I'm not going to worry about other people's grasp of the concept of horror. It's October, I have my drive-in snacks ready to go, and Imma watch me some movies with witches, vampires, ghosts, zombies, werewolves, ghouls, and Lovecraftian entities from beyond the stars.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Blow Out is probably the only film as far as political thrillers go that many would agree as legitimately qualifying for this challenge.

EDIT: That is, unless Targets falls in that same category. Haven't seen that one yet.

Looks like it's now dead even. More votes please -- A Bucket of Blood -or- Eating Raoul? Otherwise, I'll have to use the random.org answer I mentioned earlier as the deciding factor.

You, sir, are a lifesaver! With that we are officially done as far as volunteering goes.

This will also mark the first time two films have shared the same subset day. And yes, it still only requires watching one of those to complete the subset. I'll be sure to include that info in the actual thread.

I was going to ask which two movies you went with, but I went ahead and looked.

Phibes actually works out well since some of us use October 25 as "Vincent Price Memorial Day" (he died Oct. 25, 1993), and I watched The Blood Spattered Bride last year, so I can just watch I Dismember Mama by itself (now that I've finally found a copy).

Oh, and I vote for Eating Raoul, because I haven't seen it in over 20 years but I watched Bucket of Blood not too long ago.

While re-organizing my collection I pulled out 20 horror films I haven't watched yet. That'll provide a nice start to the month.

The amazing Spider-Man posted acknowledge it was a stretch and used a wildcard, it was a seemingly fair call given the nature of wildcards. No one honestly though Spider-man was horror.

Ultimately people should just watch whatever they think is "horror."

When I was collecting lists for that 'top 1000 canonical horror films list', I came across at least 4-5 lists/articles where people were including The Sound of Music as a horror film.

+1 for Bucket of Blood, if only because I always considered Eating Raoul more of a pulpy crime comedy than a horror movie.

So as long as the movie as horror as genre on imdb or allmovie it counts. For instance Young Frankenstein, imdb has it only as comedy, but allmovie has it as horror comedy under subgenre.

If you have to ask it's probably not horror is a good rule of thumb.

However, some people have had nostalgic Halloween themed kid shows listed and I'd personally argue that seasonal content specific to Halloween count even if not "horror."

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Speaking of the horror 4 packs found at Wal-mart. The Zombies collection contains a widescreen version of the theatrical version of Land of the Dead! It was previously only available in pan and scan on dvd, while the unrated version was in widescreen, and only the unrated was issued on blu-ray.

I think the pacing is much better in the R version than unrated. So I'm glad a widescreen version finally exists. I just watched it tonight after having not seen it in years, and still enjoyed it like I did in theaters. I was not as into the unrated version, mainly because of the pacing being thrown off drastically by one additional unneeded scene and another scene extended past the already well paced theatrical version and thus making an originally fun sequence drag.

This is exactly right. It all kind of reminds me of bad Scrabble players trying to justify words that shouldn't count. Instead of an approved dictionary, we have IMdB and AllMovie tags. This challenge is like a game, so there do need to be rules. It's a challenge and that's part of the fun.

I dont think Halloween themed shows are a problem. If they are obviously Halloween Themed and not just taking place in October.

As for ASM, that was more then a stretch. All the wildcards couldnt convince me thats horror. I agree if its not on IMDB or All movies then it shouldnt count. There is a difference between Horrific and Horror. I can argue that Pulp Fiction, Castaway and Shindler's list are all horror films based on the horrible things in them.

I plan to watch my Halloween themed Three Stooges shorts, but list them as not counted as I don't have enough shorts to make a full entry.

Combine them with something else, like The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, a perennial event chez Gobear, or a Treehouse of Horror or two. I hope to watch at least 50 titles this month.

I'm excited, my Vincent Price vol II blu ray is arriving today. I like this early release thing Shout has going on their website.

With all these box sets being released recently, that would make for some good marathon viewing. Just the recent franchise releases of Halloween, F13, Leprechaun, Saw, Exorcist, NOES, Amityville and Chucky gives you 55 movies. Anyone considering tackling them all? I'm tempted to do at least a few.
