Brian's Multi-Media Horror Challenge List

+ = first time viewing
Movies (all my movie ratings are out of 5 stars):
+1. Murder Party (2007 - DVD - Netflix - ****): Great no-budget movie with a lot of humor and some decent gore for what little money they had. Very enjoyable and highly recommended!
+2. Don't Go To Sleep (1982 - streaming - Youtube - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
3. An American Werewolf In London (1981 - BD - own it - *****): What can be said about this movie that already hasn't? Best werewolf movie ever!
+4. The Reef (2010 - streaming - Netflix - ****1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+5. Hausu (aka "House" - 1977 - BD - Netflix - ***1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
6. Friday The 13th (1980 - BD - own it - *****): I never get tired of this movie. Have seen it dozens of times and love it.
+7. American Mary (2012 - streaming - Netflix - ****): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+8. Night Of The Living Dead 3D (2006 - DVD 2D version - Netflix - *1/2): Um...why? Terrible "remake" that was more of a different story with bad acting, bad effects, bad script, bad everything.
+9. World War Z (2013 - BD - Redbox - **1/2): This movie has been done before and much better. See 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later instead.
+10. The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976 - streaming - Redbox Instant - *1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+11. The Lords Of Salem (2012 - BD - Netflix - **): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+12. The Night Of The Werewolf (1980 - BD - Netflix - **1/2): Spanish werewolf vs. vampire film! Sound more exciting than it is. Some beautiful women though and old school effects make this one worth checking out for fans of the above.
+13. Bloody Bloody Bible Camp (2012 - streaming - Redbox Instant - ***): Part horror parody, this one is worth checking out. Some good laughs along with some gore and nudity. Better than I was expecting.
+14. Rammbock (2010 - streaming - Netflix - *****): Loved, loved, loved this. A way better zombie film than the big budget WWZ that I watched earlier.
15. Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981 - BD - own it - *****): The first FT13th I ever saw. Love this one even thought the prologue makes not logical sense.
16. Friday The 13th Part 3 (1982 - BD - own it - ***): Decent 3rd movie but the constant pointing things at the screen for 3D is distracting and annoying. Not enough blood or sexy women.
+17. Sinister (2012 - BD - Redbox - ****1/2): Extremely creepy movie had me in goose flesh for the majority of it. I would have edited the ending a little different but other than that, great movie!
+18. The Black Sleep (1956 - streaming - Netflix - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread
19. A Nightmare On Elm Steet (1984 - BD - own it - *****): The classic when Freddy was scary and not a comedian. The picture quality on the BD is excellent!
+20. Cruel World (2005 - BD - Netflix - 1/2): This could be the winner of the worst horror film I have watched this month. Good concept but horrible execution. Just terrible.
+21. The Lost Tribe (2010 - streaming - Netflix - **1/2): Ripoff of Predator that is just eh.
+22. V/H/S (2012 - DVR - Showtime - ****): Great compilation flick. But if you are prone to motion sickness, watch at your own risk!
+23. Shakma (1990 - streaming - Netflix - *1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+24. Killer Tongue (1996 - DVD - Netflix - **): see my thoughts in the review thread.
25. Return Of The Living Dead 3 (1993 - DVD - own it - ****1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+26. Eyes Of Fire (1983 - streaming - YouTube - *): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+27. Zombiethon (1986 - DVD, own it - **1/2): decent "greatest hits" movie with some bookends. The problem is the quality sucks and several of the half dozen films featured have BD releases now, which really makes the picture quality look like trash.
28. The Wicker Man: Extended Version (1973 - DVD - own it - ****1/2): Such a bizarre movie. Not really sure why it is considered horror since it seems more of a dramatic thriller but the soundtrack is so unusual. Not usually my kind of film but I love it.
29. Friday The 13th Part IV (1984 - BD - owner it - ****): A return to form after the disappointing Part III, but damn there are several obnoxious characters in this one.
30. Severance (2006 - streaming - Netflix - ****1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+31. Trilogy Of Terror (1973 - DVD - Netflix - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+32. Die (2010 - streaming - Netflix - ***): Kind of a cross between Se7en and Saw. Not the greatest but not terrible either.
+33. ParaNorman (2012 - streaming - Netflix - ****1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+34. Virgin Witch (1972 - streaming - Netflix - **1/2): The early 70's seemed obsessed with witchcraft and this one follows the standard stuff. The ebst part is there is nudity throughout. Hell, there is nudity in the opening credits!
35. A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 (1985 - BD - own it - ***1/2): I know this has become the "gay" Freddy movie but if you aren't looking for it, I doubt you will even notice it. It has some good gore and some effective scenes but it also contains some really stupid ones. Go in with a good attitude and just have fun with it.
36. Friday The 13th Part V (1985 - BD - own it - ***1/2): Some decent kills and bobbies but has an ending that bothers many fans. Didn't bug me since the entire concept of Jason is silly in the first place.
37. Friday The 13th Part VI (1986 - BD - own it - ****): Very enjoyable entry which brings Jason back with lots of interesting kills and some decent humor...but no nudity! WTF!
+38. Black Sabbath (1963 - streaming - Netflix - ***): see my thoughts in the review thread.
39. Jack Frost (1997 - streaming - Netflix - **): see my thoughts in the review thread.
40. The Burning (1981 - BD - own it - ****): Enjoyable Friday The 13th ripoff with several young recognizable faces and good effects.
+41. The Flesh And The Fiends (1960 - DVD - Netflix - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
42. Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1971 - DVD - Netflix - ***): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+43. The Caller (2011 - streaming - Netflix - ***1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+44: The Devil's Carnival (2012 - streaming - Netflix - *): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+45. John Dies At The End (2012 - streaming - Netflix - ****): see my thoughts in the review thread.
46. A Nightmare On Elm Street III (1987 - BD - own it - ****1/2): this is the best of all the true sequels to the first movie (New Nightmare doesn't really count as a sequel in my opinion).
+47. Vampires in Havana (1987 - streaming - Netflix - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+48. Curse Of Chucky (2013 - BD - Redbox - ***): I haven't watched a Chucky movie in many years. Now I know why. This seemed better than I remember the others but it is still nothing special. Not sure why these are so popular.
49. Friday The 13th Part VII (1988 - BD - own it - ***1/2): Dumb but still fun though the ending is beyond ridiculous, even for Jason standards.
+50. The Millennium Bug (2011 - DVD - Redbox - *1/2): Part monster movie, part TCM ripoff. Not enjoyable.
+51. Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated (2009 - DVD - Netflix - *1/2): Great concept, terrible delivery. I would like to personally shoot the editor who did this film. It had great potential but it is virtually unwatchable.
+52. In Their Skin (2012 - DVD - Netflix - ****1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+53. Grave Encounters (2011 - streaming - Netflix - ****): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+54. Scanners II (1991 - streaming - Xbox rental - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
55. Frailty (2002 - BD - own it - ***): You ever have a movie that seems to get worse with each viewing? This is one for me. I loved it the first time but with every subsequent viewing, the flaws show more and more.
+56. The Wicker Man (2006 - BD - Netflix - *): This movie is awful. Not even watching it as a comedy for Cage's acting could make me sit thru this again.
+57. The Wicker Tree (2011 - BD - Netflix - *): Horrible sequel to the original classic with horrible music and a horrible story. Why was this made?
58. Halloween III (1982 - BD - own it - **1/2): I bought this at the Shout sale because everyone seems to be giving it a pass these days. Well, I should have went with my original opinion...this movie is stupid in every way and it has nothing to do with the absence of a certain Michael Myers. Selling it as soon as I go thru the extras.
59. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993 - streaming - Netflix - **): See my thoughts in the review thread. Fuck Danny Elfman.
+60. The Depraved (2008 - DVD - Redbox - ***): Decent Hostel ripoff but the characters do such dumb shit and are so annoying that you are rooting for all of them to die asap.
+61. Pontypool (2008 - streaming - Netflix - **): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+62. Unlucky Charms (2013 - DVD - Redbox - *1/2): Terrible. Full Moon has to be the worst low budget studio out there.
+63. Skew (2011 - DVD - Redbox - *): One of the worst, if not the worst, "found footage" movie I have seen. Just unnecessary and bad in every way.
64. Scream (1996 - BD - own it - *****): see my thoughts in the review thread.
65. Mystery Of The Wax Museum (1933 - streaming - Youtube - **1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+66. The Possession (2012 - streaming - Netflix - ***): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+67. Frankenweenie (2012 - DVR - Starz - **): Great animation but the story is a bore. Humor falls flat and the emotion seems forced.
68. Psycho (1960 - BD - own it - *****): If I could give this movie 6 stars, I would. Fucking perfect!
69. Psycho II (1983 - BD - own it - ***1/2): Very enjoyable sequel to the perfect original. Anthony Perkins is the shit.
70. Psycho III (1986 - BD - own it - ****): see my thoughts in the review thread.
+71. Blood Diner (1987 - streaming - Youtube - ***1/2): see my thoughts in the review thread.

