I'd consider them more as sci-fi, though they do have horror elements. I pretty much just go with whatever IMDb says.

Apollo 18 was pretty boring (nothing really happened until the end). I mean, it was watchable, but nothing special.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Didn't see it all, but to whet my appetite for the challenge, I just caught part of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead on Chiller. I wasn't expecting a comedy, but it wasn't bad, almost more of a vampire comedy than a straight up vampire movie. Chiller and SyFy will be some good channels for the Challenge, as every October, SyFy airs the 31 Days of Halloween, all horror all the time.

Edited to add:

Also every Saturday night at 9 PM Eastern time, Chiller airs a movie with social media, where people watch while on facebook and twitter so you can either comment or read the comments as the movie plays.

Thanks for these. The Universal Horror Film list will be helpful for organizing the 1920s-1940s aspect of my viewing.

Altered, which is from the same director of Lovely Molly. A group of friends have some very close encounters--15 years later one of them captures the being responsible. Surprisingly entertaining for a low budget, direct-to-DVD film and great special effects. Also streaming on Netflix.

Just bought tickets for a screening of 'Re-Animator' (1985) in 2 weeks!

After the screening, Barbara Crampton is doing a live/in-person Q&A! Pretty excited for this!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I have a question for clarification. Is there any official ruling on movies that start before dusk but end after dusk. I ask as I don't have a DVR, and there may be a good horror movie on tv on Sept 30 that starts at a between time and know a couple challenges allow you to start a movie before the challenge begins and count it as long as it ends after the Challenge has begun.

It has been difficult but I have finally amassed 31 different seasonal beers, one for each day of the challenge.

12 Oktoberfest Ales
14 Pumpkin something or others
2 Horror themed beers
3 Fall Brews

That might be the best thing I've ever seen in these challenge forums SterlingBen. Loving beer as much as I do, I'm surprised I never thought of it myself. I will definitely have to steal this idea next year.

I am in awe of you, SterlingBen. Please let us know how each of them are as you drink them. I don't think I've heard of most of them!

Hehe! Yeah, I'm hoping to watch it Monday night! Though I may go ahead and watch Repulsion tomorrow, time permitting.

SterlingBen, that is quite the collection. Makes me want to try out some new beers. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to pumpkin, so a lot of those are off limits for me.

That beer collection looks awesome. I think I will have to try a few of those beers in the weeks ahead to go along with the challenge.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I need some advice. Yesterday I bought the Dimension Extreme/Weinstein Company release of Night Of The Living Dead DVD. I guess it turns out that there was some cropping to the picture. Should I keep it or take it back? I do have some public domain releases of Night Of The Living Dead which I know aren't the best quality, but what are your opinions on this release being cropped?

It's worth it just for the "One for the Fire" doc alone. I didn't think the cropping was too distracting and it's got a great transfer. I think it's a keeper.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Weird to think that this starts in only a couple days. Spent the last few days digging through my storage and picking out some stuff to watch. Then I put some shelves up in this dumpy little room we have to stay in and filled them up. It's reminding me of the good ol' days having these shelves filled with movies arranged by spines. It was kind of a bummer seeing some of my special box sets and stuff getting squished in storage but trying not to think about it too much. Just looking forward to getting started on this.

I used that wikipedia list for the main contents of mine with more research for any missing titles and release dates.

Be *very* careful with that imdb list! Many titles listed are not "horror" and a quite a few were not produced by Universal! Island of Lost Souls, for example, was produced by Paramount. Universal simply holds some distribution rights.

That is impressive; didn't even know half of those beers existed. I'd almost be tempted to purchase duplicates of each for displaying on a shelf.

It's fine as long as dusk is involved in some form or fashion.

Stockpiling films to put aside for challenge theme nights. Another one I just added for horror "western" is called Dead in Tombstone with Danny Trejo and Mickey Rourke. Could have some B-movie potential.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Just realized my copy of Crystal Lake Memories is due to arrive tomorrow.

Speaking of which, I think we've mentioned this in the past, but if you wanna count excessively long documentaries using TV rules (every 2 hours = 1 entry) then go right ahead. It doesn't make much sense to include an 11+ hour doc (including the bonus disc) as only one.

And anyone checked out Autopsy of the Dead? I've had it sitting unopened on a shelf for over 4 years.

I get paid on the first and have contemplated purchasing Crystal Lake Memories. I looked at the F13 Blu Ray set, but it was too steep for me, so I will just make do with replacing my missing F13 1 DVD and watch the others from the Crystal Lake to Manhattan Set as I had also purchased Jason Goes to Hell separately.
