Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Sub-question: Will you upgrade/have you already?
For me it's a yes: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg & http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg For Ghostbusters yes, I have been waiting these last 10 years for them to put some new fucking features on a disc. But when they finally do I am in. As for the 4 pack, probably not. I could see myself buying a Cyborg box set though... |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I never upgraded my first DVD, ZU WARRIORS OF THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN, but I did upgrade the second and third, MILLIONAIRES' EXPRESS (aka SHANGHAI EXPRESS), which came out in a much better copy from Dragon Dynasty in 2007, and IRON MONKEY, which I bought in Blu-ray last year. All the original purchases were HK imports bought in Chinatown.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I bought a couple at the same time, but the first one I grabbed was Phantasm. I still have it, almost upgraded when they had the version that had randomly autographed posters in there, but I didn't do it. I'd buy a blu-ray version of the series if it came out.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Yup, I still have the first dvd I ever bought. Haven't upgraded though.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Yes, I never get rid of my discs.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I still have them. One featured two episodes from Hercules featuring Xena. The othe is the first issue of 12 Monkees.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I won't swear to it but I'm fairly certain that this is the first DVD I ever bought:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg I probably won't upgrade it, it already has all the features I could want and the video is good enough for me. -kd5- |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Just mentioned it in another thread, but I still my first DVD. The Devil's Advocate. It's the long-discontinued uncensored version, so I'll be hanging on to it.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Gladiator. For some odd reason, I haven't purchased it on Blu-ray yet, so it's my only copy of the film.
TLK  |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Yup:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg But once it makes it to blu, I'm sure I will get rid of it. |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I no longer have my first DVD, it was the original Classic Media Terror of Mechagodzilla, from the $5 bin at Wal Mart, as I have since lost it in a move. I have since upgraded to the new Classic Media release of it however.

I bought two
Tomorrow Never Dies-first release direct from theaters. Still have Goldfinger-first release in snapcase. No longer have |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I still have the first DVD I purchased, which was the first Criterion release of The Third Man. Haven't upgraded, despite it being my official "favorite movie".

Keeping track of different cuts of Hong Kong films is never easy. I've held onto my letterboxed English-dubbed legit VHS copy of THE CHINATOWN KID because it's 25 min. longer than the so-called "restored" R3 release from Celestial Pictures. I have two different cuts of THE HEROIC ONES on VHS, one English-dubbed and one in Mandarin with subs. I have yet to compare them to the DVD/Blu-ray releases to see which version is on the disc. |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I still own one of the three first DVDs I purchased: This is Spinal Tap. Fantasia has been supplanted by the Blu-ray, and I sold my Gladiator disc years ago.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I do and I just watched it again fairly recently.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
The first DVD I purchased was Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It was also the first VHS tape I bought with my own money when I was in middle school and a collection of Monty Python songs was the first CD I got, too. Forgot about that when I started picking up blu-rays last year...
Anyway, I ordered it when I was in college, probably at Reel.com, before I even had a DVD player. I knew I was getting a computer within the next year and it would have a DVD drive so getting a bargain on one of my favorite movies sooner rather than later made sense. I had it shipped to my parent's house. I came home one weekend, opened the package, thought it was so cool, forgot to bring it back to campus with me, and then my parents finished packing up and moved, the DVD forever lost. Never saw it again. I have bought it again twice since then (the second time as that big black special edition thing with the script in it) but not yet on blu-ray. The next DVD I bought, again before I had a DVD player, was the Stanley Kubrick Box Set and while I hadn't see half the movies I went for it. I can't remember the price but it felt like a steal. And yes, I still have it... though I have yet to watch Barry Lyndon from it... |
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Yes and no. My first DVD was Criterion's Brazil. I still have it, but I've since replaced it's first disc with the anamorphic re-release.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Laura Croft: Tomb Raider. I got rid of it:D

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I'm pretty sure I still have my original "Blade Runner" disc somewhere, although I double or triple dipped on it and now have the Blu-ray. I still have my original Toshiba player from 1998 which works great, although it's on a bedroom tv that is rarely used. I remember it was $225+shipping marked down from $299. It has a single pickup (or whatever it's called) so it won't play any homemade dvd or cd.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
I don't recall the first one I bought so I'm not sure. I know the first DVD I ever received (as a gift) was Seven Samurai, and that I did upgrade when Criterion release that 3DVD special edition a few years back.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
My first group of DVDs stayed with the ex-g/f so I can't remember which one was the first. I'm sure I re-purchased the ones I wanted.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
The first DVD I ever received was Saving Private Ryan before I even had a DVD player. The first DVD I actually bought myself was The Matrix. Even though I have upgraded versions of both (on DVD and Blu-ray), I've still kept them.

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
First DVD was Contact. Still have it. Wouldn't upgrade.
|
Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Yes and no. I bought three at once. Zero Effect, Out of Sight, Starship Troopers. I still have the first two, but I've upgraded Starship Troopers on both DVD and Blu-ray and did sell my original copy way back when.