1. The Amityville Horror by Lalo Schifrin (CD - 2002 remake) - I have the original soundtrack on LP and this 2002 redo is surprisingly good.
2. Carrie by Pino Donaggio (CD) - Simply awesome.
3. Poltergeist by Jerry Goldsmith (MP3) - Such an effective score!
4. 28 Days Later by John Murphy (CD) - I also included "East Hastings" by Godspeed You Black Emperor! since it is used in the movie but not included on the soundtrack. Check it out if you haven't heard it.

6. Hausu (aka House) by Nobuhiko Ôbayashi’? (Youtube) - I really liked the score from watching the movie the first time. not sure who the composer is. Can't find it on CD anywhere though some sites say it was released a year or so ago. If you read this and know how to find a copy, please contact me. Thanks!
7. The Descent by David Julyan (CD) - Nice atmospheric soundtrack.
8. The Fog by John Carpenter (2 CDs - Expanded Edition) - I don't care for the movie but the soundtrack is great.

Re: The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Thread

Mrs. Beebs and I are back for another year of new and classic horror. I don't expect to make 100 this year, but should still do better than the last two years. Image above is a little homage to my past header images.

October 5th
001. Carrie [1976] This DePalma version from the 70s is a great movie. It is a little dated at times in how the movie is constructed and some of the music. But from mid-point on, this one is still an amazing horror movie.
002. Hellboy I love the light-hearted nature of the Hellboy movies. These are good fun. I saw this one originally in Gruman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA. World's Loudest Theater.
003. Hellboy 2 I hope they have a third entry in the franchise, because this one is as good as the second one. Excellent support cast, light-hearted action spectacle. Spectacular.

October 6th
004. Lost Boys This is such a flashback. Still, this one holds up well. It is not overly slick, which I think is a benefit to this movie. Movies from this period tend to be like extended music videos.
005. The Pact new! This is a new one. Spooky house story, with a genre mash-up twist in it. Nice mood and pacing. A suprise, really.
006. The Presence new! The best part about this one is the ghost-to-ghost banters and rules of haunting talk. Almost makes the movie. Almost.
007. American Psycho I love this movie, but not sure about the Genesis stuff. What's wrong with Invisible Touch? It's a masterpiece, everyone knows that. Best. Rock. Album. Ever.

October 8th
008. Sleepy Hollow S1E03/S1E04 new! Great new horror series. Love it so far.

October 10th
009. Simpsons Treehouse of Terror XXIII/XX/XXIV/Brooklyn 99 Halloween Episode new! Rounded out three new-to-me Simpson Treehouse episodes with a Brooklyn 99 Halloween episode. I really wish they put out a Treehouse collection, I would total snag it and marathon that stuff this time of year.

October 11th
010. Evil Dead [2013] new! I actually like what they did with this one. I prefer this one to the original, actually.
011. Cloverfield JJ Abrams monster destroys New York movie mashed up with a found footage tropes. I like it, it movies along quickly and has nice turns and twists along the way.

October 12th
012. Edward Scissorhands (at the drive-in) My local drive-in in Newberg, OR recently won a digital projection conversion from the Honda contest. Amazingly, they showed Edward Scissorhands this year during challenge... best drive-in revival yet. Saw Gremlins there in September, too early for the challenge... missed by a week. Darn.

October 13th
013. Walking Dead S3E1/S3E2 new! I've been holding off watching season three of the Walking Dead for this challenge. This season was excellent, and flew by.
014. Walking Dead S3E3/S3E4 new!
015. Walking Dead S3E5/S3E6 new!
016. Scream of Fear new!
017. The Factory [2012] new! Something of a yawner, Cusack's choice in scripts has descended dramatically in the last decade. It seems like since the The Raven a few years ago, he's taking just about anything Nick Cage didn't get to first.

October 18th
018. Walking Dead S3E7/S3E8 new!
019. Walking Dead S3E9/S3E10 new!
020. Walking Dead S3E11/S3E12 new!

October 19th
021. V/H/S new! New horror anthology. This installment is missing anyone you might care about.
022. The Caller new! Twisty little evil phone caller movie with some very nice fantastical touches.
023. Walking Dead S3E13/S3E14 new!
024. Walking Dead S3E15/S3E16 new!
025. X-Files Humbug/Clive Buchman's Final Repose - Some of my favorite episodes from the classic creepy sci-fi horror show.
026. X-Files Blood/The Host
027. The Purge new! Some nice but ultimately predictable twists in this one. Still, it flies by thanks to the tense filmmaking and excellent cast.
028. Near Dark I keep coming back to this one. The bar scene is worth the entire movie. Also, it's sorta cool seeing three Aliens cast members in a movie of the same vintage.
029. ParaNorman This one is growing on me with this second viewing.
030. Tremors A go to end-of-the-night movie for me. I've watched this creature feature every challenge and it never gets old.

October 20th
031. The Thing Another one that never gets old. This original from Carpenter is worthy of any and all praise.
032. Scream Witty slasher is still good today. Picked this up for my collection and will likely have it in rotation for each challenge.
033. Grave Encounters new! I found this one really creepy, even if the twists and turns here are classic tropes from the genre.
034. Grave Encounters 2 new! Significantly less successful than the first, but still has some good scares and some nice twists in it once it gets going.
035. Rosemary's Baby

October 21st
036. Wallace and Grommit: Curse of the Wererabbit I wish this was movie that was around when I was kid. It would have been my favorite.

October 22nd
037. The Collection new! The opening here was brilliant. The rest of the movie turns into something that seems more derivative of other recent horror movies.

