That's a great movie that I wish was on dvd. Thanks for pointing out that it's on Youtube. There's another movie called Into the Badlands with Bruce Dern that makes for good double-feature with that. I didn't even know it was a horror movie until I started watching it. Only recently found out it's on dvd too.

Severance is such a mediocre film that I want to be better than it is.
I second the idea on voting to re-use theme night favorites. Good suggestion here.
...it might be cool to vote on everyone's favorite theme nights from the past challenges and maybe include the top ten (or five) in next year's challenge. There have been so many great ones. I know we've talked about not repeating, but it seems like it would be fun to see how that broke down even if we didn't use it.

I agree with doing a Top 5 as well. Yesterday's theme was awful because going off of IMDb, I couldn't find really anything on Netflix to watch. That was easily my least favorite theme night so far.

Thank God it's Friday! With work piling up and other obligations, I'm barely able to squeeze in four a day most weekdays; not to mention getting behind in this thread. And catching up in here is the equivalent of trying to hop a Japanese bullet train.
Speaking of the Japanese, just when I thought they couldn't get any weirder, well, they surpassed my expectations with Attack Girls' Swim Team vs the Undead this morning. It's the only film I can recall that suddenly decides it wants to switch gears temporarily and become a softcore Skinemax (R.I.P.) flick. Unfortunately it just gets lazy and fails miserably in the zombie department.
Next up is my last unseen Karloff (and Michael Reeves) film - The Sorcerers.
I caught Grim Prairie Tales: Hit the Trail... to Terror yesterday. The tales themselves were almost overshadowed by the great banter between James Earle Jones and Brad Dourif. Unfortunately the quality was atrocious and couldn't make out what was happening in the second story until hearing the daughter explain it. Otherwise a great discovery that needs a proper release.
That's an excellent suggestion. Of course technically it won't be 10 years until 2015 (OHMC11), but close enough, right? It's 10 challenges and the significance lies in that number when dealing with anniversaries, so moot point.

Just was watching it without having planned to because I did check it out for the 2009 challenge. Couldn't help but get hooked again.

Chad, I thought since next year is the tenth anniversary of the challenge, it might be cool to vote on everyone's favorite theme nights from the past challenges and maybe include the top ten (or five) in next year's challenge. Today's deals at Shout/Scream Factory are The Island and Death Valley, both for $14.99. I haven't seen either one of them and wanted to get some opinions from anyone here who has seen them. Either one (or both) worth a blind buy?

Just to clarify, $14.99 each. I didn't read all the way to the end sentence the first time... I also haven't seen them. They look interesting.

I posted this in the Killer Tongue thread but thought I might get more response here:
So, who uses VeeHD? The site seems really sketchy with the stuff it wants me to download. It required me to install a player to watch the video. I didn't let the installation complete to watch the movie and said no to all the software it asked me if I wanted to install, but it installed a toolbar I didn't want anyway and changed my homepage and default search options. I decided not to install it when I reached the part of the download where it said it would track all my social media and online activity, including things that most sites try to make private, and transactions, even incomplete ones, made online. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I wanted to hear what others' experiences were with the site. Or maybe there is somewhere else this could be streamed ...
Yes, if I wasn't clear, each movie is $14.99. http://www.shoutfactory.com/ThePriceIsFrightSale

[QUOTE=Dick Laurent;11868947]That's a great idea for a watch. I have it on HD DVD, hadn't seen it yet. Is it horror enough? As in does the time drag on in police procedural or does it move quick and horrific? That's a long runtime to dedicate to.

It centered a lot on a newspaper reporters search for the Zodiac Killer, complete with mysterious phone calls, etc.

All right, I've given up trying to view Killer Tongue on VeeHD. I'll watch it by other means. I hope I'm the only one who has an issue, but I would just encourage anyone who wants to view it on VeeHD to use caution.

