Did anyone see the blood moon eclipse early this morning? It was pretty awesome. Pics on my old iPhone didn't take well.
Wish I had gone back inside to get our better camera, but I was too creeped out by the sight of it and the early morning fog and quiet making me think of werewolves and hurriedly getting in my car and locking the door.

Was hoping to find Young Frankenstein on Amazon Instant, but I did find Dracula: Dead and Loving It, so at least I was able to watch some Mel Brooks at least.

I had a cat theme early in the Challenge, then ended up watching a few 'killer kid' films on the 5th by chance.

I thought about doing a Six Degrees Of... theme where you'd watch a film then the next film would be associated to it via an actor, scene or line. Or, even something visual.
For example, I watched Blow Out recently and there were movie posters on the walls: Squirm, Without Warning, etc...
Or, Veronica Cartwright in Invasion of the Body Snatchers then her, as a child in The Birds then, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage.
Try to keep it going for as long as possible.

The Howling is such an epic movie.
There go my plans of a October 30th Super Friends challenge marathon.
Missed the Blood Moon... bummer.
Called in sick to work today (and tomorrow); I wonder if my boss will eventually notice that I call in every October.
So many of the these days are open ended enough I can't imagine you'd be unable to complete the checklist only watching films meeting theme day criteria. If nothing else go totally crazy on Mass Marathon of the Damned day and fit in any checklist stragglers there.
If anything, I think some of the theme days are way too open.

I locked the Exposure on my iPhone 4S, but still couldn't get decent pictures. Either way, it was absolutely beautiful.

I'm locked into the Themes this year, but I'm definitely doing this and probably won't even wait for next October!

Probably not, although I imagine there wouldn't be many monsters turning up to make it much of an issue. Excepting, as you say things like the Lizard, or... trolls in Frozen, frost giants in Thor and so forth. There are near-invisible lines all over the place - slashers are just murder mysteries with a higher body count. (In fact, certain Poirot's probably kill more people than several horror films... and some are maybe even more psychologically jarring to watch.) But there are more complex lines when you think about the supernatural and mystic elements: things with Mummies are horror, Vampires are horror, witches merely could be, 'magic' often isn't. I watched The Man Who Laughed and Cat and Canary last year and really questioned their "horror"-ness, but...
Pacific Rim has monsters; Transformers has shape-shifting aliens. "Maybe" to PR, "no" to T. "Yes" to Alien and Predator and Critters; "No" to many others. ("?" to the comedy Mars Attacks...?) A list I saw the other day said emphatic "yes" to Deep Impact, which seemed interesting...
That's fine. And honestly, I can de-number them if need be. I see more "horror" elements than several supposed-horror films, but I agree they're questionable.
For this specific six episode example, there are two specific reasons:
1. My daughter wanted to watch them anyway.* They weren't picked to be horror-y, they came up in rotation organically and I saw horror elements and parallels, and thought I'd chance it.
2. Rokan/Rodan, Man Who Laughs/Man Who Laughs and then Scarecrow/After Midnight.
*Today she wanted Transformers, but the library disc failed. Wouldn't have gone on the list. She also wants to see Pacific Rim... which will be another quandary if it occurs..!

This is my favorite time of the year. This will be my first year officially attempting the challenge. In years past, I've lurked and noted LOTS of horror recommended by this group. I have watched a lot of movies discussed here, and I thank you all for that.

Rather than debating the niche merits of each film or tv show I like the simple idea that if imdb or allmovie lists it as horror it counts. There are a lot of loopholes or logical rationalizations for including movies that aren't explicitly horror, and ultimately it's up to each participant, but I've found IMDB/AllMovie is a good consistent guideline. I'm glad we still have wildcards for those items that end up debatable.Welcome aboard! It's silly that each year despite watching ~100 horror movies I end up with a larger pile of stuff I want to check out than I had going into the challenge.

So I have a dilemma. I've noticed that every day up to now I've watched only Theme films. Being seven days and 20 films in, I need to decide whether to commit fully to only Themes, or just toss out that restriction (and forego my impending OCD). I also don't think one can complete the Checklist with only Theme titles.
Any thoughts?
Any thoughts?
And I'll repeat what has been said that the checklist should still be very easy to complete. In fact, I bet it could be finished even by now if you had the viewing time and really researched things.
I remember once or twice we've had participants talk about a sort of name that tune thing with the checklist. "I can do the checklist in 14 items" or something. I've started that process in the past but my short attention span doesn't let me actually finish all the research.

All this discussion of what counts is taking time away from watching stuff! The forum software should have built in filters to delete all discussion of what counts.
I'm working on unwatched stuff everyday now, but I swear it's going to take me 50 Octobers to get through all of my horror multipacks alone. Got some potential stinkers from the 50 pack Mortuary Madness lined up this week.

Some pretty spectacular pics over at Space.com.

Watching Full Moon High for today's theme (plan on getting The Howling in later). Pretty damn funny so far. One choice line from a teacher to the principal:

I think Ben wins the thread today.
I have a vague plan to watch something in every available-to-me format by month's end. I opened the Challenge with a laserdisc, but still need to find a countable VHS somewhere.

Speaking of that, I watched Cannibal Holocaust for the first time. The animal cruelty seems totally un-necessary and wow - what a film, a bit preachy but intense challenging the viewer. I wish there was more stuff that hard hitting. Not sure what to follow that with...
