So in thinking of movies I could watch. Would movie that are sci fi and horror like the Alien Series count? Then would something like both Teen Wolf movies work as well? They are comedies, but I would categorize them as warewolf movies.

Count me in for a subset too. I've been keeping up with reading this thread so far but wasn't going to add much input until I get my laptop back soon (using an iPhone for now which I'm new to typing on) but wanted to show that I'm present, can't wait. For theme nights, I think the ideas are great so far, hard to think of a new one to add.

Here's a list of the movies I've watched during the last 8 challenges to give you some ideas (no one complained about me listing any of them yet):

Also it would take four Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors episodes to count as one entry correct.

Yeah, a few of them are questionable, but those were usually listed as "Horror" on IMDb and I went into them expecting a horror movie, so I went ahead and listed them after I watched them.

Eh, I guess I'm down for a subset.
Kudos on numbering your complete totals! This'll give me something to do once I get a break from the Criterion challenge.

I started that cumulative list of the movies I've watched a couple years ago, mostly to help remind me what I'd watched during previous challenges so I wouldn't have too many repeat viewings. Since I had it, I included it with my challenge lists so I can keep track of when I hit 1000 different movies watched.

I've been giving a subset pick ever since my first year participating, so I'll keep the tradition going.

I am in for a subset pick if any remain.
If looking for additional theme night ideas here are some; I don't remember what all have been done:
High Altitude - involving airplanes, mountain peaks, or some other high elevation. [i.e. Flight of the Dead, Frozen, Altitude, Night Flyer, etc]
Off Beat [Musical] Horror - involving music or musical instruments [i.e. Black Roses, Slumber Party Massacre II, Opera, Poulterygeist, Little Shop of Horrors, etc]
Hump Day Horrors - work related stuff [i.e. Severence, Copycat Killer, Intruder, Alien Raiders, Shaun of the Dead, maybe Army of Darkness (S-mart bit), etc]
So Bad It's Good - rated below 30% or less on Rotten Tomatoes (stolen from exploitation challenge).
Rest in Peace - movies involving actors/directors/etc who are now deceased.

^14 down ...16 to go. Almost halfway there.
It was on the list, then I took it off after reading this article. Maybe I'm overthinking it?
Added. Another hybrid theme that goes together like peanut butter and jelly. I was surprised that both produced 163 titles on an IMDB search.
And they would generate enough for two themes, although some of the titles weren't that accessible or well known; together they complete one another.
I always avoided Musical horrors because I thought there was a lack of titles ...IMDB Advanced Search once again proves me wrong (98).
I'd love to do that last one, but have no clue how to search for it and have a feeling compiling a list would be a nightmare.
Maybe combine it with horror westerns since some of them go hand-in-hand (like Eyes of Fire, Grim Prairie Tales, The Shadow of Chikara)? I was surprised to not find a horror western theme on any of the past lists.

I don't see anything wrong with including the splat pack... that article was a little negative to say the least, but Maniac was awesome... if you include writing, acting, directing and producing credits it would be a slew of movies.

Alright, I'm convinced. The only way to get everything is to provide individual links for each person, so that's what I'll do:
Alexandre Aja
Darren Lynn Bousman
Neil Marshall
Greg McLean
Eli Roth
Robert Rodriguez
James Wan
Leigh Whannell
Rob Zombie

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3
Just to recap ...here's the new ones we have so far:
"Inspired By True Events" Horror (The Conjuring, Psycho, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, The Entity)
Family-Friendly Horror (The Monster Squad, The Gate, Gremlins, Lady in White)
Aquatic Horror - Yes, we had "Jawsploitation" in the past, but this covers more ground.
Peter Cushing Centennial
Body Horror (David Cronenberg films, From Beyond, Tetsuo, The Iron Man, Altered States)
Telephone Horrors - anything where a ringing telephone is a plot point, although it doesn't have to be the central theme. (Black Christmas, The Caller, 976-EVIL, Pulse)
B&W Horror Films - replaces what was going to be 1950's horror.
Killer Dolls / Puppets
BatShitCrazy Horror Films (Hausu, Mystics in Bali, The Stuff, Killer Condom)
Ice Terrors - films with snow and ice; Christmas-themed films obviously play a big part. (Pontypool, The Thing, Curtains, Let the Right One In)
Home Invasion Horror (The House by the Cemetery, You're Next, Torso, Lady in a Cage)
Death by Decapitation - The IMDB lists over 600 films.
Killer Clowns / Theme Park / Circus / Carnival Horrors
Musical Horror Films (Repo: The Genetic Opera, Sweeney Todd, Slumber Party Massacre II, Black Roses)
The Splat Pack - Anything from the above aforementioned.

Wow. Really?! I was thinking that with Repo, RHPS, Little Shop of Horrors and Sweeney Todd it wouldn't matter that there aren't many, because those four are excellent. But there's nearly 100 more out there somewhere...? Great!

Love those categories so far...nice to see Family Friendly horror included, because I have a couple I've been meaning to watch.
I'm assuming that Toys (Demonic and such) can fall under the Killer Dolls/puppets category. There was a cool Stephen King short with William Hurt from Nightmares and Dreamscapes a few years back that I highly recommend.
What about something to cover horror icons? I know with the Psycho sequels and the Friday the 13th boxset hitting blu-ray soon and so many other franchises remaining popular we will have a lot of people watching films featuring Jason, Norman, Pinhead, Freddy, The Amityville House, etc...so maybe a fun theme night? Possibly an alternative to last year's remakes/sequels approach. Anyway, just for your consideration.