October 23rd
038. The Awakening new! Another 'who is the ghost' movie. Well made with excellent mood and pacing, I think.

October 24th
039. Aliens I could watch this movie again right now. So good.

October 26th
040. The Tingler A classic Castle gimmick fright fest. More charming than most even with the campy effects.
041. Walking Dead S4E01/S4E02 new!
042. The Conjuring new! Super creepy new movie that had me anxiously on the edge of my seat for most of the film.
043. The Children new! Killer county kids. I like deadly kid films... they are the ultimate innocent turned monster flick.
044. The Mummy [1999] I really enjoy this light action epic retelling of the Mummy. Still a treat even with the aging CGI effects.
045. The Mummy Returns [2001] Not nearly as good as the first reboot, but it still has some great action set pieces and big spectacle sequences that make the 2 hours fly by.
046. Carrie [2013] new! This new remake is a little flat. There is minor updates to today, but other items are left in circa 1975. Creepy-carrie is not so creepy. The movie does do a much better job with the motivation and high school rationalizations of the lead girls here. Their actions are much more believable and understood in this version than any others.
047. Frailty Big flip in the third act makes this movie. The validation that comes at the very end works better but is still unnecessary.

October 27th
048. From Hell This one always makes me want to see the better Sleepy Hollow with Depp. Still, this one is fun movie to revisit every few years, when you vaguely remember the twists.
049. X-Files S6E01/S6E02
050. X-Files S6E03/S6E04
051. Dance of the Dead new! Fun zombies munch on teenagers movie. Not something I'd likely revisit, though.
052. Identity Well-crafted serial killer twister with a big flip in the second act. Still enjoyable after having seen this one more than a few times.
053. Riding the Bullet new! Although this one has a definite Stephen King feel to it, I'm not sure it's movie material. It felt like a Lifetime movie.

October 29th
054. Jaws Creature feature with a killer shark, well-played Mr. Spielberg, sir, well-played.
055. The Exorcist The grandpappy of modern horror movies. From a normal happy, well-to-do home to horror beyond belief in about 40 minutes. Instead of coyly suggesting supernatural elements, this one puts it in your face... and convincingly without a single CGI shot. About the weakest element of the whole movie is the head twisting scene, but it blasts buy in the amazing third act of this classic.

October 30th
056. Frankenweenie This one continues to grow on me after each viewing. The level of detail and creature-feature tie-in density is amazing in this movie. I continue to notice more and more references to horror flicks.
056.5. Walking Dead S4E03 new! Ended my challenging with a new Walking Dead episode.

List is finished.

Totals and Highlights
2013 - 56.5. Amazingly, almost exactly half of this total (28.5), were new to me. Top new movies for me, Grave Encounters and The Collection. The opening of the collection is excellent and make the movie for me.

Previous Years
2008 - 104
2009 - 97
2010 - 79
2011 - 54
2012 - 47

Cheer when you hear the name of the movie!

★★★★★ Awww yeah!
★★★★ Excellent
★★★(+) Very Good, I enjoyed it
★★★(-) Good, I didn't dislike it
★★ Sucked
★ Made me angry

Sept 30
1. Black Death* (2010) ★★★★
2. The Pact* (2012) ★★★(-)

Oct 1
3. Inbred* (2011) ★★
Disappointing. There's a lot of hype on the box. I keep telling myself not to believe it, then give in. This one was supposedly "Gloriously Sick and Utterly Hilarious", "A Tour De Force", and "Will Have Gorehounds Reeling in Glee". None of the above. If you're going to keep company with Evil Dead 2 and Re-Animator (as it states on the box), you'd better well fucking bring it. And this movie does not. Absolutely nothing clever about it. No subtitles as well, so some of the British slang/mumblings went past me.
4. Thale* (2012) ★★
BO-RING. More hype on the box, again from Ain't It Cool News. They're joining the list with Bloodydisgusting.com for misleading reviews. The box art makes it look like the movie takes place in some fantastical world. In actuality, it's a fucking basement. Not that there's anything wrong with a basement, it just seems like I was sold something else.

Oct 2
5. Edmond (2005) ★★★★
I was on a Bai Ling kick and discovered this one, directed by Stuart Gordon. Also includes an effeminate Jeffrey Combs as a creepy hotel desk clerk. I wouldn't consider this to be a horror movie, but imdb listed it as one last year when I checked on it for this challenge. It has since been corrected.
6. Half Light* (2006) ★★
Easily 20 minutes too long, and has one monumentally stupid twist towards the end. As an added bonus, the trailer gives away the first twist, which occurs 55 minutes into the movie.

Oct 3
Damn you hockey season!

Oct 4
7. The Loved Ones* (2009) ★★★(+)
From the "Hot Psychopath" genre. They get the prettiest guy in all of Australia, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for him? Lola is apparently some kind of social outcast, but you wouldn't know it from looking at her. She goes off the deep end when Evan Dando politely turns her down for the high school dance. There's a lot of focus on the soundtrack. They definitely tried hard to be "hip". A song for every mood, which kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Yes, I'm a cold-hearted SOB.

Oct 6
8. Followed Home* (2010) zero stars
Acting: Horrible. Attempts at humor: Futile. Music: Only the worst 90's Alternative possible, courtesy of DRONEN. Tension: Non-existent. Editing: WTF?! Is "ingenuitive" a word? "I'm going to go right over there with my 50-year old mother in TOTE." Is the phrase not "in TOW"? Aaaaaggghhh!

Oct 7
9. Castle Freak* (1995) ★★
Pros: Full bush. Cons: Kinda dull. I think I've come to expect more from Stuart Gordon. Maybe I was just in a bad mood.

Oct 8
10. Mother of Tears* Unrated (2007) ★★★(+)
I've adjusted my rating, because I think my system is flawed. I can't put this above the other 4-star movies here.
The most unintentionally hilarious movie I've seen in a while. First of all, it kicks off with a woman being strangled with her own intestines by 3 witches. Then, Michael's meltdown! Sarah "concentrates"! The Mother of "Size"! The "voice"! The gore! The random naked lesbian scene! The double eye-poker! The Crazy Ladies and their gay companion! The crowd-surfing tunic! I don't remember Suspiria being this comical. Nobody can speak English. It's an instant subtitles classic. And, who knew? The Mother of Tears put aside some time for a boob job.

Oct 9
11. American Mary* (2012) ★★★★
Who fucked up at XLrator and let a decent movie through? I was absolutely enamored with the first hour. It's well written, well acted, and well directed. Intriguing. Katharine Isabelle is quite awesome in the part as Mary. If only they could keep a cohesive story for the last 40 minutes. So much potential. A nice companion piece to May and Excision.

Oct 10 Found Footage Double Feature!
12. Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes* (2012) ★★★(-)
XLrator strikes (out) again.
Spoiler:
The myth of Bigfoot is basically a red herring throughout this film. The movie certainly held my interest, but the alien/supernatural force or whatever the fuck they wanted me to believe was terrorizing them does not work at all. It really felt like a lazy way out.

13. V/H/S 2* (2013) ★★★★
The Eye. Zombies. Cult. Aliens. Some crazy POV stuff, and a wild ride.

Oct 11 Phantasm Double Feature!
14. Phantasm (1979) ★★★★
That little girl Mike sure is nosy.
15. Phantasm II (1988) ★★★★
I thought this sequel was superior to the original, even though it's getting the same rating.

