How to clean glue from DVD edges?

I've had problems with some recent sets (Universal Horrors Blu-ray in particular) in that the DVDs stick to the glue that's intended to hold the cardboard sleeves together, and there's a bit of glue on the edge of the discs and even a slight bit on the surface. Should one try and remove this, and with what? Googone?

If it isn't causing playback problems I'd leave it alone.

I'd give Goo Gone a shot...otherwise just let it go if it's not causing playback issues...but Goo Gone is probably safe to use without worrying about damaging your discs.

You can also use a bit of scotch tape. It will lift off the glue easily.

^I've used a similar product, De-Solv-It, for years to remove glue/residue from stickers on CD jewel boxes, DVD cases, and DVDs (both sides) with no ill effects. IMHO it works better than Goo-Gone. I always follow up the application of De-Solv-It with rubbing alcohol to remove the slightly oily film it leaves behind. Just be careful on label sides (and do *not* use on the label side of a CD) as it *will* remove the ink if used with enough force or left on/used long enough. Short applications with gentle rubbing is safe.
