So put on Little Shop of Horrors but when I checked on IMDb, the original isn't listed as horror. Quite surprising and disappointing as it is a plant that eats people. Yes, I see it as a comedy, but more of a comedy horror.

Now onto Dead Hooker in a Trunk. Never got around to finishing it before. Met the Soska Sisters at a Florida convention I worked and they are really sweet and down to earth. This movie, though, just kind of hard to get through being that I am a Christian and the religious characters just make me wanna gag. American Mary was really good and I cannot wait to see See No Evil 2. But the first half of the movie is just so hard to watch. They are hot, though.

Wow... The Possession (2012) really works. I initially dismissed it as just another PG-13 throwaway but despite some familiar elements it's a lot of fun; like a modern jewish Amityville Horror with actual creepiness and good tension. Kudos to ntnon for the subset pick.

Cool reviews! Some of the cover art made me giggle - especially The Haunted Casino. I completely agree with your assessment of Black Sabbath; this was my first viewing, and I absolutely loved it!

Today, I started season one of Supernatural and rewatched the first two episodes. I really like the sporadic episodes I've seen so I'm excited to start from the beginning. The first episodes start off with a bang, presenting us with a murderous ghost and a woodland creature from Hell. I would have liked to get bit more of an introduction to the characters, but what we get is pretty effective.

From original post:

TV shows count according to length as they're aired on TV (including commercials):

30 minute shows = ¼ an entry
1 hour shows = ½ an entry
90 minute shows = ¾ an entry
2 hour shows = 1 entry

^ ah gotcha - thanks.

I don't get the whole 'including commercials' part - since a majority of what I'd like to watch would be off of DVD, bluray and/or youtube.

I asked for clarification and you can factor the commercial time in even if you're not actually watching them. So you can watch 2 episodes of the Walking Dead and have it count as a 2 hour movie, even though it only adds up to 90 minutes if you're not watching the commercials.

Anyone seen Greystone Park? The story is good, if you like those documentary based on true stories movies, but the filming and delivery is just garbage. Way too damn dark and too many random flashes that remind me of a Rob Zombie film (one of the few things I don't like about his films). Sadly still got 30 minutes left of this.

That's why you should check other "authorized" sources as well since none are 100% accurate. Allmovie.com lists it as Horror with sub-genres of Comedy-Horror, Natural Horror, and Satire. It counts.

Thanks. Wasn't sure what other sources we use. I noticed it was on a horror movie pack I own as well as the drive-in collection I was watching. Going to finish the movie and count it, then.

For today's theme, I notice It is named on the list, but didn't see Rose Red. Is Rose Red a Made for TV movie and if so, since it is something like 4 hours long, does it count as 2 movies? I've seen It but haven't seen Rose Red so would love to watch Red if it counts.

Doing the count including commercial material helps eliminate questions about length. If it was stated "2 hours of TV content count as 1 film" people would be asking "I watched 2 episodes of XX on DVD and it was 82 minutes. Does it count?" By saying "with commercials" it standardizes things without getting technical over the actual program run time. Typically a hour TV program *without commercials* has a run time of 40-55 minutes and a half-hour program has a run time of 19-25 minutes (length generally depends the on decade produced/aired). Essentially, 2 hours of TV material "as originally aired" (i.e. with commercials) has a program run time of 76-110 minutes which is generally equal to the run time of most movies.

Sources are listed in post one of this thread, the first discussion thread, and the list thread.

For Rose Red:

From IMDB: "TV mini-series" with Horror listed in the genre.

From post #1 on TV content: Mini-Series = 1 entry for each day it aired

IMDB shows it as "4 parts" but it actually aired over 3 nights so it would count as 3 entries.

Must have missed the sources part. There's a lot of info on the first page.

Glad Rose Red counts. Wasn't sure if this theme was just for movies or people are going to allow "TV mini-series" with this theme. I say that because I've seen some arguments on all kinds of crazy things here. Nice to know it counts as 3 entries as well. That's going to be a nice bonus as that could be my day's worth of films right there.