Oct 12
16. Phantasm III* Unrated (1994) ★★★(+)
Reggie hooks up with (the real) Mike, the spirit of Jody, another little kid, and Arsenio Hall. The recap conveniently leaves out Mike's 7-year stint in the psycho ward. They go on a tour of mausoleums, trying to track down the Tall Man. I think after three movies, everyone should know not to stand near glass. The deleted scene included here is 12 seconds long!
"Let's Get Outta Here!" (or variation thereof) count: 8

Oct 13 Blood Double Feature!
17. Blood: The Last Vampire* (2009) ★★
Onigen this, and Onigen that. Saya is a demon hunter on an air force base posing as a high school student. Alice is the general's daughter who gets mixed up in this crazy mess. This movie is based on an animated series. It might as well have been animated itself, there is so much bad CGI. The action scenes are toothless and fake. Bleh.
F-Bombs: 1

18. Blood Creek* (2009) ★★
Hitler was obsessed with the occult. Nazi agents were sent around the world to look for ancient relics, the key to immortality. The Wollners welcomed Mr. Wirth into their home to stay for research. The first 10 minutes are quite intriguing. The rest of the movie takes place 70 years later, and plays out like a boss battle in a video game. Wirth resurrects creatures to fight for him. He goes back to the stone to regenerate. He goes through different stages (the "third eye"). You need special items to defeat him. I've played this movie 1000 times over. Bleh.
Dog attacks: 2 / Dog deaths: 3 (one dog died twice)

Oct 14
18.5. The Walking Dead 30 Days Without an Accident* S4/Ep01 (2013) ★★★★

I was depressed so I watched It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia instead of horror movies. I mean, how can you go wrong with an episode called "Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person"?
19. Wildcard It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Mac Is a Serial Killer* S3/Ep10 (2007) ★★★★★
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Dennis Looks Like a Registered Sex Offender* S3/Ep11 (2007) ★★★★

Ooh, the agony!

Oct 15
20. Anamorph* (2007) ★★
I don't know what it is about Willem Dafoe's movies, but they generally make me angry. This one's no exception. Stan (Dafoe) is an anal retentive detective with a drinking problem. He's after either "Uncle Eddie" or someone who's copycatting the serial killer. It would seem that the Uncle Eddie backstory is pivotal to the plot, but we're never given more than a couple hints as to what actually happened. This guy, whoever he is, is turning the crime scenes into art. He also has a hard-on for Stan. All I know about his girl Sandy (Clea DuVall), that is if she is his girl, is that she has terrible penmanship. I waited for something, anything to click into place. The story is painfully slow. And just like the missing "IA" in Willem Dafoe's name, this movie is missing a conclusion. I was tempted to give this film one star for pissing me off, but it had decent production value, and the concept of Anamorphosis (which they didn't exactly invent) is interesting.

Oct 18
21. The Lords of Salem* (2012) ★★★(+)
Sheri Moon Zombie again?! She is donning the Rob Zombie dreads and more tats. Guess Rob is rubbing off on her, so to speak. Mrs. Zombie is Heidi Larac, a local DJ in Salem, Massachusetts. One day she receives a wooden box with a record inside by a band called The Lords. It contains one evil number, which she plays on the radio. Turns out The Lords are Margaret Morgan and her coven of witches, who used to hide out in the woods and make music to possess the souls of the Salem women. It gets better. Really cool story. Although I didn't see Halloween II, this is the first RZ movie I genuinely enjoyed. I think this is also the first horror movie I've seen where they didn't kill the pet. Bonus points for the rather unpleasant (and plentiful) full frontal witch nudity.
"The Lords of Salem" cheer count: 7

22. Phantasm IV: Oblivion (1998) ★★★(+)
Why doesn't the Tall Man just shrink the gang down to dwarf size, fill them with pus, and send them on their way to a slave's life in Hell? I mean, I guess he has other plans for Mike, but why let Reggie go? Does he want to pick up some tips for making moves on the ladies? This sequel is kind of aimless and meandering, but I have to say I was still glued to it. Don Coscarelli found a home for all of his unused Phantasm footage in the form of flashbacks. It actually works fairly well. Mike gets caught up in another dimension where the Tall Man is undertaker Jebediah Morningside, before he turned evil. Wacky shenanigans ensue.

24. Antiviral* (2012) ★★
Alright, let me get this straight. Syd March works at the Lucas Clinic, injecting celebrities diseases into willing and eager clients. Syd, played coldly by Caleb Landry Jones, smuggles viruses through his own body, un-copy protects them with a machine in his apartment, and sells them to his shady dealer. The dealer, in turn, turns them into celebrity cell steaks for consumption. The mood and look is dour and stark. Syd, the center of this movie, exhibits absolutely no human qualities, so it's difficult to sympathize with him in his predicament in the film. Hope you don't have an aversion to needles.

25. Cockneys vs. Zombies* (2012) ★★★(+)
Terry and Andy knock off a bank to save their Grandad's nursing home. Apparently "muppet" is a Cockney insult. They use it throughout the film. I don't know about you, but I could watch the hot brunette (Michelle Ryan) kick zombie ahss all day.
Muppet count: 6

26. Puppet Master* (1989) ★★★★
A group of psychics is brought together to an inn through a series of visions. Their old pal Neil Gallagher has killed himself. He discovered Andre Toulon's ancient Egyptian secret to giving life to inanimate figures. I was taken by surprise as to how well this movie was made. I have a whole lot of sequels to sift through.

Oct 23
27. Puppet Master 2* (1991) ★★★(-)
Man oh man, this is the most poorly presented movie I've ever seen. It is a blotchy, full screen, staggering, flashing mess. I guess that's what you get when you cram five movies onto one disc. I'm not sure if the presentation affected my enjoyment of the movie or not, but this is a serious step down from the original, all around. A paranormal investigation team is sent to the inn to find out what happened to the psychics in the last movie. They don't play up the paranormal angle at all. Not sure why they even brought them in. A mysterious stranger wrapped up like the Invisible Man claims the inn is his. Turns out this guy is a resurrected Toulon. The puppets revolt! The Leech Woman dies a fiery death. There goes the puppet's sex appeal.

