Looney Tunes Golden v.s. Platinum

Different shorts on each set?

What's the deal with hi-def only release for some platinum's?

If I buy the Golden DVD's will I get burned by a hi-def release soon?

Re: Looney Tunes Golden v.s. Platinum

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/619...st-2014-a.html suggests that Platinum Collection 3 will be the last of the series. Personally, I never cared for the Platinums' mostly double-dip philosophy and deeply wish Platinum #1 had been a high-def version of a theoretical Golden #7, with separate Blu-Ray Premiere Collections for retreading old ground. So many great shorts remain unreleased, like Daffy Doodles and Hare Lift, and a few I'd like to see again like "The Hen-Pecked Duck" and "Porky's Picnic". Without checking the reviews, I believe Platinum #2 has the most material previously unreleased to digital media, roughly a dozen shorts, not counting the SD and unrestored Tex Avery MGM shorts.

IMHO, if HD is most important then start with the Platinum sets...but you're eventually going to want them all. HD only Platinums? Both current Blu-Ray Platinum sets have DVD counterparts, but with some material left out. I thought the Platinum sets were originally intended to be Blu-Ray only, but WB caved to pressure. You might chalk up the differences to either WB's marketing department not wanting to completely undercut the Blu-Ray versions, or the producer wanting to stay within a reasonable disk count.

Hope that helps.