Watched Schizoid last night with Klaus Kinski. Not bad. Not great either but....Kinski!

Also, a friend of mine pointed our Room 237 is on netflix right now. I assume being a doc on a horror movie this would count.

I watched Danielle Harris' Among Friends last night. Meh. I wish I'd have rented it rather than buying it blind. I'm not sure when Jennifer Blanc started popping up everywhere, but man, she's terrible. I see on IMDB that she seems to have a metric fuckton of projects due out in the near future. Ugh.

I also managed to polish off one of my oldest unwatched titles, The Bone Snatcher. It was alright, just a cheesy B-movie set in the Nambian deserts. Nothing that I will probably ever watch again. Honestly though, according to Amazon, the original release date was December of 2003. That is probably right around the time I bought it, as I bought everything brand new back then. Damn near 10 years without being watched, lol.

After a slow start on Sept 30, I managed to squeeze in 3 movies last night, so made up for my slow start. I attempted to make it 4 last night as I saw 976-EVIL was on Encore Action, but I felt myself fading fast about halfway through the movie, so turned it off and went to bed.

I feel your pain. I watched two movies and, around 11:00 p.m., put in the third one, THE ATOMIC BRAIN. The quality of the DVD was atrocious. While the plot was engaging (though incredibly goofy), I started nodding off about 15 minutes in, and I ended up going to bed shortly thereafter. THE ATOMIC BRAIN will have to wait.

DDecided to begin the challenge on a strong note with one of my personal favorites, Jack's Back (1988). Such a great, underrated film with an interesting mystery at it's core and solid performances from James Spader and the luscious Cynthia Gibb. Special mention to the film's terrific opening credits song, Red Harvest.

Followed up with a first-time viewing of Ruggero Deodato's silly killer telephone flick, Dial Help (1988). Probably the only film where someone is killed via payphone coins. We even get a telephone POV shot as a phone sneaks up some stairs. Charlotte Lewis is an attractive lead, and there are some nice scenes where she's being hypnotized into seduction by the haunted phones. An absurd film, but way more entertaining than Deodato's awful attempt at a slasher, Body Count.

After that, I revisited two more faves in Violent Midnight (1963) and Transformations (1988), the latter starring one of my favorite scream queens, Lisa Langlois.

Today, I've gotten to three TV films so far. The Stranger Within (1974) was a decent adaptation of a Richard Matheson story. It sort of drags at times, but it's an interesting watch. Better was Satan's Triangle (1975), an eerie Bermuda Triangle-based chiller told mainly through flashback. There's a nice sense of dread throughout this one, and it culminates in a particularly memorable ending. Speaking of dread, I revisited another personal favorite for my third TV movie of the day, Mysterious Two (1982), a fascinating gem inspired by the Heaven's Gate cult. From Gary Sherman, this has an unsettling mood similar to that of the director's Dead & Buried. Still one of the best TV films I've seen.

I loved the first, but this one disappointed me. It took the Collector character in a direction I didn't care for, and the obvious recast really hurt it. It also felt a lot cheaper to me despite having a higher budget.

I decided to knock out a 4 episode DVD of Goosebumps for the Made-For-TV theme of the day... I was hoping it'd be nostalgic and fun from when I was a kid but it is painful.

I think I've had my unwatched copy that long as well. Thought about watching it this month but perhaps it can wait for it's 25th anniversary.

Just had my first bizarre coincidence of the Challenge. Last night as we went to bed I squeezed in one last film of the day with one of the Nightmare on Elm Street films. Those films always mess up my sleep/dreams, so I had trouble falling and staying asleep. Finally decide to watch another film around 0430, decide to make it the subset choice of the new day, and what do you know, a perfect segue-way from Nightmare to Don't Go To Sleep.

Discussion thread on today's subset choice