I've always been leery of websites that want me to download something of theirs. Sure you can say I have trust issues .
Ok on another note I had watched movies on youtube earlier, and it seems like there have been several copyright issues , so they have been taken down. Get what viewings you can while you can from youtube before it all gets taken down......yes I'm aware that some have been posted legitimately ...just that it seems like a lot have been in violation. Just wanted to let everyone know

I ended up having to remove toolbars and change back search and homepage settings on all three browsers I have installed. Maybe I agreed to something without realizing. I don't think so but maybe. Like I said, I hope it won't affect anyone else. I just figured I would warn everyone.

Apparently there is some way to watch VeeND without the plugin but it's not clear to me... YouTube has directions, if they are to be believed.

A lack of a good night's sleep caught with me up tonight, and I was only able to watch a couple of movies. Thankfully, I've got a couple of short days at work and some vacation time coming up. We're only 11 days into the month and I'm already scrambling to watch all the stuff I want to squeeze in, haha.

Watched Highway to Hell (1991). A teenager travels to Hell to rescue his sweetheart after she's been abducted by Hellcop to be Satan's next conquest. Hold's up nicely after all these years. Not particularly scary, even for a comedy, but it is full of grotesqueries. And who wouldn't brave Hell for Kristy Swanson circa 1991?

If you get round to doing a list & availability, do post it here, please.
I've tried to do it in the past and given up at least once... I began by getting confused about who'd released what, and ended up getting annoyed by Warner Bros. (and myself) for there being three different box-released versions of several, and no releases of others... Taste the Blood of Dracula and Horror of Frankenstein, for instance. I have several copies of each, but none of most of the other Frankensteins.

Dracula
Dracula (also known as Horror Of Dracula)
The Brides Of Dracula
Dracula: Prince Of Darkness
Dracula Has Risen From The Grave
Taste The Blood Of Dracula
Scars Of Dracula
Dracula A.D. 1972
The Satanic Rites Of Dracula
The Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires
Get:
4 Film Favorites: Draculas (Dracula A.D. 1972, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, Horror of Dracula, Taste the Blood of Dracula) (2007) from Warner Brothers
Hammer Horror Series (Brides of Dracula / Curse of the Werewolf / Phantom of the Opera (1962) / Paranoiac / Kiss of the Vampire / Nightmare / Night Creatures / Evil of Frankenstein) (1960) from Universal
Hammer Horror Collection (3 Film Set) from Millenium
Scars Of Dracula from Lionsgate (this is a MOD release from Amazon)
There are several releases of Satanic Rites Of Dracula, not all of them good. The one that I have is in a double feature with Dracula Prince Of Darkness, but it's out of print. Echo Bridge seems to have a release out that is 1:85 and there's another release that is in a double feature with Horror Express. I don't know how the quality is on those two releases.
That covers all of the Hammer Dracula movies.
Frankenstein
The Curse Of Frankenstein
The Revenge Of Frankenstein
The Evil Of Frankenstein
Frankenstein Created Woman
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
The Horror Of Frankenstein
Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell
The cheapest way on Amazon to get Curse Of Frankenstein is in a double feature with Taste The Blood Of Dracula. You can also get is separately though it seems to be out of print, or in a four film set but that has two of the Dracula movies which are included in the 4 film favorites Dracula set.
I have the solo release of Revenge Of Frankenstein, but there is a four film pack that is a little cheaper which includes Revenge Of Frankenstein, Return Of The Vampire, Mr. Sardonicus, and Brotherhood Of Satan. I say for $5.49 go this route.
You'll need the Hammer Horror set from Universal for Evil Of Frankenstein.
The Hammer Horror Collection from Millennium has Frankenstein Created Woman.
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed can be bought separately, but appears to be out of print. It's also in that set that has two of the Dracula movies and another Frankenstein movie.
The Horror Of Frankenstein is out of print for Region 1 users and used copies are going for a lot. However, last year I did manage to find a new copy for about $15. I don't know why this hasn't gotten a MOD release from Amazon like Scars Of Dracula and other Hammer releases have. I can't really tell you what to do with this other than go region free, wait for a better price, or be prepared to spend a lot of money if you buy it right now.
Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell's original release from Paramount is out of print but can be found used for prices that aren't horrible. Warner is distributing a lot of Paramount's titles now and this is available from the Warner Archive. On Amazon's website this isn't cheap, but WBShop which is now safe to use again according to WBShop themselves might have a good deal on this title. The choice is yours, but there are those that hate DVD-Rs, so if that includes you then buy the Paramount release.
That covers all of the Hammer Frankenstein movies. And if you want to go a little further there was pilot for a Hammer Frankenstein show that didn't get picked up. One place you can get is in the Classic Sci-Fi TV collection from Mill Creek. Wait until that goes down to about $10 or so.
The Mummy
The Mummy
The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb
The Mummy's Shroud
Blood From The Mummy's Tomb
Buy The Mummy separately.
For The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb get Icons of Horror Collection: Hammer Films from Sony.
The Mummy's Shroud is out of print. The cheapest I see this right now from Amazon is a used copy of just this movie, but there's also a double feature it's in with The Plague Of The Zombies, which I happen to have. It wasn't cheap then because it was out of print, and now it's still out of print and costs even more.
Blood From The Mummy's Tomb has a MOD release from Amazon, which is the one I have.
That does it for the Mummy Hammer movies.

