All this talk of my favorite things combined (horror, sweets, and cartoony characters) is making me a-subset-choice-of-a-couple-years-ago.

Any decisions made on the wildcards being scrapped.

Not yet, but I'll get to that and some other issues raised in the planning thread soon.

In the meantime, whoever has an opinion on the matter, well, share it.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Wow! This is up early! As usual, I'm really looking forward to this, though I have some mixed feelings this year. Unlike last year, I'm employed. Yay! It's a great job, incredible benefits and quite a bit more than I've ever made before; however, this job is not one of those 40 hours a week type of jobs. I have to be at events after work hours and on the weekend, and October is apparently the busiest month of the year. FUCK! We even have an event that we have to attend the nights of Oct. 30 and 31! Double FUCK! I'm tentatively planning on taking Nov. 1 off so I can stay up all night but still ...

Needless to say, I vote in favor of wildcards because I can see myself using one or two on some work-related stuff. It's going to be rough trying to get to 100 this year, but I'll give it a go. The really sad thing is that I have a lot of vacation time building up, but I'm not sure if they will even allow me to take any of it in October. *sigh* We shall see. I'm excited, nonetheless!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

A couple of new bluray releases in September that should heighten my Horror Challenge experience-

John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness- which I don't think that I have ever seen. ( or at least don't remember seeing )
Dracula- Prince of Darkness- I have a cheap copy of this and will use this to replace it.
Any of the Universal Horror releases due on the 17th- They are already released but these are being released individually so I can buy the ones I like and forget about the ones that I don't like.

And not to be outdone- The Vincent Price Collection - but this is to be released in late October. Hopefully i'll have this before the challenge ends.

Why does October have to start on a Tuesday and end on a Thursday?

Ladies and Gentlemen... I, for one, support the continued use of wildcards. I don't recall them being much of a problem in the past and they keep things fun allowing borderline content into the tally. No one is forced to use them if they don't want to (I typically try to avoid wild cards). I like the traditional counting rules allowing TV shows at 1/4 ratio to feature films and it is important to keep the challenge "pure" but no reason not to allow some splurging in isolated instances. Wild cards might also reduce arguments because if something is contested there's a loophole.

Great choices, the Joe Bob Briggs commentary for I Spit On Your Grave should be essential for any film fan. Wild Zero really impressed me too, so much better than it would seem at first glance... I need to revisit Wild Zero this year. Thank you for posting your list, that's a good idea.

Don't overlook the Friday the 13th set, watching back-to-back Friday the 13th films in a marathon was a highlight for me a few years back and I'm excited to repeat.

I don't mind wildcards when they're used legitimately and not for something like Spider Man. Using them on horror tv episodes, or short films or anything like that is fine by me.

Trick 'r Treat?

And I'm suddenly getting a sense of Deja vu for some reason.

Doubt it. To my knowledge GG is only for the TV shows, movies and sporting events themselves, but not events like this that cover them. I guess it couldn't hurt asking though.

Ha!

"More movies! More prizes! More frights! More fights! More....Spiderman?"

BTW I have been considering a few of the Wizard VHSs as one of the prize packs. However I am unwilling to comment on their....er...veracity as originals and I honestly don't want to make a big deal of it either. But they are beautiful boxes and just plain cool titles IMO. I think I can fit two safely in a priority mail box.

Zombie and Oasis of the Zombies?

I apologize for this mental image everyone, but didn't we have a subset choice called Hard?

I checked two grocers for the cereal so far. No luck.

I plan to mainly focus on my unwatched MC titles, but do plan to revisit old favorites like my Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

This challenge is a real treasure. I look forward to it and also to busting out some horror themed books and video games.

Sounds good to me, but let's hear opinions from the people that win the prizes.

Don't think I had the opportunity to participate last year. Not too sure about this year with school going on and all, but we'll see as the time approaches

Question. I have the Alien Predator Complete Destruction Collection, and according to imdb, only Alien has a Horror tag. Would any of the other movies be eligible, in anyone's opinion?

AllMovie.com (another valid source for genre in challenges) shows the entire series, including the AvP ones, to be Sci-Fi Horror or Action Horror. They are eligible. Except for Predators - it's the only one without a Horror genre attached. I find it odd as it's roughly the same theme as the first 2 Predator films.
