Just finished my last movie!

The TOTAL (including all the movies, TV shows & Wild Cards) came to 129!

I don't know if this has been suggested, but it would make it much easier on Chad if participants not only numbered their lists but totaled them as well. It makes it MUCH easier to tally First Time Viewings, etc. if they are are totaled on the lists. I know it was driving me nuts going through each list counting * and other symbols or colors.

Out of all the horror challenges I've done, I was sad to see this one end....All because of that b!tch Sandy for getting in the way of things!

Ended up reaching 213 watched. I thought about 180 would've been a desired goal in the early going, But I was able to recieve a few 24-hour days from the 23rd to the 25th which gave me a boost. From there, 200 was a goal...But ended up tallying 13 more at the end. Just 15 less from last year's endurance test. It's official. The DVR is the devil.

Looking forward to getting to my annual-awards list later on in the day (Waay too pooped right now) But, umm, I've at least added some visual goodies to my list in the meantime.

Yeah, I'm definetly relieving Chad and bringing the calculator out to count all those corpses and boobs before my list gets fully finalized. I was stunned to see him go through that last year. Poor guy!

BTW, since others were mentioning what their last-viewed movies were for the month, I had it locked on TCM (But only watched Osbourne's intros & outros) It was cool to hear that Son of Frankenstein is his favorite Universal Monster movie. I also found it very interesting that the 2nd to last Horror movie that TCM showed was Island/Lost Souls which happened to be the very first movie I watched for this challenge. A very nice "Full-Circle" feeling for this particular horrorthon!

Well, it was an enjoyable month. I didn't watch anything else after Halloweentown, but at least I got over 31 movies for the month. Not near as good as past years, but I just took it kind of easy this year.

Made it to 31, averaging one a day. Only ten first-time viewings, but they included two Japanese classics, ONIBABA and KURONEKO. Of the repeat viewings, several were masterpieces that I hadn't seen in decades, including INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956), ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1933), THE INVISIBLE MAN (1933) and DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE (1932). You really do need to revisit the classics on a regular basis. I'd also forgotten how good the anime TV series, "Vampire Princess Miyu" (1997) is, a splendid mix of horror and poetry as only Japanese animators can do.

I ended up at 207, which was roughly my goal, as I had planned to reach 210 or so. 54 of them were first-time viewings, most of which ended up being junk, but at least the majority were entertaining. The absolute worst were Haunted, Deadly Intruder and The Dark Power, but Night of the Demon, Evil Judgment, and The Hearse were also tough going. The best first-time viewing was The Other, although Tormented and Kingdom of the Spiders were both pleasant surprises, and I liked The Magician quite a bit. The award for weirdest first-time viewing goes to Bloody Wednesday. Also, thanks to the challenge, I've now seen Killer Party three times, which is at least twice more than any sane person should.

The Void

I made it to 19 which I consider good for me. I'm married with a 4 year old and a 5 month old so I don't have much free time to watch movies.

I had some great first time viewings like The Shining, Cabin in the Woods, The Mist. The worst movie I watched had to be Village of the Damned (1995). I'm a big Carpenter fan but this was overall pretty lame and I had to force myself to finish it.

Glad I participated despite my lowly numbers.

After changing my plans from Ernest Scared Stupid to a Abbott and Costello mini-thon I realized I needed the Ernest film for the Halloween theme night check! So back out it came to get finished. I'd watched the first half hour of it, then Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, and finished with Scared Stupid. It felt like Ernest, Bud Abbott, and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein Scared Stupid... Of course doing that killed being able to watch the last of the A&C monster mashups, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy, last night so it'll be the first one today for the comedy challenge!

What I want to know is just *how*, after focusing on my "unopened" pile, did that pile not shrink appreciably?

I didn't hit my goal of 150, but I made it to 131, with 59 First-Time Viewings (FTVs). My final film was an entertaining, Peter Cushing + kung fu collaboration between the Shaw Brothers and Hammer, The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. I finished the checklist and the theme nights, but I fell short on the subset. Next year, I'll knock out all 3.

This was the most fun I've ever had with the challenge. I managed to wrack up a hefty (for me) total of 62! That almost doubles my previous best. I finished up last night with Pumpkinhead, although I admittedly dozed off through most of it. Good thing I've seen it, like, a zillion times.

I finished the Theme Night checklist but none of the others. There were just too many items for which I had no qualifying title (I do not stream nor rent unless it's free) and many of those were for films from the past 10 or so years. An era (actually from the mid-70s on) I generally avoid due to the overwhelming trend for those films to be "slasher" types - a sub-genre for which I have no taste or desire to view.

I didn't even come close to 100, but never thought I would anyway. I ended up with 53; my personal goal was 60, so I fell short there too. Still, the challenge (my first) was pretty fun; I found some good new movies - and some not so good, but still memorable.

I've got a question, though. When it comes to counting first time viewings, how should I count short films and TV episodes?

I'm not Chad, but what I would do is look at all my TV shows, and for every 120 minutes that was FTV, I'd count it as 1; same for shorts with 90 minutes. I wouldn't bother with fractions.

We spent a couple hours setting up all kinds of Halloween displays and lights, sounds, etc, and NOT ONE trick-or-treater! I guess I have to get use to living in rural America. Lots of time I could have been watching movies! By the end of the night I burned out quick. But I'm pleased with my total, 110. More than I expected to get, for sure.


Are you thinking that to qualify for the Theme Night drawing you only watch the theme for the day and do not deviate? Wasn't sure how much of the integrity you are trying to protect. And thanks for your opinion on my situation. Don't want to have any issues if I were to win SOMETHING for the first time in FIVE YEARS... cough... cough...


In the past I've always counted FTVs for TV and shorts as separate watches, as they technically are. I wouldn't think that would skew the FTV totals, as that should be counted different than total entries to begin with. I guess it depends on the perspective. I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up before.
