I checked PERFECT BLUE (1997) also, the anime thriller that supposedly inspired BLACK SWAN, and it didn't say "horror" either.

Is there another way of checking the eligibility of films like this if IMDB doesn't list a potential title as horror?
Definitely works for the challenge imo. Very much a psychological horror film.

Nice. I haven't watched it either, so I think I'll add it to my watch list for this month.

So for prize drawings, it says

- Actively participates.
- Reaches the challenge's goal of 100.
- Completes the Checklist, Theme Nights or 31 Films Subset.
Not counting best list and trivia stuff, does this mean you can get up to 3 entries for a drawing?

For anyone looking for adequate sustenance for the Challenge, might I suggest a 5-pound bag of Haribo Gummi Bears? Only $12.55 from Amazon if you use Subscribe and Save!

I'm sure there's gonna be some empty spots from me when it comes to checking off films on the subset (Given that I've already seen many of those listed.....And my most joy for this challenge is to watch stuff I've never seen), but I'm pumped-up to give the other checklists a go!

for Synapse joining in with the prizes!

For the 'Completes the Checklist, Theme Nights or 31 Films Subset' category, yes.

I'm also adding a separate prize drawing for the checklist only. And possibly something else depending on what Synapse offers.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I had previously thought I wouldn't complete any of the checklists or subsets, but now I'm starting to think about trying to finish at least one. I guess the daily films one is out because I don't have Santa Sangre ready for Oct. 1 ...

Edit to add: Looking over the checklist, once again, the ones I'm least looking forward to seeking out are a couple of the tiles ones, especially "Attack of ..." I remember that one having far more sci-fi films than horror. This checklist will certainly be more challenging than the last time I did it.

Wasn't sure what I was going to start with, but upon finding a copy of a TCM Greatest Classics set including Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Freaks, The Haunting and House of Wax at Big Lots for $5 today, I'm all set now.

I was thinking about Gingerdead Man 3, but I've been changing my mind every 30 seconds. I guess I'll play it by ear tomorrow.

I've been letting my last 2 Netflix movies sit around for October: Lizard Baby and The Boy From Hell. And I've been letting a DVRed TCM movie hang around for the challenge - a Sophia Loren ghost-comedy called Ghosts - Italian Style. All of these are supposed to be pretty bad, so nothing like getting October off to strong start. I suppose the positive way to view things is that the month can only get better!

BTW, if I get anywhere close to 100 someone please come to my house and punch me in the face. I've got too much other stuff going on to have time to watch that many movies. But I've said the same thing in the past ... and ended up blowing off real-life responsibilities to watch more horror and hit 100.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

All right, I've added a bunch of titles to my instant queue to take care of title and actor requirements for the checklist. That's a pretty good start. I think the checklist might be something I try to tackle sooner rather than later, at least for some of the entries I know will require more effort to complete.

As for the first movie of the challenge, that's still being debated. I've at least got to slip in a cult film somewhere in there if I want to do the theme night. The countdown has really begun in earnest. We're down to almost 5 hours to go before start time!

Nice setup, clckworang.

I live in the country, but I get more than enough people pulling into my yard now (asking if I want to sell something). I can't imagine how many unwanted visitors something like that would attract.

I'm part way through the 5th season right now, and I'm planning to count the rest of the episodes as I watch them over the next week or so. (I used my Wildcards to count a season of Dexter a couple of years back, but that was before TV shows were allowed.)

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Anyone else going through an ungodly amount of prep work before the Challenge kicks off? I'm trying to get all of my dvds shelved up where they belong, get new titles into some binders, clear a bit more space from the DVR and trying to squeeze in one last non-horror flick. Not to mention trying to eat dinner. Also, I've been discussing what movies my son and I can watch together this year. He's almost 9, so I'm trying to plan things out carefully.

Still, all that being said, I wouldn't have it any other way. This is gonna be a blast.

I sure have. I have spent many hours figuring out a plan to cover each part of the challenge while watching all but 2 of the movies from the 31 day subset and using only movies available from Netflix, the local library, movies I own and movies that I have on the DVR or can get free from Dish on Demand. Occupying myself with all of those challenges helps me to handle the problem of actually waiting until Midnight tonight to start. Waiting to start is actually harder!

My ungodly amount of work was solving the checklist in 30 movies with currently owned titles. Mowing the lawn when I get home might count since I also have to make up for a few weeks of not trimming.

Right now I'm debating on doing the 31 Film subset which also gets me a completed the theme night list. The only problem with doing both of those is that I've already set myself up for 61 movies, so squeezing in anything else that I'm in the mood for would be tight.

Not a whole lot of prep work going on for me... I'm pretty much leaving everything in its normal spot on the movie shelf, but I am writing out a list of what I want to record for when I'm near the recorder. I'm getting incredibly anxious though, I'll you that. As soon as midnight hits its [Rec 2] and then something else. I'm debating if I want to get beers between 10 and 12 to properly kick things off

Your son is at a good age to get into slightly more serious movies than what most kids watch. How about Monster Squad, Ghostbusters, some of the classic Universal monster flicks or the Abbott & Costello monster flicks? Original King Kong or Godzilla? All pretty tolerable for a young one and they could probably appreciate the stuff more than a jaded teenager who needs flashy robots and bra and panty shots to enjoy it.

Yeah, just spent an ungodly amount of time fixing up my list for this year alone. And I still have to get some writing done before tonight but it's hard to concentrate with everything else I want to be doing.

That's a beautiful setup, clckworang. It looks incredible, I can't imagine how much fun that must be. I showed the pics to my wife and it's inspired both of us to try something like that if we ever get to live in a house. And find a job.

I think for our first flick of the challenge, we're going to use Santa Sangre as the launch pad since it's conveniently the first subset film and my wife's been wanting to watch it for over a year now. I'm actually thinking of using the whole 9:00 PM Pacific time loophole for the first time this year. The last few years I've been a stickler for starting at midnight, but there's a lot I want to get to this month and I don't know what further calamities could befall us later on in the month. Besides, I just spent two months in New York trying to land a job so that we could move there, and I still feel like I'm living by that time difference, so that's got to count for something, right?

Earlier this week I decided to pull almost all of my eligible titles off the shelf and pile them all together on the floor next to my entertainment stand. No particular order... if I'm still up to get a fresh start at midnight tonight, I'll probably put in whatever's on top of the pile, which happens to be... 1408 (2007)! However, seeing how I have a full schedule tomorrow, I'm not sure if I'm gonna be up to start right at midnight.

Only 3-and-a-half more hours until it starts and 5 hours until I get done work. Then it's buh-bye porn and hello, well, torture porn.

Scratch that. I'm gonna hold off on the trivia question until next weekend (10/8). Forgot this thing kicked off on a Saturday when I posted that and really don't want to start right out of the gate. And I didn't give enough advance notification anyway. Sorry for the false alarm.

Going with the Blair Witch Project on Blu ray. Haven't seen it since it came out in theaters.

I also organized all my movies last night. It's going to be mostly all Blu rays for this challenge.

Last year I kicked of the challenge at a theater for the midnight release of Hatchet 2. This year, in my room.