Oct 25
28. Alyce Kills* (2011) ★★
Alyce's life is full of creeps. Unfortunately, I have to put up with said creeps, too. Her friend Carroll is hopped up on red velvet cake. Oh, and Ecstasy. Alyce pukes up the cake, and it looks like blood. Does this pass off as a scare? There is an inane Ecstasy-fueled "girl time" scene that ends in Carroll's death. Well, she's not dead, but she fell off a building. It's implied that Alyce may have pushed her, inexplicably, her only friend. Alyce hooks up with the drug dealers that sold Carroll the drugs. These clowns are supposed to be comic relief, I guess. She calls the main dealer Rx (ha ha) a "cliche" in the movie. Hey, I didn't say it. In a scene that goes on for an eternity, Rx tries desperately to be profound. Inexplicably, Alyce is charmed by him (or something) and sleeps with him. They become an item. Alyce finally kills at the one hour mark. Alyce gropes the corpse of Carroll (inexplicably). She also masturbates to CNN. Is that supposed to be some sort of social commentary? Brilliant. In one of the most unsexual sex scenes I've seen, Alyce pops "Curtain" the jock's back acne. There's a scene where she lets someone go. You wouldn't know she had any real emotions from any other scene in the movie. I have no clue who Alyce is. I can only come to the conclusion that she's just plain nuts. I'm bumping Alyce Kills up a star due to some good killing and dismembering towards the end of this film. Yes, I'm that easy.
29. Dark House* (2009) ★★★(+)
This is the first Fangoria movie I've seen that I actually enjoyed. Claire (Meghan Ory) has a traumatic experience in the Darrode foster home as a child. Now, 14 years later, she is suicidally depressed. There's no way that a chick who looks like Claire is slicing up her wrists. Not believable! Walston (colorfully played, natch, by Jeffrey Combs), the king of horror haunts, offers Claire and her acting class some quick cash for a day's work in the haunted Darrode house. Claire takes this as an opportunity to appease her therapist's advice, and return to the house. While bad CGI mars parts of the movie, overall it has a fun, campy tone. Diane Salinger's take on the psychotic Mrs. Darrode is completely over-the-top.
Dark House cheer count: 7

30. Roadkill* (2011) ★★★(-)
I knew I was in trouble as soon as I saw this was a SyFy movie, so I went into this with low expectations. The opening of this movie looks exactly like one of the trailers on the disc. It's the same wooded setting, from the same camera angles. Someone must've saved some dough at SyFy. A group of kids reunite with a tour through Ireland in a Winnebago. At a stop along the way, they hit a gypsy with their van, and are cursed to die via "Simuroc" (a giant bird). Let me tell ya, for a bunch of kids being terrorized by a giant gypsy death hawk, they sure do saunter around outside the vehicle. The "dude" situation is totally out of control. Clearly, I kept track of the wrong word. Even the psycho gypsy from Ireland mocks them twice by calling them dude.
"YO" count: 19

31. The Zombie Diaries* (2006) ★
Groups of Brits encounter zombies. That is all. Well, there was the guy with the moles, the guy with the big nose, the blonde, the other blonde. Then there's the military... I don't fucking know. It was terribly confusing. Emphasis on terribly. Half of it takes place in the dark. The quotes on the box not only make you think this is the best zombie film ever, it actually fucking says Best Zombie Film Ever. Someone actually thought this was better than, oh, say, Day of the Dead? Just an insult of a film.
32. Cannibal! The Musical* (1993) ★★★★
In the tradition of Friday the 13th Part 2 and Oklahoma!
I still don't know what a shpadoinkle is.

Oct 28
33. Dorm of the Dead* (2006) ★
Certainly not to be confused with any other "of the Dead" films. Can I judge a movie by the quality of its trailers (of other movies)? I bought this (for $1, new) strictly to see Andrea "Miss Howard Stern" Ownbey's acting. She was as bad as I expected, but not as bad as others in this movie. And the movie. Holy crap. Several firsts in this one. It starts off with some very agile, acrobatic zombies. A little later, a guy is so oblivious to his hormones that he "gets it on" with some female zombies. And, best of all, a younger guy (read: below 60) drives a PT Cruiser. Further hindrances include a ridiculous amount of sound glitches. The soundtrack is loud and invasive, especially when there is dialog. The music "artist" - I couldn't read the name in the credits - has a major Rob Zombie complex. So much so that I think Rob has a lawsuit. It seems like scenes in the same room take place in different time zones and different video formats! Painful. I've never seen 74 minutes stretched out as much as it is here. There are TWO sets of end credits. There's maybe 45 minutes worth of material, and Andrea is onscreen for about 2 minutes, when she rather abruptly ditches her friend. Time to get back to the sugar daddy!
34. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) ★★★★
Yay for practical effects! Jack (Trevor Matthews, obviously Canadian -- Get oot!) has some anger management issues. As a kid, he witnessed his entire family get killed by some mysterious creature. Today, he's a plumber, sees a counselor, and attends a night class with his girlfriend, Eve (Rachel Skarsten). One night, Jack goes out to look at Professor Crowley's (Robert Englund) pipes, which in turn, releases something evil from his cursed property. I loved this story, from Jack's issues to the black demon heart. Fun foam latex creatures. A great time.

Oct 29
35. Abominable* (2006) ★★★★
Preston (Matt McCoy) is released into Otis (Christien Tinsley) the male nurse's care from the hospital. Preston was in a rock climbing accident at Suicide Rock with his wife, who died. He is wheelchair-bound, and spies on his young female neighbors with his binoculars, Rear Window-style. There's a Sasquatch in the neighborhood who terrorizes the girls. Preston wants to help, but can only watch the carnage unfold. No one belives him. Otis is a dick. Abominable is particularly well-made for an abominable snowman story, and is quite enjoyable. It includes old friends Jeffrey Combs, Lance Henriksen, and Tiffany Shepis.
Let's Get Out of Here!: 1
F-bombs: 1
Shower scenes: 1
Abominable cheer count: 1
Vomit scenes: 1 (offscreen)
Spoiler:
Otis dies a suitably gruesome death. Sask bites his face off!

36. Warm Bodies* (2013) ★★
Pretty much represents everything I hate in a big budget PG-13 movie. I mean, the trailers on this disc are Twilight and The Hunger Games. I'm not sure I'm exactly in their target demographic. "R" (that's all he can remember) is a zombie who lives at the airport. Julie and her group of friends go beyond "the wall" to scavenge for supplies. R kills Julie's boyfriend, and eats his brains. In a new twist, eating someone's brains gives the zombie the victim's memories. R gets all sentimental, and takes Julie home to the airport. I dunno. Zombies with feelings, motor skills, and comprehension? Bad CGI? Too much focus on the soundtrack? And do we really need another Franco starring in movies? The zombies eventually become even more savage creatures called Boners. Or something. But some of them become human. Why? Is this supposed to make sense? Everything works out all nice in the end, so you don't have to worry your pretty little head. I'd say zombies have officially jumped the shark.

My list is going to look boring this year because I'm unemployed, going to school full time, and I don't want to eat up viewing time making this thing look all fancy and shit. As usual, it ain't about winning, I'm just happy to play.

Re: The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Thread

October 1
1) Daybreakers (2009, Blu-Ray) - Liked this one better than I remembered Movie 3.5/5, Disc 4/5

2) The Lords of Salem (2012, Blu-Ray) - Bizarre stuff from Rob Zombie Movie 3/5, Disc 4/5

3) Humanoids from the Deep (1980, Blu-Ray) - Classic B-Movie creature feature Movie 3.5/5, Disc 3.5/5

October 2
4) World War Z (Unrated Cut) (PPVHD) - I was somewhat disappointed with this when I saw it in the theater, but wanted to see if the unrated cut was any better. The answer is yes. Most of the added scenes were of mild gore and violence, but it seemed to make it a little more believable as a zombie flick. Movie 3.5/5

October 3
5)From Beyond (1986, Blu-Ray) - Perfect movie for this time of year complete with awesome 80's FX. Movie 4.5/5, Disc/PQ 4.5/5

6) Insidious (2010, Blu-Ray) - Move 4/5, Disc/PQ 4/5

October 4
7)Sinister (2012, Blu-Ray) - I liked this much better the second time around. Movie 4/5, Disc/PQ 4/5

