That was one of my "Holy Grail" shows so I was thrilled when it *finally* came out on disc! Both my granddaughters *love* the show so it's very nice when one of them comes up and asks to watch Batman! :)

I believe I enjoy the show more now then when it first aired. I loved it then and was pleasantly surprised to find I still do! And for many of the same reasons, although I *do* get the humor now and it sailed over my head back then.

It's probably because Batman has been out of circulation for so long compared to ST.

That, but I believe it's more because Batman was intended to be funny/camp while Star Trek, other than those few episodes designed to be lighter fare, is supposed to be serious.

Today we're out of school for the 3rd day this week for ice/sleet/snow. It's actually not been too bad with less than 1/2" on the streets each day that's gone by noon. But that 1/2" has been on the streets during "drive time" each day making getting kids to school somewhat hazardous so administration closed the schools. My department (IT) works year round, even if the kids are out for bad weather, so I've not been able to fully take advantage of the "break" as we only leave 30-60 minutes earlier than normal on such days and my boss has come to the main "Tech building" (3 of us have our office in that building which houses the server farm for the district and is separate from the Administrative office building) which means we do "busy work" instead of piddling around (i.e. general discussions and streaming movies/TV shows between light maintenance that can't be done while people are working). :( Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy and excellent boss but is somewhat a workaholic so we can't "goof off" quite as much when he's there.

I *did* promise the grandkids I'd take off today if they're out, so I'm home for that. I tend to think it'll be a day full of board games rather than TV viewing but who knows... :D

I picked up a copy of The 100 S1 on the recommendation of one of the other techs and watched it Tuesday and Wednesday. There were times I wasn't sure just how I felt as it would be high drama with some good SF elements and then rapidly devolve into "90210" teen angst type crap before shifting gears back to the adults back on the "Ark" for more serious material. By the time the season ended the teen angst seems to have been dialed back quite a bit and it got on to more serious matters. While it *does* have a somewhat derivitive feel with a few plot elements, as well as a few segments which bend to almost breaking some physical laws, it's been a fun ride. I enjoyed it enough that I'm curious as to where it's going with S2. I'll pick that up as soon as I find a cheap ($10 or less) copy.

Other than that it's been more ST:TOS S2 (on BR) and I started The Odd Couple S3, another old favorite, last night before we lost power for a bit.

I just watched an old episode of The Merv Griffin Show on Get TV from 1967 that seemed like a milestone episode. One of his guests was none other than Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself.

Thanks to receiving a telescope as a Christmas present, I've recently renewed an interest in amateur astronomy that has smoldered for years. Consequently today I've been watching shows on outer space off and on. A good example is an episode of Secrets of the Universe about black holes that I just finished on Hulu.

I cannot understand a lot of the ire that (was) directed at it... it's so obviously tongue in cheek that you can't attack it for being flippant, but equally pretty reverent of the material.

Find something with Sir Patrick Moore.

Watching three new-on-TV things this month - War and Peace, Beowulf and Agent Carter Season 2 - and I've been very underwhelmed. AC has changed the setting and most of the cast, as well as the tkne and... it isn't an improvement.

War and Peace made very little sense and was shakey and choppy, while Beowulf looked good but had an atrocious script, odd camerawork and really weird editing (an early fight scene had some kind of odd reverb effect going on, for instance).

At least Dead Like Me is pretty good - though the first season seemed mildly uplifting and funny, while the second has a definite undercurrent of futility and sadness... which makes sense, but isn't as enjoyable.

Roll on Oscars!

I'll keep on watching mostly TVonDVD next month. I may watch one or two films which won or were nominated but most Oscar winning films hold little interest for me. While I own quite a few "Best Picture" films (that whole "quality collection" type thing), I find that many are only worth a single viewing. Yes, there are exceptions, but for me they are generally few and far between.

I always watch TV, but I'm looking forward to a new challenge beginning at the same time too.

Tonight is the perfect night for gorging. It's bitter outside, and with a blue mood, it's the perfect night for a TV marathon. I plan to stay up late watching TV tonight.

I don't know how many episodes have him in them, but I found some episodes of The Sky at Night on YouTube. Thanks for the tip. :)

I've managed to watch quite a bit of stuff that I'd been back up on from the DVR, but not much else. I always intend to settle in and watch tv, but end up doing other stuff instead.

One of my Amazon Prime subscriptions is Smithsonian Earth, and I've been watching Baby Animals on there. I've just finished the second episode and so far am enjoying the show.

Regularly! It's why I go through different phases. This is probably even more noticeable in my music listening habits, but yeah, some days I just get a specific itch that only a certain kind of genre/milieu can scratch.

