Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown (2008) is on YouTube for anyone interested in a 90 minute documentary about H.P. Lovecraft that is apparently very good and has several celebrity participants (John Carpenter, Stuart Gordon, Guillermo Del Toro, etc).

I'm actually way ahead of last year's pace. I guess I'm not really too surprised because I'm a bit more into this year than I was last year. I wish I could squeeze more into each day simply because there are so.freaking.many. titles that I'd love to watch.
I really like Jennifer's Body too. The first time I saw it I didn't care for it all that much, but it grew on me with subsequent viewings and is now a guilty pleasure flick for me. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point before the end of the month.

Also I'm glad to see so much response both negative and positive for Jennifer's Body. I liked it the first time I saw it but watching it again for the challenge got me to appreciate it more.
My 11 hour work/class day is over. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak in Dust Devil before the end of the night

Sapphire and Steel DVD - 'The Man Without A Face' - Four parts - (1981) - Sapphire and Steel face one of their most powerful foes, a creature who exists in every photograph ever taken. Unsettling, just really unsettling.
I guess I sorta made a David McCallum night of it. Of the six Sapphire and Steel adventures this is the one that crawls down your craw and twists your guts. One of these days I'll have to watch Adventure six, 'The Trap' and finally finish the series off.

Nice choice. I wish the director did more.

So to anyone who just watched American Horror Story, what do you think? I think it could go either way. The daughter and her friend are already kind of annoying me though.
Oh and my blog entry for day 5 is done since whatever I decide on watching right now will carry into tomorrow... check it out here http://celluloidterror.blogspot.com/...nge-day-5.html

Watched Haute Tension for French night. Should've watched something new, but alas, I didn't. I just love this movie more every time that I watch it.. which is often.
Followed it up with The Mummy & The Invisible Man. Somehow, I never watched the latter so it was a treat. Universal Horror & October go so well together.
On an unrelated and trite note, I cannot get any smilies to show in my October list. I used them last year, but can't seem to now. Anyone with an idea what I am doing wrong? I have tried all sorts of things and nada.

Had a friend come over tonight, and he wanted to watch a horror movie. With such a vast collection to choose from, it was just my luck that he chose Inside. I bought the U.S. DVD when it was first released due to all the praise, but what a disappointment. It didn't improve when I gave it a second chance, and this third time around didn't do it any favors either. French horror seems to be all the rage among fellow genre fans these days, but where films like Haute Tension and Martyrs succeed at being more than envelope-pushing for the sheer hell of it, Inside fails miserably. He liked it though, and I finally rid myself of the DVD by giving it to him, so at least there's that.
Next up, a double feature in honor of Lisa Blount, who passed away late last year. Prince of Darkness and Dead & Buried are both among my personal horror top 10, and she leaves a strong impression in both of them, especially the latter (the syringe scene, yikes).

So ... yeah ... Martyrs ... hmm. Not exactly sure what I think about it quite yet. Hard to say I liked it, but it was sort of interesting. I guess. Certainly dark.
Speaking of Martyrs, what's it rated? IMDB has R, but then again, there's a cover/poster of the movie right next to the title on that page with a big UNRATED. I went to Amazon Canada, where I got the Blu-ray, and there's no MPAA rating in the product details, even though that is included for other titles. The only thing I can find on the cover is a Canadian Home Video Rating of 18. How does that translate for checklist purposes?

Never mind. I'm putting Martyrs as unrated. DVDCompare.net says the Canadian Blu-ray didn't have any cuts, and neither did the U.S. DVD release. Amazon shows the U.S. DVD release as Unrated. Ta duh! I can figure things out on my own sometimes!

I'll be watching Dead & Buried when I wake up tomorrow, my first viewing of the Blu. A highly underrated movie imo.
The day I figured out that option existed I felt really dumb

Has anyone seen the French film "With a Friend Like Harry"? I got turned on to it by a friend when it came out and it's really a fun, dark flick. I should pull it for the challenge since it's been a few years since I last watched it.

I believe Richard Stanley is still Writing and doing Short Films.
Also he really spoiled us with Hardware and Dust Devil
Just finished watching Dust Devil. It might be that it's shot beautifully and scored the same, or maybe I appreciate it's simplicity, but I love the film!

I had a 50/50 day
The Horde
London After Midnight
Night Of The Day Of The Dawn Of The Son Of The Bride Of The Return Of The Revenge Of The Terror Of The Attack Of The Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 3
Hellraiser 8: Hellworld
The first two were good and the last two were bad. On Hellraiser, it seemed like they couldn't quite figure out how to end it. It looked like what happens when you have a brainstorming session, can't figure out what to do, so you just take all the ideas and mash them together.

Tonight I watched Godzilla: King Of The Monsters for the first time. I had only seen a few brief bits from the film on TV previously, but thought I should finally view it. It was pretty good, and amusing how obvious it was when they added in the Raymond Burr scenes since the film stock appearance shifts drastically and so forth, though it's not 'that' badly done overall, especially for the time period. I'll have to see the original Japanese version someday, which Criterion is rumored to be working on.
I then watched Basket Case 2, and that's a pretty fun film as well. It's been years since I had seen it, and I think I enjoyed it more than I did in the past where I had a love/hate opinion on it as a kid sort of liking it, then not liking it. It technically shouldn't exist with the ending of the first film, but they work around it and it's all played for laughs pretty much, with the hospital moments at the start being pretty amusing. And while it's pretty tame in the gore department since it was filmed with an R rating in mind and ya know how strict the MPAA was then. It's still a pretty twisted film with a few wild over the top moments in it especially the finale. Demented is a good word to describe the film.
Oh and add me to the list of those who didn't like Martyrs at all, or Inside. The only 'extreme' French horror flick that impressed me so far has been High Tension, though I haven't seen that in years and need to watch it again to see whether I still like it or not. But all the other 'extreme' French films I've seen just bored me and were laughable in many ways as they try to hard to be 'extreme' and depressing. And it amazes me the praise some of these films receive, since I just don't see it at all when viewing them.

Balls.
Just when I think I've got every horrorthon-category to do stats by, I get assaulted with one that I've yet to include=Characters vomiting. I've already ran into three of 'em for this challenge (Legend of Sorrow Creek,Hatchet II,Dreamaniac) Possibly forgot another.
Speaking of Dreamaniac, I still can't decide if that was agonizingly bad or good bad. It starred xxx queen Ashlyn Gere and I wasn't surprised to imdb the director to see that he was involved with gay porn. There sure was an awful lot of man-flesh on display.
At least I got to see BEER again!!!!!!

You're all right, I was being silly. Will finally open my BD as well.
I think I'll be watching some Goosebumps this month.
My work partner said this was very good. Looking forward to seeing it on Hulu someday.
I think every OHMC I say that I'm finally going to open up that set. Maybe this year I'll really do it.

Yeah, I saw it years ago and remember really liking it. As you said, fun and dark, really more mystery/thriller than horror but it could probably still count.