8) Fright Night 2: New Blood (2013, PPVHD) - Plays more like a remake of the original Fright Night and Fright Night 2 combined. Not sure why the totally abandoned the recent re-make. Has its moments and is certainly watchable, just not memorable. Movie 3/5

9)XRay (1980, Blu-Ray) - Double feature disc from Scream Factory, this is the better of the two movies. Good example of an early 80's low budget slasher with Barbire Benton. Nice to have these obscure flicks on Blu-Ray. Movie 3/5, Disc/PQ 2.5/5

10)Schizoid (1980, Blu-Ray) - Extremely slow burner and fairly uninteresting. Double Feature disc with XRay from Scream factory. Movie 2/5, Disc/PQ 3/5

October 5
11)A Nightmare on Elm Street (1985, Blu-Ray) - A classic! Movie 5/5, Disc/PQ 4/5

- NLCS Game 2 Cardinals vs. Dodgers -

October13
19)Priest (2011, Blu-Ray) - This movie was pretty widely hated, but I find it to be fun. It was a missed opportunity to build a franchise though. They could have done so much more with the series mythology. In better hands this could have been another "Underworld". I still like it. Movie 3.5/5, Disc 4/5

20)Underworld Evolution (2006, Blu-Ray) - Maybe my favorite of the series. Movie 4.5/5 Dsic 4.5/5

October 14

- NLCS Game 3 Dodgers vs. Cardinals -

21)Underworld Rise of the Lycons (Blu-Ray) - Realized when watching this that it is must have been influenced by the legend of Spaticus. Lucion being the Sparticus of werewolves. Movie 4.5/5, Disc 4/5

October 15

- NLCS Game 4 Dodgers vs Cardinals -

22)Underworld Awakening (2012, Blu-Ray 3D) - Another entertaining entry. The 3D image is pretty nice on this disc. Movie 4.5/5, Disc 4.5/5

October 16

- NLCS Game 5 Dodgers vs. Cardinals -

23)In the Mouth of Madness (1994, Blu-Ray) - A good film from the master John Carpenter. This new blu-Ray release looks great. Movie 4/5, Disc 4.5/5

24)Curse of Chucky (2013, Blu-Ray) - Part of the new blu-Ray box set. Definiate throwback to early Chucky. Some nice cameos also. Movie 4/5, Disc 4/5

October 17
25)Child's Play (1988, Blu-Ray) - The one that started it all. A classic! Movie 4/5, Disc 4/5

October 21
31)Werewolf The Beast Among Us (2012, Blu-Ray) - Does a nice job of capturing the feel of a classic Universal monster flick. Movie 4/5, Disc 4/5

October 22
32)Eight Legged Freaks (2001, DVD) - Great creature feature paying hommage to 50's "giant bug" movies. Lots of nods to various horror films. Why no blu-ray release? Movie 5/5, disc 3.5/5

October 23

- World Series Game 1 Red Sox vs. Cardinals -

33)Hellraiser (1987, Blu-Ray) - Classic from Clive Barker. Blu-ray is the Anchor Bay version. Movie 5/5, Disc 4/5

October 24

- World Series Game 2 Red Sox vs. Cardinals -

34)Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988, DVD) - Amps up the gore a bit from the first one. Has that great late 80's feel to it. Image quality is descent but not great. I've read that the Echo Bridge Blu-Ray is not much better though. DVD also has several nice special features. Movie 4/5, Disc 3/5

35)Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992, DVD) - Big budget Hellraiser. A couple of the new Cenobites reminded me of the Borg. Paramount DVD version has nice video quality. Movie 4/5, Disc 3.5/5

October 25
36)Slither (2005, DVD) - Loose remake of "Night of the Creeps" by the same guy that did the Dawn of the Dead remake. Movie 5/5, disc, 4/5

38)Hellraiser: Bloodlines (1996, Blu-Ray) - Good origins story of the puzzle box. I watched the Echo Brodge edition with 4 movies on the disc. PQ is not bad. A definite step up from the DVD. Not perfect but nice especially at the low price point. Movie 3.5/5, Disc PQ 3.5/5

October 26
40)Silver Bullet (1985, AMC FearFest) - Entertaining werewolf story by Steven King. Or maybe I just like to watch Gary Busey do his thing Movie 3/5

-World Series Game 3 Cardinals vs. Red Sox

October 27

- World Series Game 4 Cardinals vs. Red Sox -

42)John Carpenter's Halloween (1978, Blu-Ray) - New 35th anniversary blu-ray looks the best the movie ever has. Disc is light on the special features, but the ones that are there are pretty good. Movie 5/5, Disc 4.5/5

October 28

- World Series Game 5 Cardinals vs. Red Sox -

43)Halloween II (1981, Blu-ray) - Shout! factory blu-ray has nice picture quality. A little soft at times, but probably the best the film has looked. Movie 4.5/5, Disc 4/5

October 29
44)Halloween 4: The Return of Michale Myers (1988, Blu-Ray) - The one that started it all for Danielle Harris. I know its generally ignored in the Halloween timeline, but I really like this one. Blu-ray is generally good, a step up from the DVD. Movie 4/5, Disc 4/5

45)Frankenstein (1931, Blu-Ray) - New blu-Ray looks descent. Movie 5/5, disc 4.5/5

Re: The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Thread

My First Horror Challenge
*= first time watching
Counting Method: 2 hours of Television Content = 1 item

My goal is 31 .

Potential List:
I'm going for a Zombie theme and finishing up watching some of the horror franchises I've seen parts of.
Everything I'm watching is off my DVR.

28 Weeks Later
30 Days of Night: Dark Days
Billy the Kid Vs. Dracula
Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return
Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror
Dead Season
Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter
Night of the Living Dead
Nosferatu
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Resident Evil: Extinction
The Ring Two
Zombie Apocalypse

September 30
1. Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998)*
Blow up dolls, corn theft and lots of scary children.
Body Count - 16

October 1
2. 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010)*
A queen vamp with a robotic voice, loads of depressed people and a stupid ending.
Body Count - 17 (counting vamps)

October 2
3. Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return (1999)*
There's always a convertible in these movies and usually whoever is driving it gets killed or abducted. I'm now convinced that driving a convertible in Nebraska is hazardous to your health. Overall this is the worst CotC movie I have seen (and that's saying something) though the worst half hour was somewhat interesting.
Body Count - 5
3.5 Sleepy Hollow - Ep 1.3 "For the Triumph pf Evil"*
4.5 Dead Season (2012)*
Blah. Bad acting, cannibalism (and not just the zombies) and a whole lot of people I didn't really like.
Body Count - 18 (estimate as there were a lot of zombies I didn't count)*

October 3
5. Supernatural - Ep. 8.22 "Clip Show"*
5.5 Supernatural - Ep. 8.23 "Sacrifice"*

October 4
6. Supernatural - Ep. 7.13 "The Slice Girls"
7. Zombie Apocalypse (2011)*
This was a good, fun movie. There was a crazy bit with a zombie tiger with some really bad special effects but over all it was pretty good. My favorite movie I've watched for this challenge so far.
Body Count - 5 (Not counting zombies)

October 5
7.5 The Dead Files - Ep. 4.1 "Betrayed - Egg Harbor, NJ"

