Benny Hill?
So my dad wants all Benny Hill sets ever made, US or UK region does not matter
I bought him the Complete 69-89 Thames years boxed set, what else do I need? What are the annuals boxed sets? Are they separate from the Thames set? |
Re: Benny Hill?
No idea, sorry. I'd like a Hill set with only the skits, eliminating all the tacky musical numbers.

Re: Benny Hill?
"episode count" wise, the Region 1 set ("The Thames Years") and the UK sets ("The Annuals") are the same. The only differences, apart from region coding, NTSC/PAL and extras, is that the UK set has the original "ad-caps" (the UK commercial bumpers), while the US set has them edited out.
BOTH sets are missing the 1977 "Benny Hill Down Under" 1-hour show, sketches from which have appeared on previous VHS compilations and, presumably in syndication. This special has never been released on DVD. There is one additional DVD you might want to pick up for him: "Benny Hill World Tour: New York". That contains the last-ever Benny Hill special from 1991. It was recorded as his comeback, intended to launch a new series, but he died before any more could be made. There is also a set with compilations of some of his earlier black-and-white BBC work available in Region one (called "The Lost Years"). You will have to decide whether you think your dad wants this. These were never shown on TV in America. It was the Thames specials that went out to massive audiences in syndication beginning in the late '70s. |
