Night of the Living Dead
I need to know, for the original movie, which version of the film is better? I heard the 30th ann is complete crap. I heard the Millennium Edition is one of the best. What about the 2008 DVD releases? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a big fan of extra features and staying true to the film if it helps.

Re: Night of the Living Dead
I have the Millennium, best version I have seen. Good extras on it also. Just looked to see if you could still get it. Its only 4.49 at Amazon, nice price. I think when I got it, when it came out it was pretty expensive.

Re: Night of the Living Dead
Either of the Elite releases are the ones to get. I prefer the older (pre-Millinnium) release.

Re: Night of the Living Dead
I have both the 30th Anniversary and the Millennium Edition and the Millennium Edition is better. I wasn't aware of the 40th Anniversary one, but that might be worth getting for the documentary.

Re: Night of the Living Dead
Does the Millennium and 40th both have the same features besides the documentary or would I have to double dip to get everything?

Re: Night of the Living Dead
If I'm not mistaken, these two are considered the best releases for the film.

Thanks! So it seems like I do have to double dip and get the Elite DVD and the 40th one to get all the bonus stuff. Kind of sucks, but guess that's how people make their money.
It was just the separate releases shrink wrapped together. |
Re: Night of the Living Dead
The Weinstein release had a fantastic documentary, as well as other features and a really good commentary, thats my preferred version.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the 'Milennium Edition' that dreck release with newly-shot footage ham-fistedly wedged into the narrative, like some kind of low-rent Lucasfilm revision? Pretty sure that one met with the ire of the diehards. Take a look at the extras on the ME and try and spot Romero's name; he had nothing to do with it, outside of a re-used commentary track, which is saying alot. They interviewed him once about that DVD release, and he had this to say ... "Those guys are still friends of mine, and I said to them that I'm not going to put a heavy slam on it. So, I won't. As far as I'll go is to say that I certainly didn't like it." - Romero ... I'd always avoided that release for that reason. The Weinstein release has got great features and both commentaries from the ME, that's the definitive release in my opinion. |

Re: Night of the Living Dead
As bantafett mentioned, this is the version you want to avoid at all costs:
