Excellent series wrap-up to The Bionic Woman and one that deeply reflects actress Lindsay Wagner's feelings towards her bionic character and how it had taken over her life. Great writing and as usual a superb performance by Lindsay who always managed to ground the series with real emotion and humanity.

The “Paper Sisters” act as bodyguards for a Japanese writer of popular fiction when she visits Hong Kong. They then return to Japan with her. They have the power to use pieces of paper as weapons. Sequel to an OAV (made-for-video) series called “R.O.D. – Read or Die.”

3a. Adventures of the Road Runner (1962/U.S., 26 min., animated TV pilot) DVD (Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2)
Awkward attempt to take old cartoon clips and add bridging footage to make a half-hour TV show. One whole segment, about daydreamer Ralph Phillips, has nothing at all to do with the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. Wile E. talks in this one.

3b. Bug’s and Daffy’s ‘Carnival of the Animals’ by Camille Saint Saens (1976/U.S. 24 min., animated TV special) DVD (Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 5)
Bugs and Daffy play the piano and recite lyrics by Ogden Nash as Michael Tilson Thomas leads a live orchestra in a performance of the title piece. Aimed at children. Could have used some gags that were, y’know, funny?

5. Mystery Science Theater 3000: “The Violent Years” Season 7/#10, first aired October 8, 1994. DVD.
This is one of the better ones. Mike and the crew are very funny and the film itself, a female juvenile delinquent melodrama from 1956 with an unforgettable script by Ed Wood, is one-of-a-kind. Preceded by a hilarious color “educational” short, “Young Man’s Fancy” (1952).

Jones does all of his own riding and most of his own stunts. Cheaply made, but full of action. Real Indian actors play the Indians in the first episode. Produced by Gene Autry.

“The Return of Owny O’Reilly” (Season 3/Ep. #5, first aired Oct. 16, 1960, 25 min., b&w) Dir.: Stuart Heisler. Guest stars: Joel Grey, Lee Van Cleef. Joel Grey as a comical layabout who becomes a deputy and goes after outlaw Lee Van Cleef. Interesting contrast of personalities.

30b. Have Gun Will Travel (U.S., western TV series, CBS) VHS (taped off Western Channel) Star: Richard Boone.
“The Long Hunt” (Season 2/ Ep. #25, first aired March 7, 1959, 25 min., b&w) Dir.: Andrew V. McLaglen. Paladin is hired to go on a hunt for a fugitive in the mountains and begins to see that the guy who hired him may be the real bad guy. Simple and talky, but it’s all filmed on location.

The first ep. is about rationing during the war and the second is about women who served during the war. 98% of each episode is archival film and photographic footage, including propaganda films made by Hollywood and the government. The second ep. includes some color footage from the period.

Another action-packed early ‘50s half-hour western. Like “Buffalo Bill Jr.” (see #20), this one features Dickie Jones and was produced by Gene Autry. Mahoney was a former stuntman and does most of his own stunts here. He’s billed here as "Jack Mahoney."

Three Texas Rangers seem more interested in getting a piece of a prospector’s gold stake than in tracking down a renegade Indian and his band. Too light-hearted for my tastes, although Neville Brand is always fun to watch.

“The Bleymier Story” (Season 4 / Ep. #8, first aired on November 16, 1960, 50 min., b&w) Guest stars: Dan Duryea, James Drury. The wagon train has to contend with rain, wind, mud, a tornado, Sioux Indians, and a crazed passenger played by Duryea who tries to shield his 17-year-old daughter from a pre-Virginian James Drury.

#1: Target: Metropolitan Tokyo
#2: The Assault of Shiten, Warlord of Demon
This is the original version of a series which ran on Cartoon Network in a dubbed, edited version called “Ronin Warriors.” The DVD of Volume 1 has both versions. This has some great apocalyptic scenes of Tokyo after an attack by ancient demon warriors.

Star: Julie Andrews. This DVD offers a kinescope of a live broadcast from March 31, 1957. Not a great musical, but always nice to see Julie in her prime. I first saw this show when they redid it in the 1960s with Lesley Ann Warren in the title role.
