Superman: Brainiac Attacks OAR

I found this movie in the bin at Walmart. It says it's 4:3 and imdb lists it at 4:3, but the blu-ray is widescreen. Is this a case of the movie being animated 4:3 but capable of being cropped without looking wonky ?

I haven't seen any screenshot comparisons between the two, but...!

It was a 2006 production, and by that point, Warner should've been animating everything widescreen. For instance, Mystery of the Batwoman from 2003 was animated in 16x9, but it was center-cropped to 4x3 on DVD, and it wasn't seen in widescreen until the recent Blu-ray release. I can't imagine they'd be natively animating in 4x3 as recently as 2006.

Shouldn't this be in the DVD forum section?

How slow is it over there now?

It was animated in 16x9 and only released in 4:3 on DVD because it was originally aimed at children. I have no idea why people pay any attention to most of the listings on IMDB. The technical information is laughably inaccurate most of the time.

The Blu-ray looks great and comes with a UV copy.

I guess if I like the movie, I can pick up the blu-ray. The dvd was only 5 bucks out of the bin. I also found the blu-ray online for 5 dollars. Is the movie any good ? I've heard some pretty bad reviews.

It's not good. Around the time it came out I was buying nearly everything Superman related on DVD, and I couldn't bring myself to buy this.

The Blu-ray could be found at one time for $7.88, in Walmart's bargain bins. It's a solid direct-to-video movie. It is less polished than most of the preceding animated DC efforts in terms of story, but is perfectly watchable for Superman's fans. Think of it as a cheap knock-off of Superman: The Animated Series.

As late as 2009, Warner released that crapola "volume 1" of the Clone Wars TV series in WS non-cropped but also non-anamorphic. -ohbfrank-

I've always stayed away from it because of the Amazon reviews.

I just finished it. It's nowhere near as bad as the morons on amazon make it out to be. Sure, it's not as good as the animated series, but for the most part, it fits right in with the show. Except for Lex Luthor, all the main characters had the proper voices. It's probably my least favourite of the DC animated movies, not counting the recent Dark Knight movies, which I completely put out of my mind as not existing. I don't know, though, if I like it enough to pick up the blu-ray. It's well worth a watch every now and then, though.
