's plans.

Thanks for the clarification Trevor! I've got it now.

A "Leap Day Challenge Time Paradox" -- I LIKE that a lot!

Does "Idiocracy" fit the contest? Perhaps that is an idiotic question.

Not a stupid question at all. It's not really time travel I guess, premise appears to be that he hibernates for centuries and wakes up. I'd have to say it doesn't count unless someone wants to explain it otherwise.

I'd lean toward allowing time travel by suspended animation, here's a some more examples:

Sleeper
Buck Rogers
Planet of the Apes
Adam Adamant
South Park
Genesis II
Austin Powers
Futurama

Is there really that much of a difference between ending up in the future because of a timey-wimey event or falling into a 'freezer' for a couple of centuries?

I can see the argument for allowing those kind of films, but doesn't that open the door for Encino Man, Dinosaurus!, Godzilla, etc.?

Might not be strictly Time Travel (although several are), but one Checklist item I introduced a few years ago to the SciFi challenge might be appropriate. Films that take place in a future that has already come and passed. For instance, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Back to the Future 2, Escape from New York, Conquest and Battle of the Planet of the Apes, etc.

Godzilla wouldn't qualify (he was an atomic mutant); you're probably thinking of Showa era Gamera. Encino Man, would definitely qualify. The Preying Mantis pops up, too and The Thing, both versions. Eh, some movies are more apt than others. The best argument I can give for including these kinds of films is that it would give us more movies/tv to choose from.

Re: DVDTalk's Second Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge - dusk 2/27/16 to dawn 3/2/16

Think we'll hold off on including time travel via suspended animation or similar device for this time, not because it's not a valid argument, but mostly because I delayed ruling on it and the Challenge has already started on several continents. We'll talk about it in 2020 and imagine will include them then.

Edit to add: Screw it, let's count them!

Re: DVDTalk's Second Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge - dusk 2/27/16 to dawn 3/2/16

Here is a list of films good for double credit with the Academy Award Challenge. Most would also be triple credit compatable with the Action/Adventure Challenge. There are probably more, but I'm tired of searching.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
Back to the Future
Back to the Future II
Click
Field of Dreams
Harry Potter
Spoiler:
Prisoner of Azkaban
Interstellar
Kate and Leopold
Midnight in Paris
Peggy Sue Got Married
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Portrait of Jennie
Somewhere in Time
South Park
Star Trek (2009)
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek IV
Superman: The Movie
Terminator 2
Time Machine (1960)
Time Machine (2002)
Twelve Monkeys
12:01 P.M. (1990)
X-Men: Days of Future Past

This would make a great challenge motto!

Thanks for staying on top of this, Trevor. And for the list of films that fit multiple challenges. I'm becoming more confident in my ability to double my output from last time.

Just a reminder that "Dusk" and "Sunset" are different things.

Sunset here is at 5:55pm
Dusk is at 6:21pm

I'm anxiously awaiting 4:21 so I can start using my 2 hour advantage! Only about a hour to go!

I watched the IRV series Dirk Gently yesterday and today and discovered one episode would have counted had I waited. The "Pilot" has a man who travels into the past setting up a unusual course of events.

As you should have expected, since dusk and sunset are different, use the earliest one. You're live! Go go go!

Re: DVDTalk's Second Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge - dusk 2/27/16 to dawn 3/2/16

I started the challenge with an episode of In Search of Aliens, entitled 'Nazi Time Travelers', dealing with the possibility that toward the end of WW2, the Nazis were working on a time machine. It was on the History Channel app on Roku.

I was planning to start with one of the Doctor Who documentaries on Hulu, but Doctor Who has been removed from Hulu.
