I saw it listed somewhere.... maybe Vudu(?) as horror, so I wouldn't quibble.

Creep was probably the dumbest usage of the whole "found footage" craze I've seen yet. So many moments where you are asked to ludicrously suspend your disbelief that the camera holder would STILL be holding on to the camera or certain elements are recorded at all (ie: why is he recording himself sleeping for no reason outside of we need a reason to have the camera on when a scare happens).

Seriously, found footage isn't easy to pull off BECAUSE of this reason. You need to have a realistic reason for the character to be filming, in peril or not.

I'm watching "When a Stranger Calls".

As the dad is leaving in the beginning, he mentions that the babysitter can "help yourself to the fridge, it's loaded". Then he leaves, but before she can close the door, he sticks his head back in and only says "We even have low-fat yogurt!".

I seriously LOLed. Low fat yogurt was apparently hot stuff in 1979?

I know this defeats the purpose of found footage films, but I think I just ignore that concept when I watch them and just think of them as any other movie.

Most old-school vampire movies should work with bats. I'm planning to watch The Legacy (cats), The Abominable Dr. Phibes (bats), and Graveyard Shift (rats).

I've seen the first 2. And I'm passing on the 3rd. Pretty sure I've had my lifetime fill of human centipede movies.

Eh, just another example internet group-think. I've been around the internet long enough to recognize real opinions that I can value. And people who are being contrarian for the sake of it, with a lot of sheep piling on those opinions. BWP is bad for that. Dark Knight is too (going from "this looks awful" to "oh my god! best thing ever!" to "meh ... overrated")

The worst I've seen (for improbably found footage) is Frankenstein's Army. It's supposed to be film footage shot by a Russian group at the end of WWII. And it's a) in color, and b) in English. And (as usually happens in these movies) when shit goes down and everyone is running for their lives from mutant cyborgs, one guy still has keep the camera rolling throughout.

I liked the movie though. Just didn't even need to be found footage (except maybe a little sprinkled in).

Thanks for the responses. I didn't think either would qualify for today's theme but figured I might as well ask.

I tend to be the same way. There are times when it bothers me a little bit, but I usually just go with it.

This is probably not a good time and place to admit that the original is still on my watchlist.

I hate when horror movies invent awkward rules to structure the plot; the Cat People remake is the worst about it... it's suspenseful because they tell you these stretching guidelines but the imagery and narrative alone don't quite sell it - plus the original is a classic.

[Rec] 4 is a total disappointment, it's more like Resident Evil than [Rec]...

I may be getting my B&W arty vampire horror films confused...

It's either The Addition or Nadja. Always get those confused, but pretty sure it's the former.

Original is great classic sci-if, but it's one of the few films where I enjoy the remake more. The Thing, The Ring, and The Fly being others.

The remake, in particular.

I watched that and the original Dracula yesterday, then a Hammer film The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll today. Realizing that those films checked off three decades, I'm now watching the Spencer Tracy Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which covers me from the '30s to the 2010s. My total is pretty paltry, but it's a new high for me.

But more specifically the 1978 remake. There have been at least 4 filmed versions of this one.

The 1956 original, the excellent 1978 remake (one of a small handful of remakes worth your time), Body Snatchers (1993), and The Invasion (2007).

Body Snatchers (1993) isn't too bad but don't waste your time with The Invasion.
