I used to like to mix it up a bit and keep 2-3 half hour and 1-2 hour series in progress at any given time. I'd watch a episode or two of one and then put in another but it became harder and harder to keep up with where I was in a season. Then there's the problem with some discs having so much junk that's difficult/impossible to skip which slows down disc swapping so I started watching full disks at a time. Frequently I'll watch a entire season of a program before putting in something different.

If a series has a continuing plot line I find it hard to put another one in for viewing and will tend to watch the entire series, or at least all I own, before moving on. That's *really* hard to do for some series due to length. I recently did a blind buy purchase of Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1 and enjoyed it so much I purchased the rest of the series. Yes you read that correctly, I've never seen the show before. I'm tempted to watch the rest (S2-finish) but it would probably take at all month for just that one series and I have so much other stuff I want to watch first.

I like to mix it up cause I get burnt out too easily if I focus too long on any one series.

Checklists are always optional in any challenge. What I'm trying to find out is, does anyone even care to use it, and if so, what modifications would they like to see made to it so that it's more beneficial to them? As host, I'm happy to oblige as many participants as we can, but I'm also in favor of keeping things streamlined.

So far, there's been indifference at best, and the only modification suggestion has been a secondhand remembrance that someone previously suggested adding a cooking show to the list. It's still early, though, and I'm happy to consider any and all input into the matter.

I've heard about the ones after the big box set, but I'm more concerned about finishing what I have! :) Eventually, once I watch these and as long as the show holds up, I'll add those to the list of things I need to get, but for now, I'm going to focus on just watching this set!

I've thought about watching a disc at a time but have not followed through with that. I do have DVD Profiler which would help me keep track of what I've watched and not watched at a disc level... I don't know how you remember which episodes you watched on a disc! I'd watch one or two, then put it away for a year and then have to watch them all over again!

I guess my real question is, what will it hurt to have a checklist in the opening post under a spoiler? Is there a space limit I'm not aware of? It does sound like people are kind of wishy washy on the subject (myself included) though I don't think anyone is for directly getting rid of the check list all together. Why not keep it, state that it's optional (which it already is) and that it's there to help give people who DO want a checklist a guide to start with and that if you are using one, you can modify it all that you want.

I enjoyed doing one last year. It helped me get into the challenge. I just don't think I'm going to do one this year as I'm going to focus on a specific show that wouldn't give me the broad range needed for the checklist. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be up to doing one next year, though. Overall, I enjoy checklists. They give me incentive to watch something I would never usually watch.

That being said, I'm not going to cry is this one goes away, but I'm not seeing a super good reason for it to do so.

My method is *very* low tech. A sticky note and a fine point sharpie. If a disc is in its own holder I put the stickie note on the outside and use hashmarks to indicate watching an episode. If there are 2 or more discs in a case or it's a digipak I indicate the disk # on the sticky note before the hashmarks. When the number of hashmarks matches the number of episodes on the disc I know it's time to get out the next, mark out the disk #/hashmarks, and start over. When the sticky note is full, get out a new one. The series I'm currently watching have a special place in the entertainment center so I know they are in progress. Even if I don't watch for days/weeks/months/years, once started the series/season stays in that location until I'm 100% done. If the location fills up I finish something to make room before starting a new one.

Hey, if it works, why not? :) And you'll never worry about losing your information in a crash-well, maybe if the sticky part wears off!

I use DVD Profiler, and when I watch something, I make a note of the episode(s) viewed when I log it. It requires minimal effort since I'm marking off the viewing anyway, and it's quite handy. To wit: it's how I knew where I left off on She-Ra, Princess of Power Season One, Volume Two after nearly a year!

I keep track of which episodes I watch with an Excel spreadsheet. Ever year I start a new workbook and have simple info: date watched / show title / episode / broadcast date. It not only helps me remember where I am, but also lets me see what my viewing patterns are. Some of my friends make fun of me for my spreadsheets (I keep track of films as well), but it actually helps me quite a bit.

I have DVD Profiler as well, but have to run it via Bootcamp (Mac user) so it's a hassle to update it ever time I watch something since I have to log off and restart my computer.

I recently noticed something similar with Movie Collectorz. You can add discs to a set along with each episode on that disc and if you've watched them or not.

I've recently been rewatching Ancient Aliens off and on and have made it up to season 3. I also recently bought season 4 just last month in preparation for this challenge. A couple other things that caught my eye are that Armored Fleet Darigger XV is no longer out of print according to Amazon as I only have volume 1, and while going to the DVD Talk forum I saw Danguard Ace on the new DVD side one day.

You may want to give VirtualBox a look/see. If you don't do any "heavy duty" stuff on the Windows partition it's worth checking out. It's a free virtual machine system that works quite well on the Macs. You can start a virtual machine (Windows or Linux) and run it full screen or windowed. It makes use of all hardware and allows use of USB devices on the Windows VM. The other techs in my office use it for Windows AD management on their Mac Airs - I use VMWare Fusion because I got a free copy otherwise I'd be using VirtualBox myself. I do so much MS work that I rarely leave the VM (but I absolutely do not like OSX in any flavor so...).