October 6
8.5 Billy the Kid Vs. Dracula (1966)*
Who knew Dracula looked like a magician in a bad Vegas act? Or that he turned red when hypnotizing people? Or that he turned into what looked like a huge crepe paper bat and wasn't bothered by sunlight? The things we learn from movies.
Body Count - 8
9.5 Night of the Living Dead (1968)*
My mom saw this at the drive-in as a teenager in PA where the movie was filmed. I grew up hearing the storyline from her so knew it well. This is the first time I have ever been able to make it through this movie. While it's not the scariest movie there is something decidedly eerie and creepy about it (Plus a whole lot of social commentary). I'm glad I finally watched it (and drug my husband and best friend along for the ride.)
Body Count - 9 (Not counting zombies)
10. Witches of East End - Ep. 1.1 "Pilot"*

October 7
11. Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)*
There was a horrible, creepy bird scene. Blech! Aside from that this was the standard zombie & science guy fighting, that the Resident Evil movies generally are.
Body Count - 15
12. House of Bones (2010)*
Aside from the fact it was a little long this was a pretty good movie. There were some gruesome bits and some creepy bits. All in all a pretty good scary movie.
Body Count - 8

October 8
13. The Children (2008)*
Message received loud and clear : Children are evil.
Body Count - 4
14. Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)*
So maybe two RE movies two days in a row is a bit much. This one was eh and didn't really grab my attention. I did like the ending though. Well, up until it wasn't so happily ever after.
Body Count - 5 (Not counting Umbrella soldiers)

October 9
14.5 Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Ep. 4.15 "This Year's Girl"
15. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Ep. 4.16 "Who Are You?"
16. Darkness (2002)*
Genuinely scary. I was quit happy to turn the light back on.
Body Count - 2 (Tricky as there were several maybe deaths but only two I was sure of.)

October 10
17. The Fog (2005)*
Blah. The girl from Lost and Superman run around in the killer fog which is really dangerous, as is washing dishes. But the radio station that was ran out of the lighthouse was cool.
Body Count - 9 (Not counting people from the past or people made into ghosts.)
18. Paranormal Activity (2007)*
Creepy! The stupid boyfriend annoyed me for not taking things seriously. Really scared me.
Body Count - 1

October 11
19. Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966)*
Wow, this was bad. It was way more a Western than a horror movie. I love the mixing bowl on the head look that Dr. Frankenstein wore during her experiments.
Body Count - 7

October 13
20. Fright Night (2011)*
Loads of fun! David Tennant is awesome in this (When isn't he?). The original Fright Night was the first scary movie I saw a theater, at a late night showing with my mom so I have a soft spot for it. I loved the Chris Sarandon cameo.
Body Count - 8
20.5 The Walking Dead Ep. - 4.1 "30 Days Without an Accident"*

October 15
21. Supernatural - Ep. 8.7 "A Little Slice of Kevin"*
22. Open Graves (2009)*
Dragonflies are evil and board games are dangerous - That's what I learned from this movie. My second movie with a lighthouse and again that was probably the coolest part.
Body Count - 6
22.5 Supernatural - Ep. 8.12 "As Time Goes By"*

October 16
23. Supernatural - Ep. 8.14 "Trial and Error"*
24. Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane (2007)*
Surprisingly fun. Very quirky. A good, fun, zombie movie.
Body Count - 23

October 17
24.5 Supernatural - Ep. 8.15 "Man's Best Friend With Benefits"*
25. Supernatural - Ep. 8.16 "Remember the Titans"*
25.5 The Vampire Diaries - Ep. 5.1 "I Know What You Did Last Summer"*
26. The Vampire Diaries - Ep. 5.2 "True Lies"*

October 18
26.5 Supernatural - Ep. 8.17 "Goodbye Stranger"*

October 19
26.75 Toy Story of Terror (2013)*
Adorable

October 21
27.25 Supernatural - Ep. 8.18 "Freaks and Geeks"*
27.75 The Walking Dead Ep. - 4.2 "Infected"*

October 22
28.75 The Vampire (1957)*
Well that was odd. A vampire that looked more like an old caveman. He wasn't afraid of sunlight, could be killed with a bullet and never seemed to be aware what he was doing when he was a vampire. So odd.
Body Count - 4
29.25 Supernatural - Ep. 8.19 "Taxi Driver"*

October 24
30.25 Friday the 13th (2009)*
Some things are best left alone. This remake was a fail in my book. It really wasn't scary and was missing that certain je ne sais quoi that the original had (though 2, 3 & 7 were my favorites). It was bland, silly and just not that appealing.
Body Count - 13

October 25
31.25 Tower of London (1962)*
Lots of murder and ghosts.
Body Count - 10
32.25 Scream (1996)
One of my all time favorite movies.
Body Count - 7

October 26
33.25 Scream 2 (1997)
A great sequel. And my best friend is officially hooked.
Body Count - 10

October 27
33.75 The Walking Dead Ep. - 4.2 "Isolation"*

October 28
34.75 Nosferatu (1922)*
OK. Now I've seen it.
Body Count - No idea...he killed pretty much the whole town.
35. Halloween is Grinch Night (1977)*
There were definitely drugs involved in the making of this.

October 29
36. Day of the Dead (2008)*
A fun zombie movie.
Body Count - 26 (And countless zombies)
37. 28 Weeks Later (2007)*
Well that was lovely and depressing.
Body Count - No idea...they killed just about everybody.
38. Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)*
Creepy and I thought it was cool how it tied into the first one.
Body Count - 2

October 30
39. Friday the 13th Part III (1982)
One of my all time favorite horror films. Shrieking aside, I think Chris (the heroine) would make Buffy proud. She plots and attacks and eventually takes Jason out (well as much as one ever can in these movies.) I saw this movie so many times as a teenager I could probably quote most of the lines and I still love it today.
Body Count - 12
40. Scream 3 (2000)
Good fun.
Body Count - 10
41. When a Stranger Calls (2006)*
The original scared me to death as a child. This one was creepy and reminds me why I hate telephones.
Body Count - 7

October 31 - Happy Halloween!
42. Halloween: The Inside Story (2010)*
A really interesting documentary about the Halloween franchise, specifically about the first film which started it all. Very interesting and well done.
43. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)*
Interesting to watch, knowing it was the movie Jamie Lee hoped would be the final chapter of Halloween. A good movie.
Body Count - 7
44. Halloween (1978)*
Finishing the challenge off with a classic. It was even better having watched the documentary on it today and knowing some of the backstory. It's a classic for a reason.
Body Count - 5

Total Body Count - 274

6. Intruder* - Some sick kills in this classic
7. The Dead* - Not much dialogue the first 20 mins. just Dark skin zombies hunting in the island.

10-3

8. The Reef*Theme Subset - Def reminds me of the open water series. Was very into it and wanted to know the outcome.
9. Sand Sharks *Theme- Nice seeing Brook Hogan showing some sexy clothing in this B movie. This pic was from last year where she signed my movie

10-6

10. Suicide Club* - The intro was insane. wow
11. The Last Exorcism 2*Theme - Started out well then it dragged. still a decent watch

10-7

12. Bride of Frankenstein *Theme - Wanted more from this. Reveal at the end
13. The Messengers* - Great beginning, then it turned to reg spiritual ghost story. Still a decent watch
14. The Prowler* - The last scene in the end of elimatinating was OHH S#%t! moment
15. The Haunting* - Intro seem this was going to be good. it was ok, the banging and noise effects were good.