Over the past few days I watched The Mist black and white version which a great and now has me wanting to read the story Stephen King wrote. It's my understanding that the ending is different, which
I also watched Brides Of Dracula which was a good movie but shouldn't have Dracula in the title and The Curse Of The Werewolf which was good too. The Phantom Of The Opera is on the other side of the disc but I want to watch the earlier versions before getting to the Hammer version. Next I will be watching the original Haunting.

Watched two horror comedies tonight. Hotel Transylvania and Killer Tomatoes Strike Back. Nod goes to... Gonna have to say... Tomatoes! HT was good, but I'm tired of the "overprotective parents learn lesson" theme of so many of these kids shows. KTSB was ridiculous, but at least aimed at adults with no moral to the story.

I watched John Carpenter's The Fog on Blu-Ray tonight. It was amazing seeing this film in the best presentation I've ever seen it in. I noticed some things I never noticed previously. The transfer is beautiful and excellent, and those nit-pickers at blu-ray.com are insane to think this transfer was 'bad' and 'too dark' among other things. I could see the image clearly and it's not like Alien Vs Predator: Requiem where you can't see anything at all.
So I highly recommend the Shout/Scream Factory release of the film. Don't let the naysayers of the transfer hold you back, they have no idea what they're talking about.

Encountered my first (And, hopefully, last) wildcard of the challenge, King of the Ants. I thought that the title, the cover, and the director was a no-brainer for it being horror...Oops. It did have a few horror-esque moments---And I did like the movie---It's just that my method of going into most movies cold backfired here. This was a case where I should've done more info-searching first. Ah well.
About to check out TCM's horror double-header (As soon as The Haunting Ends)
Edit-If I'm still up tonight, I'll get to Freddie Francis' Doctor & The Devils. Really gotta get to work on the director checklist.

Meeting Barbara Crampton was amazing, as was the 'Re-Animator' (1985) screening before it. The Q&A was also great, minus some Horror dorks trying too hard to sound 'cool'.
I got my 'Chopping Mall' (1986) and 'Re-Animator' (1985) DVDs signed as well. Barbara was an absolute joy to meet and was extremely nice/friendly.

Just watched Texas Chainsaw 3D. Thumbs down from me (I'm kind of with the DVDTalk review on this one). Has a few moments and ok shots. But filled with stupid characters, stupid dialog, and abandoned plot threads. When a film doesn't care enough to take out blatant anachronisms and continuity errors, it really pulls me out of things. Though if you're dying to see repeated 3D shots of a chainsaw coming at you, this might be the movie for you.
