Fingerprints on DVDs?
 

A good friend just bought a large flatscreen and Blu-Ray player and asked to borrow a few discs. I told him I was very picky but just be careful with my Blu-Rays.

When I got them back - fortunately no scratches but a few have his fingerprints.

What is the best way to wipe them off?

I'm confused. Your thread title says the problem is fingerprints. I came here prepared to deal with that, not Blu-rays.

And microfiber cloth.

Windex and a kleenex usually works for me.

A microfiber has always worked well.

I had someone say they take good care of their CD's DVD's and then I see the cases look horrible and the discs covered in finger prints. That't not my idea of good care. (I hate finger prints)

Microfibre cloth and rubbing alcohol if the cloth isn't enough.

Yeah. I was going through some of my discs and found some with fingerprints. Just by chance, I had an old, but unused microfiber jewelry polishing cloth nearby. This works really well, I've found.

Windex and/or plain water and a soft cloth is safe. ..Lots of BAD information on the internet Llike toothpaste to remove scratches. ..And your disc will never play again. ..I've fixed hundreds of scratched "freezing" discs with Meguiar's "PlastX". ...Anything more abrasive will usually ruin the disc. ..Finger prints are no biggie. ..I just let my dog lick them. ..He loves DVDs.

This is what I use to clean Redbox and Netflix rentals, and used discs that I buy. I go with 91% ispropyl alcohol, and I keep it in a mister so that I can lightly coat the entire disc. Works like a charm.

don't be hasty removing the prints. try to lift them off using scotch tape. if your friend has a secret lair that can only be accessed using his prints, you can now get in there and stick your hands all over his stuff. see how he likes it.

just thinking of someone's grubby hands all over my discs is giving me douche chills.

I just leave them be. Afraid of doing more harm than good. As long as they're not impacting playback (which I've never found fingerprints to do), I put the DVD back in its case and go on with my day.

Plain water works for me everytime. Alcohol might be okay (I've used it, too), but since it is a solvent, I would probably recommend rinsing with water immediately after. And then thoroughly dry it, because, depending on your local water source, could leave water spots upon drying, which defeats the whole purpose.

Alcohol works for me, too. Enough chugs and you'll forget all about those silly fingerprints.
