For that thread as well, but perhaps one tact for the checklist is what we've been doing in some of the other Challenges and have entire sections be optional. Another thing is having more individual freedom by having a list of 15-20 items but one only needing to watch 10 to complete the section.
I've always liked the idea of the actor and director requirements but never having to do them. Well, this has mainly been true the last couple of years. We used to use people who were more universally recognized. I think we have increasingly gone toward the fringe, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't know. Maybe the people who are listed would be better served by dropping them from the checklist and incorporating them into the theme day and daily subset. We could have a Vincent Price theme day or a Wes Craven day, etc. Just a thought.

I get that, too, but sometimes it can also be a distraction when done poorly. It's definitely something you need to get used to when you first start watching them.

Well... I don't *love* it but it *is* a bit of trashy Corman fun! I'm trying to concentrate on my "unopened" pile (the main reason for selecting The Terror Beneath the Sea as my theme day choice) but might have to throw that one in "just because"...

For those who are watching the subset films and don't want to watch Dead Of Night (1945) on youtube, I just checked their schedule on TCM. It is showing tonight at 12:30am CST/1:30 EST.
Thanks to Mister Peepers for mentioning this in the reviews thread. I prefer Cable/DVR to Youtube any day.
Also note that The Innocents (1961) is showing right after Dead of Night. I highly recommend this ghost story if you haven't seen it. It has an outstanding performance by Deborah Kerr and is extremely creepy.

Very dark, twisted, and funny although it *does* drag at times. Absolutely horror and also qualifies for the "cannibalism" and "comedy" checklist items. The aspect ratio is messed up on the DVD but not so bad as to make it unwatchable.

24 more movies to add to the pile.
A little worried about the Midnight Horror Collections -- I have another volume in this series, and I liked a grand total of 1 out of the 8 movies.

It seems like FIVE pages popped up while I was asleep last night. Pardon me while I catch up on some items:
Also interesting is much of what you listed is cut out of the international version, which most feel is faster paced and more intense (Kubrick cut 23 minutes for international audiences, as he believed them to be “smarter” and not needing so much fluff). So yeah, seemingly incidental is spot-on.
Congrats! Would have been sooner, but I was sleeping...
Always choose Argento when you put him up against a franchise sequel. I'd say always in general, but Jenifer changed my trust in him quite a bit. Glad you liked it, though.
Great read, as always. Colin must have affected me a little different. Also, I had to re-watch the last 10 minutes of The Sentinel four times, I kept falling asleep. Slow burning is right. I liked it, though.
Awesome! And the girl thing seems to keep coming up... pardon us. And as for where you're from, every time I see "Perth" in your Location it makes me think of some stories Jason Ellis tells regarding that area. Which is either funny to you or you couldn’t care less. His name seems to get both reactions.
Don't, I like it. No-one is apologizing for me watching The Stuff.
(see my OHMC list pic to see why that should be funny)
I agree. It's funny that even the English speaking actors can't seem to match the words. I'm sure that's more equipment/cost limitations of the time as well.
The one at the bottom of the pic is one of the most fun packs I ever bought! I love that set.
Afterward, we talked a lot about the various theories about Kubrick's horror masterpiece. One of my friends is a big movie fan and always has some great trivia and thoughts to contribute. I was really interested with the large about of seemingly incidental pop culture in The Shining. There is a Bugs Bunny cartoon, Peanuts decals, a Mickey Mouse sweater, and various Disney toys throughout. However, with the exception of the sweater, these are all set dressings and Danny never plays with his Goofy or Winnie the Pooh dolls. Don't know what to think about it but found it interesting.
Posted today's blog entry before heading to bed (have to get up early or else I'd knock another movie out). This has been one of my favorite days so far! http://celluloidterror.blogspot.com/...012-day-9.html

I agree for the most part but I'd swap Last Woman on Earth for The Terror. Of the 3 bolded titles I'd rank 'em Little Shop of Horrors, Bucket of Blood (in a very close tie for first), and then Last Woman on Earth. It's also safe to say that Attack of the Giant Leeches and Creature from the Haunted Sea are only *marginally* better than She Gods of Shark Reef. I, too, have never seen Swamp Women (or have blocked the memory if I did).

Ah, gotcha. Hmm, another cartoon series? Interesting. I've only watched the one and of course, the original live action series. Will have to look it up.

About to re-watch Wes Craven's Swamp Thing for the first time since I was about twelve. I have the uncut DVD but not with me at the moment, so I'll have to settle for Netflix which probably doesn't have the boobies. Oh, well.

I know that thrillers are a touchy subject for some of you purists. I don't count all of them, usually only the ones with supernatural tones or some other qualifier. Have never watched David Lynch's Inland Empire. Anyone think it would count?

You'd have to add the 2011 and 2012 stuff. Somebody said they were going to do it this year but I forget who.

Anything can be a wild card. Yay.
I found Gayracula online. Guys from old porn are more attractive because they have real bodies instead of the juiced out twinks one see nowadays. Tim Kramer, in particular, was one good -lookin' fella. Sadly, the cast all succumbed to a real-life horror.

IMDb really does seem to be wrong with some of those genres. At least horror should be third or fourth for the thrillers I check on. For the IMDb purists, maybe next year we should have a couple "Thriller" cards. They wouldn't be as flexible as a WC (no shorts, unrelated subjects, etc). But it would put this "Thriller" issue at bay, and still allow for feature film counts toward the total. Maybe I'll bring this up in the post discussion thread.

I was debating including Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, because although it's listed as a thriller on IMDB, it features gruesome deaths from spontaneous combustion and has supernatural elements, like people being able to change their appearance at will and a talking deer, plus the usual flying wire fu. Maybe I'll wild card it.
Is this the actual rule? I always thought it had to be somehow at least slightly related; like a thriller or a kiddie show with ghosts or some scary elements. Something like a pure comedy or drama with no scares or Halloween would never count imo.
I'd say so, but I'll look for any excuse to watch a Lynch film. It is heavy on the psychological horror, and it's more twisted/intense than a thriller tag can handle. Twin Peaks FWWM is horror, and IE holds the horror element a little more steady, but in a crazy, Lynchian way.

That sounds like one not needing a wildcard to me. I want to find it; love spontaneous combustion. Happened to me once......I got better.

I figured that part was understood. I don't think anyone is going to try to count the Care Bears. But anything that is at least tangentially related to horror or Halloween would be allowed, and given that there is an actual psycho killer item in the checklist, Strangers on a Train should be a wild card. If there had been a few more murders or had more of a horror feel, like Psycho, Frenzy, or The Birds . . .