A couple years ago, I had a glitch where I temporarily lost my DVD Profiler library. I was able to recovery it, but it freaked me out enough that I created a spreadsheet in Google Docs. Originally, it was just to track each title, but it evolved to include each episode of a TV show, each short film, or other noteworthy bonus feature. I also created a different tab for my music library (presently only by album; not by song), comic books, and video games.

I had to zoom to 67% to fit it all on the screen, and I've hidden some columns, but here's the basic overview. Typically, columns K-V are hidden, unless I'm adding or updating an entry. Originally, I had movies and TV shows in separate sheets, but there were enough TV show episodes included as bonus features on discs of movies that I decided it was easier just to consolidate them.

At the top of the page, you'll see Field of Dreams, where I have also listed the episode of From Page to Screen dedicated to it that's on the DVD as a bonus feature. Note that its Orig Date field is empty, owing to my inability to find its original broadcast date.

At the bottom of the page you'll see The 4400 - The Complete First Season (I alphabetize numeric titles phonetically).

I've thought about creating columns for DVD Talk Challenge eligibility, but my library is so streamlined after this year's audit that I pretty well already know everything I have.

I never used to care much for Star Trek Enterprise, but from the episodes I've seen on the Star Trek Fan Collectives, maybe those are better episodes, but the show is starting to grow on me.

Travis, your spreadsheet looks amazing! Mine is very basic, and I'm thinking of making it even more basic (leaving off the actors) since I use DVD Profiler to look up most of that info or search my collection by actor.

I'm already gearing up for the challenge by watching some of the sets I'm close to completing. Finished The Addams Family series a couple days ago, and I'm planning to finish up the second season of Dirty Sexy Money and the first season of Supernatural so that I can start new stuff in January.

The Addams Family is the second 60s sitcom I've marathoned recently. I watched three seasons of The Dick Van Dyke Show for the comedy challenge. Both are excellent, with the latter being a timeless classic and the former just good (oft-times repetitive) fun. My continued love for both shows makes me want to check out the other shows I watched on Nike at Nite as a kid/teenager. I haven't seen The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, or The Jeffersons in a long, long time. Hopefully, they are also just as good as I remember.

The series certainly gets better as time goes on but you have to be really patient and there are some real clunkers that make you wonder what the hell the writers were thinking.

I never watched it in syndication other than a odd episode here and there. A few years ago I purchased the entire series and started "cold". Other than the cheesy theme song I found I really like the series. At this point I have S3 & S4 I've yet to watch and since I didn't make time for it during the SF Challenge am looking hard at finishing it in January.

Because I've not been in much of a Holiday film watching mood I started watching the last couple of seasons of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. I'm glad I did as I found my S3 set had *2* copies of Disc 1 and *no* copies of Disc 3. The replacement set arrived last night so I'll finish S3 tonight.

I should watch these myself. I inherited the entire series from my Dad when he passed away but haven't watched them. I've enjoyed all the series but have heard some bad things about this one. But, after watching season 3 of TOS, I've found I have a pretty high tolerance for Star Trek clunkers. :)

Well, another one to put on the to watch soon list!

That was what I was going to say. I am largely undecided on whether I'll have the time to tick things off, but I usually use it as a starting point. What harm to leave it as an option?

Added to which, I remember last year that it was in pretty good and varied shape, so I don't think (m)any changes are necessary.

Found a site to stream Justice League and Justice League Unlimited legitimately as my Netflix account is temporarily on hold. Watchcartoonsonline.com. I purchased The Land of the Giants on a Amazon LD and S3-S7 of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which completes my set, *finally* shipped from foxconnect and should arrive tomorrow. I can't decide if I want to start with S3 & S4 of Enterprise to get that one finished or go with one of those. Then there's that The Man From U.N.C.L.E. set I purchased some time back I really want to watch. I'd purchased S1 separately and watched that about 6 months before I got a *great* deal on the full series. I've held off on it because I wanted to start over with S1 and wanted to wait a sufficient time so it wouldn't be so fresh in my mind.

I finished all but 1 episode of S3 of Dobie Gillis before leaving town to meet my new grandson (Born 12/13/13 @ 12:53pm - 9lb. 8oz., 20 1/4" long). I'll finish that one and move on to S4 when I get back home in a few days.

Going to try to get through a lot of Wagon Train. Been stuck on S2 for a while, but been itching to watch it. Only 29 Episodes left of Quincy, M.E.. Not sure if i can get that done lol been slowly making my way through the series, but the last season or so(S7) hasn't been that great.

On S2 of the Virginian, but want to at least finish that one. Only 11 left, but its an 1hr and 30min per episode so, it will be tough. Just started Falcon Crest and want to get through S1

For keeping track on what episode i watch, i use tvQ, an app for the iphone. Works great and syncs with trakt.tv

I have the Land of the Giants series set, but somewhere along the line I lost one of the disc cases so I'm missing two discs out of the entire series. Still 8 episodes out of 2 seasons missing isn't too bad I suppose.