I've been waking up early lately for some reason, so thought I'd make use of my insomnia and start watching stuff. Today I started by finishing an episode of The Sky at Night on YouTube, about Venus that I started yesterday, but was too tired to finish.

Gosh, I've fallen behind! I haven't updated my list in eleven days due to poor planning and Oscar-fever. When I do, you'll all be thrilled to see that I finished Murder, She Wrote! I started at the beginning of 2013 so it took me roughly three years to get through all twelve seasons. Now, I need to find the movies on sale!

I also finished Antique Bakery, and it was absolutely delightful - one of those short anime series that leaves you wanting another twelve episodes. As I mentioned before, the series handles its gay characters and themes really well. There aren't any weird age gaps in relationships, and everyone isn't implausibly gay. My only complaint is the weird tonal shifts from silly, everyday business/romance to darker stuff (kidnapping and murder) felt... weird.

With the challenge winding down, I've got a couple more things to finish. I need to finish season one of True Detective and the short anime series Loveless. I would also like to start HBO's Looking before the month ends.

Re: TV on DVD* Challenge - The Sixth Season Discussion Thread

This weekend was a mix of stuff plus I managed to watch more than I though I'd get in Friday.

I finished S3 of The Odd Couple. I know this was released edited but I'm not seeing where so far. Great series and a good season. This one has the classic episode "Password." Even though I saw this in first run it's still amazing to see a young Betty White. She was a real looker.

I also finished S1 of In Search Of.... It's a good series and, in spite of a few weaker episodes, was a good first season.

I discovered I still had a few episodes of S1 of The X-Files to watch so I finished that one. That's a series I never saw much during first run. I pretty much wrote it off then as being the "hot series of the moment" and only watched a few episodes if I could find nothing "better" on to watch. I started watching later seasons in syndication and decided I was all wrong about the series. I really enjoyed that first season and should have given it more attention during the initial run - but then I'd have not purchased the seasons this late in the game and would have spent quite a bit more on the acquisition (I paid $6/season new for the newer releases - a bargain).

The next disc of Charlie's Angels brought a couple of better episodes but also a few "meh" ones as well. Pretty much like the series has been so far. It's fun to watch and I'm enjoying it but it's still one of those pretty much disposable late 70s shows.

I'd purchased S1 of Coach a couple of weeks back. That's a series I don't have fond memories of but watched fairly regularly so I purchased a used copy when I found one real cheap to see if it's better now that I'm older. I found it's pretty much like it was during the original run... There are a *few* laughs but the only real draw for me is Shelley Fabares with shows generally focused on a somewhat jerk of a coach and athletics. Sure he has some redeeming qualities but he pretty much epitomizes most of the coaches I've known. One of the reasons I have a major dislike of sports today.

I wasn't able to do the challenge this year but I'm stuck on season 11 of MSW and cannot get through the episodes anymore. They all seem to be rehash of previous episodes and even the guest stars are not enough to keep me entertained. I wonder if you felt the same way for the latter seasons too or if it's just me?

I have that series on DVD but haven't yet started watching (I need to as it's a old favorite). However, I *do* remember thinking that same thing during the original airings. It just seemed to be on autopilot. Still, my wife and I enjoyed it more than many other programs on the air during those last couple of seasons.

I'm right there with you. I'll admit that I only got through the last two seasons because I've been working on some art projects as well as cataloging my film collection. In both seasons, I feel the mysteries got incredibly easy to figure out (that man's watch doesn't have a band), and the episodes were padded with superfluous characters and plots. (In the bandless-watch episode, there's a subplot about a man who thinks he's only got a week to live. He's not a suspect.)

There are a few episodes to love. Season 11 has "To Kill a Legend" which has a lot of Seth being bombastically grumpy and "Murder in High C" which is forgettable except for an opening that apes giallo films (sans gore). Season 12 has "Evidence of Malice" in which background character Deputy Andy is the prime suspect. Actually, the last episode is quite good, mostly due to David Ogden Stiers playing a classical music radio host.

What did you think? He basically popularised amateur astronomy via late-night TV shows, and taught a generation to look up. :)

I was flailing a bit to start the week. I finally opened my Cowboy Bebop BD set and watched four episodes, but decided to wait till I could focus more on it. I then watched a couple episodes of Black Sail (a recent digital purchase), then realized I had abandoned The Walking Dead this half-season so I watched all eight episodes. Now I'm resuming Friends with season 9. I don't think I'll finish the series by the end of the challenge, though. :(
