That's pretty cool and it's good for those doing the April B-Movie challenge, which is among the other populare challenges.

I'm at a brain loss. What's so special about April 29th?

On special days, the idea of allowing the once every 7 years of a Friday the 13th just two weeks before the Horror Chllenge start, and allowing only Jason movies, was pretty much universally hated.

I'm not a fan of advance days that somehow count for the October Horror Challenge; it's great to watch horror whenever but counting it for the October challenge feels awkward and potentially restrictive to newbies... besides, who can keep track six months (or whatever time) later.

If people want to stretch out the Horror Challenge the now defunct Horror Movie Club was a cool idea (monthly discussion thread); or maybe hold an isolated mini-challenge [1 Day of Horror - April 29, could even be a sub-part of whatever challenge occupies that month].

My wife just found this picture; perhaps it'll be my banner next year.

Ignore that part, I forgot the extra day was in Feb not April.

Ah, good, I'm not as clueless as I thought then.

But February 29th is reserved for the second best Challenge DVDTalk has, the Quadrennial Leap Day Challenge of all things time travel.

Followed the next day by the Action / Adventure / Crime / Mystery Challenge right?

Depends on who runs it. If I do it again, it'll start the 28th at dusk as normal, so you'll get a bonus day in there.

If you don't want to, I'll run it.

Reminder bump that the pre-challenge thread for the optional lists goes up *next month*! I was planning on posting it earlier (first of the month) than last year's in hopes of not finishing everything up right as the actual challenge begins.

If you have theme / subset / checklist ideas don't hesitate to post them in here now.

Can't believe it's already time to start planning for the challenge. :)

I'd like to suggest that whoever's running the challenge, or organizing the prizes, should contact Shudder.

https://www.shudder.com/
https://www.facebook.com/shudder
https://twitter.com/shudder

They do a lot of stuff with social media. Maybe we can get some free subscriptions for prizes. Or maybe discounts and free trials during October. Also we might get shoutouts on their Facebook and Twitter which could bring new participants.

I'd like us all to chip in and help Chad so we can get the theme nights, Motd, and checklist ironed out in advance. I think like others, I like to have my movies planned out in the beginning.

Some themes suggestions:

New movies - horror released within the last 2 years

War\Military related horror (i.e. Outpost 1-3, Deathdream, Dead Snow 1-2, House II, etc)
https://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/...horror-of-war/
http://warmovieblog.com/archives/396...halloween.html

Involving harvested body parts [not sure if too spoiler-y; might be too limited]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catego...an_trafficking
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls002260628/

Inappropriate public service workers (probably there's more than just killer cops)
http://www.joblo.com/horror-movies/n...nre-movie-cops

Horror movies with hidden cameras / voyeurism

That would be me, and will do. I've been considering trying something new with the prizes. I think the only thing outside of physical media we've had are books from Hamilton. I did once try contacting one of the companies that makes horror-themed pillows. They unfortunately never responded back.

Thanks; definitely appreciate all the help I can get.

And August snuck up on me, so the pre-challenge thread will go up tomorrow (8/2). That'll still give us an extra 10 days over last year's.

Horror movies with hidden cameras / voyerism

I'll add them to the already growing list.

Also, I'll have to check, but I *think* we've already done the military one. If so, it can still always come back as a revisited theme.

Have we done classic horror?

I don't think so. The only problem with that is the word is very much subjective and open to interpretation, so deciding on the qualifications might prove difficult. Maybe the top rated horror according to the IMDB?
