I saw this for the first time maybe 7 years ago. I thought it was just okay and didn't live up to the hype.

Cloudy with a Chance for Meatballs 2 was good. I barely remember the first one but I'm guessing it had more stuff going on compared to the first, like how Monsters University was.

1. Lady Vengeance
2. Hurricane
3. Red to Kill
4. Jodorowsky's Dune
5. Battle Royale II
6. Presumed Innocent
7. Outback
8. Maleficent
9. Alias the Bad Man
10. Little Dieter Needs to Fly

Yes. I did the update at work and couldn't remember anything to add so I left it blank thinking I'd get to it before anyone selected the next title. Didn't work...

It's there now - High Society (1956). I have others but that's the first one that caught my eye.

It's getting harder to select titles to add. I'm trying for stuff I've had a while but just haven't made time to watch. That way I'm somewhat forced to make the viewing. It's not that I've held off out of not wanting to watch these films but they are usually those I want to watch but have passed over many times for one reason or another. Some are those I've held for a challenge but didn't manage to squeeze them in, others because I just wasn't in the mood at the time, some because they're in a set and my OCD typically forces me to watch all the films in a set before moving on. That last presents problems in challenges as most sets aren't themed that way but rather by actor, often with several different genres represented. As a result they langush. Design for Living (Comedy/Romance) is such a title. My copy is in a Gary Cooper Collection with 4 other films: Peter Ibetson (Drama/Fantasy/Romance), The General Died at Dawn (Adventure/Crime/Thriller), Beau Geste (Action/Adventure/Drama/War), and The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (Adventure/Drama). Three work for the Action/Adventure/Crime/Mystery Challenge but the other two don't so they're left hanging. Since Peter Ibetson and The General Died at Dawn are on the same disc as Design for Living I watched them following that film. BUT I don't know if I'll go ahead with the last two or put them on the list at some point. Putting one or both on the list means the set will sit out a while but if I watch them I can put it away. I'm about to have a similar problem with a 25 film Universal 100th Anniversary Collection. It has about a 50/50 mix of films I already own vs. films I didn't own before the purchase. At least 7 of those films I've never seen. Before I can comfortably put it on the shelf I'll have to watch all 25 films.

Fantasia was OK. I'd watch it again, but it's not one I will pull out frequently. It's most likely to get play when I just want something on in the background.

My favorite thing about Fantasia was the music with my favorite piece being the orchestral version of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I had my big thing of watching tons of classics I'd never seen about a decade ago. Lately I've been trying to get through the last few years of Pixar and Disney films we've bought but I've never got around to watching. I used to be caught up on the stuff but the last few years I've really fallen behind.

I pick Hellraiser. It's pretty good but it is not my favorite of that whole movie series. I recommend giving the other movies in the series a try after watching the first one.

I expected that I would have to force myself to watch Gimme Shelter but after I started it I realized that it was actually interesting. The beginning was a little slow but later it got better. I thought it was a really good story. I would recommend it to others.

I agree. I was not expecting the film I watched. First it's sort of a war movie!?! Second it's really more a romance film!?! To be called a "Adventure" film it really didn't have much adventure. I really couldn't decide just what Bogard's character was supposed to be but it was nothing like I'd imagined after decades of seeing clips from the film. He started out looking like somewhat of a trouble maker but he quickly toned it down to have tea with the missionary pair. Then as he and Hepburn's character leave on the boat he seems somewhat a milquetoast but then it is almost like he's totally infatuated and just doesn't know how to talk to a woman. Overall I didn't much care for the character. Hepburn was... Hepburn. On several occasions the score absolutely did *not* fit the screen action. Overall, it was OK but not the great lost classic I was anticipating.

Same here. The only thing I can think of is that someone similar and more popular had come out a little before this one's release.

Because of your comments I put a watch on this at Amazon. A few days back I was able to pick up a very good used copy for ~$18 shipped. That's a bit more than I typically like to pay but with this being OOP and apparently hard to come by with that low a price I went for it. It came in today. I think I'm going to make it my first viewing for the Horror Challenge.

That sounds like a good price. I'm waiting for them to come out on blu-ray or if I find some ridiculously low price, I'll get dvds.