10-8

16. The Town That Dread Sundown* - By far my fav the of the challenge. just like the narration and the old feel to it. I didn't know until mid way, this was based on real life events.
17. LifeForce* - That sexy vampire walking naked thruout the movie..enuff said
18. The Burning* - Like this slasher movie. The killin sequence on the boat was really good. Nice to see Jason Alexander from Sienfield
19. Bad Milo *- Went to see this as my first theater movie of the challenge. Some what funny especially with all the anus jokes and farting. Creature going in was a lol moment

10-9

20. I Spit On Your Grave 2* - Not bad for a squeal. Still has a scene that will make any man gringe.
21. The Curse Of Chucky* - Thought Chucky look to fat and big. Also didn't think he said nothing to clever or funny. still worth a watch. Also meet Brad Dourif , the voice of Chucky last month.

10-12
22.An American Werewolf In London* - Took my forever to watch this. Glad I finally did cause it was cool.

10-13
1/2 entry. The Walking Dead Season 4 *Loved the raining zombies to start the season off. Met few of the cast during comic con week

10-15
23.Machete Kills* - My 2nd theater outing of the challenge. Took one of my friends to see it after doing a photo shoot of The Orphan Killer ( See above ) Not as good as the first but still has enough action, girls, intestines for your appetite.

24. Trilogy of terror* - Liked 2 of the 3 stories here. The first one the teacher student was rather good and wanted to see what will happen in the end. The last one of the statue running all over the place was fun.

10-16
25. The Entity* - The creepy score and the banging through out made this very enjoyable. Atmosphere was creepy as well.
26. Gremlins 2 *- Very cool movie. Just as good as the first imo. Funny to see them put Hulk Hogan in this.
27. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 - Kind of all over the place but i did enjoy it this time around. That DJ was hot running around in her shorts.
28. Evil Dead 2 - Some what dumb funny and kool at the sametime

10-17
29. Hollow* - Suffering to get thru this movie. Didn't like this at all- though it started out quiet well.

10-18

30. The Blob *- Classic. Liked everything about this. thought it would be in b&w. The ending could have been better.

10-19
Spoiler:

A. Casola Farms
Went to a haunted Farm in New Jersey. It was alright and everything but the best thing was seeing freedy in the woods standing and running toward us to get into our truck. He said YOUR ALL MY CHILDREN HAHAHA..Then out of the woods came JASON. Then they got of the truck and started fighting. Awesome! Like reliving Freddy vs. Jason in person in the woods. Of course Jason came toward us after killing Freddy. My cousin was good enough to take a few pics. It was cool and fitting for this challenge. Don't know if it counts as an entry but If Chad wants to add it.

10-20

31. Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies* - The beginning lead me to believe this was going to awesome. Then it drag and that was the end of it. Slow ending.

10-21

32. Curandero - Dawn Of The Demon *- This is a nice cool Mexican demon/satan horror film. Has its moments. Lots of quick flashes of the demon. Mexican don't movies aren't to shabby.

10-22

33. They Live - Just my second seeing this and still holds up. I HAVE COME HERE TO CHEW BUBBLEGUM AND KICK ASS!!!

34. Two Evil Eyes*- Like both stories here. The first one was some what creepy of the dead alive man. Harvey Keitel was good in the cat story as usual
35. Q The Winged Serpent* - This movie let me down. Thinking this will be a nice creature feature but not. Horrible.

10-23
36. Hellraiser Bloodline* - Try to get into this but couldn't
37. Night Train To Terror* - Thought this will be something like terror train. Boy was I wrong. With music acts thru the movie its very weird strange film.

10-24
38. The Splat Pack* - Nice Docu with all the directors I like. Recap of all there films here.

10-25
39. Dark Side Of The Moon* - Read about this from a poster here. Movie truly is a nice gem. The climate eerie and creepy in sapce. Don't know what will happen next. The ending is just as good

10-28
40. Prince Of Darkness* - So , with a nice Carpenter score
41. Killer's Moon* - Started out great within the woods and you expect hell to break lose. Some good nudes of the victims.

10-29
Vampire Day

42. The Lost Boys - Picked this one to start my day off. Watching it again after while felt so refreshing.
43. Near Dark - The characters are cool. Scene in the bar is good
44. Fright Night 2 '13* - Not bad. Bathtub scene transformation was sweet.
45. Fright Night '11 - Not a bad remake. Mcluvin as a vampire is funny. Colin as a vamp was nice.
46. Queen Of The Damned - I enjoyed this more this time around. The back story of lestat and how he change was a nice touch

10-30
47. See No Evil - Still good. The kill scenes are pretty damn sweet. Cellphone one is the best.

10-31
48. Halloween 35 AnniversaryTheme - Was going to see this on the big screen the night before. Didn't make it. The new transfer is an upgarde. made me enjoyed it a little more.
49. Saw 4 - I had to rebuy this because my copy was from a bad batch on first pressing. I hear all are like that. So if you guys have one, plz check it out. Saw 2 is another bad disc. Anyway, The movie was a continuation to the series. Officer Riggs is a cop I like and his payoff was unfortunate. The end of Donnie Wahlberg was a WOW moment. Nice twist and the beginning of Det Hoffman
50. Freddy's Dead - Not a movie I would remember and speak fond of
51. The Monster Club* - The music acts are the fun part in this for me. Story wise, meh.

Re: The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Thread

Will be doing mini Twitter reviews on @MichaelCWalsh that I will also add to the list below. Logging reviews with ratings on my Letterboxd. And perhaps extended reviews on my blog Walsh Words.

A * denotes a first time viewing.

Sept. 30 (after dusk)
1. The Iron Rose*
A macabre essay on life, death & love. Two lovers spend a chaotic night in a maze-like cemetery. Spellbinding.
2. The House by the Cemetery
Its atmosphere leads to a crazy finale. This classic has the Godfather of Gore's touch all over it.

Oct. 1
3. Where Evil Lives*
A campy horror anthology. Appears to be self-aware of its absurdities, which is why it succeeds. It has heart.
4. Fascination*
Jean Rollin's stunning visuals are on display throughout. Its tale of blood lust is subtle for a good reason. Dreamlike.

Oct. 2
5. Frankenhooker*
Absolutely one of the funniest and smartest of the entire genre. It's absurd and insane with a side of insanity.
6. Phase IV*
Who knew there could be such a smart, refined and suspenseful take on the insect creature feature genre?

Oct. 3
7. The Man from Deep River*
White man accepted into savage tribe. Hellish with romantic respites. Sets stage for later cannibal films.

Oct. 4
8. Terror Train*
A slasher confined to a speeding party train. With a twist, it's lots of fun and is smarter than you might think.
9. Resolution*
An achievement. It's interesting & tense all the way through to the end. Horror with actual characters. One of the best indie horror films.
10. The Burning*
One of the better early 80's slashers. Doesn't get better than watching a young Jason Alexander act w/ full head of hair.

Oct. 8
11. The Conjuring*
Old school barnburner haunted house flick. James Wan causes nightmares w/ tension building. Could be a tad more subtle.

Oct. 10
12. Sinister*
There's some serious mood setting going on in this one. Tense and poetic with a dash of psychological terror.