I thought I'd throw out that if anyone wants to swap out their normal list for a horror based one, to coincide with the horror challenge. Now's a good time to do it. Ideally, at the end of the challenge, you'd revert back to your old list unless you were taking part in the comedy challenge, in which case you could do a comedy list.

But if you have a movie picked for you to watch already, you still need to watch it. You can't just skip it because of the list change. I still have to see if little Dieter manages to fly or not. I know he needs to. I'm going to take care of him today or tomorrow and then throw my horror list up.

I think I will take the opportunity to do that. With the Fall TV season starting as well as Fall sports (NCAA football and volleyball), I don't have much time to watch movies so it's preferable if any I do watch will count for both challenges. I was saving my next movie (Hellraiser) to watch once the horror challenge starts anyway, so I will revise my list after I watch that.

Troy was good. I always liked stories about the Greeks. It was better than Alexander and I liked the story more. I'm not sure I'll ever watch it again but it was definitely worth watching once.

Burnt Offerings because I have a copy of the new remastered version on order. It should arrive in a couple of weeks.

High Society sometimes tries hard and it *does* have a couple of classic Cole Porter tunes but at heart it's a rather lackluster musical remake of The Philadelphia Story (1940). It's primarily interesting as it was Grace Kelly's last role before leaving Hollywood to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco. For me, the performances by Louis Armstrong and his band were the true high points of the film. I need to dig up a copy of The Bowery Boys film High Society (1955) just for fun as the screenplay was mistakenly nominated for an Academy Award when the Academy nominating committee confused the title with the Bing Crosby/Grace Kelly musical, High Society (1956), released the following year. Knowing it was a error the writers graciously declined the nomination.

I'm not going to tailor my list for the Horror Challenge but instead use it for the occasional break from horror.

I don't think I've seen any on your list, so I went with a western.

Little Dieter Needs to Fly - Dieter has some issues and I wouldn't be shocked if it's found out he's a raging alcoholic when he's home alone. I'm also not at all surprised he couldn't stay married for more than 4 years, with each of his 3 wives.

It was a good documentary, especially if someone's looking for one about being a POW. I've never heard of the film it spawned, Rescue Dawn, and now I need to track that down to watch.

This is worth a read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieter_Dengler and it's still worth watching after reading that page about him.

Horror challenge list
1. Lady Vengeance
2. Night of the Lepus
3. Versus
4. The Beast Within
5. Body Bags
6. Curtains
7. Happy Birthday to Me
8. Leprechaun: Origins
9. The Man with 2 Heads
10. Night of Dark Shadows

My regular list, saved for after the horror challenge

Night of the Lupus was ok. It was obviously following the trend movies with giant animals or hordes of spiders/ants/worms and instead of getting Shatner, we got the doctor from Star Trek. It's worth a rental at best. There's a Rifftrax of it that might be good but I haven't watched it yet.

Body Bags was alright. You could tell Showtime was trying to get in on the popularity of HBO's Tales from the Crypt. Unlike a lot of anthologies, I thought all the stories were pretty much equal. The last one didn't blow me away compared to the others. This had been on my radar for a long time because in the horror challenge, the theme night for TV movies always seemed to use this as an example. It wasn't until I watched it and saw the Showtime credit that it made sense why I'd never seen it on TV before. It just didn't look like a TV movie to me.

If I were younger and more apt to be offended by the world around me, I'd cry about how the black girl on the cover had her skin lightened so much that you wouldn't know she was black until you watched the move. She didn't meet the same fate as other token black friends seemed to do in other horror films.

Horror challenge list
1. Lady Vengeance
2. Prince of Darkness
3. Versus

5. The Nesting
6. Curtains
7. Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except
8. Leprechaun: Origins

While I'm 100% certain I read the back of the box I'd totally forgotten They Died with Their Boots On is the "highly fictionalized" (IMDB and based on their "goofs" section on the film) story of George Armstrong Custer's life from his arrival at West Point in 1857 to his death at the battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. It's a highly entertaining film and, if accurate on this part, shows how much coincidence played a role in Custer's career. The absoluted weakest portion was the final battle of the Little Big Horn. While Walsh attempted to make a small band of attackers appear to be many more using various photography techniques it was mostly a bust. Frequent scenes demonstrate they had roughly 150-200, at most, indians for the attack. It generally looked like a minor skirmish due to the low indian numbers and *not* a massacre with greatly outnumbered troups.
