I thought the same thing back when it came out. Everyone said it was great and I didn't see any of that.

Watched House (1977) last night, then caught up on some TV with the wife and started Black Sheep in the bedroom, which will be my bedroom movie. The Tivo also recorded Lake Placid, so that'll be next.

Right now I'm not sure what to watch, so I'll probably just go with the Pure Terror 50 movie set and start at the beginning, checking first to make sure I don't hit some Last House on the Left type film with the kids there. I love how they throw things like that randomly in those sets. Old black and white horrors and then a movie from the 70s with a guy raping and killing women. Then back to the older films.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Question about Phantasm:
"The film was originally rated X by the MPAA because of the silver sphere sequence, and due to a scene involving a man urinating on the floor after falling down dead. After Los Angeles Times film critic Charles Champlin made a telephone call in a favor to a friend on the board, the rating was changed from the (commercially non-viable) X-rating to R."

So would Phantasm qualify for the X rating on the checklist?

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

movie #1- Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

First time watching this and very disappointed. This film proves once and foir all, no one can replace Robert Englund. He is Freddy! I hated the teenagers. All of them seemed lifeless and boring.

One thing they did improve on was the special effects and a lot more gorem which is always a good thing i guess. That still doesn't make the movie good and is yet another pointless remake.

That's a good idea. Look like I've got more posts to make.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I need help with a couple of questions. First, does anybody know if Santa Sangre on Netflix Streaming qualifies for the NC-17 rating category. Second, can someone suggest movies for the 1890's and 1910's categories that might be available on YouTube or something like that?

The Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots (1895) and Frankenstein (1910) count, but due to the run times you have to use a wild card, or watch some other shorts to count as an entry. And both of those are on youtube.

I am using these movies that are streaming online. Either YouTube or elsewhere. Just do a google search for them:

Le Manoir du diable (The House of the Devil) - 1896
The Sealed Room - 1909
Frankenstein - 1910

As mentioned previously, you would need to use a wildcard to watch them. I think the longest one is Frankenstein at 13 minutes.

YES! I love seeing Sledgehammer mentioned. I had to review it a while back, and it is unforgettable in how wonderfully terrible it is. It's just a blast to watch, and even better with alcohol and friends. Like you, SethDLH, I am considering ordering Things. I loved Sledgehammer so much, and the special features were worth the price, so I am hoping that Things follows suit.

Don't know about you guys, but I'm a big Twitter fan (@MichaelCWalsh) and I'm bringing my October Horror Movie Challenge discussion there. Going to use hashtag #ohmc to discuss the films I watch.

i have no issues with remakes. i actually enjoy lot of them, but noes just failed imo. you have a proven franchise and story to follow added with sfx of todayhow could you fail? change the look of the icon...i even made myself overlook the change in appearance, but imo he just didnt give life to the character that robert did. add in the results of the wall gag that somehow looked worse then the original? and i lost all hope.

Never seen the remake of NOES and to be honest, after all I had heard about it when it came out, I never really wanted to. But right now, I am watching the original NOES. No one can replace Robert Englund as Freddy in my opinion.

For those of who are trying to complete the checklist, The Gorgon is showing a few times this month on the Sony Movie Channel. That would take care of a few checklist items, including actress Barbara Shelley, director Terrence Fisher, 1960s film, composer James Bernard and probably a couple of others.

I *think* it has been used for that before but maybe someone else could weigh in on it.

Agreed! The film was pretty terrible. Also as you mentioned the effects from 1984 were 10 times more effective than the effects from the Remake, which is just silly!

I kind of liked how the Remake dove into Freddy's background more, but at times it was a little too blunt.

On a random note, I love how this Challenge always reminds me every year how much I love Horror on Blu-Ray

I thought about getting up early today to try and get another in, but didn't. I won't be home until 11pm tonight so I'll only get 1 in tonight. Oh well...

Thank you for the reminder, it slipped my mind until you brought it up.

I can tell during this whole month I'm going to be neurotic about how much I sleep. My first thought upon waking was "shit, slept too long." I just put on Blood for Dracula so at least I'm firing off right away.

My .02 on NOES 2010: Garbage. Freddy was a mumbling dwarf that was about as threatening as a hobo and the ending destroyed any good will I had tried to muster for it.

Spoiler:

"Watch out, it's Freddy!"
*snip*
"Well, he's dead."

Only good thing I can give it is it made me be less harsh on the F13 remake since it showed me things can always get worse.

F13 remake looked great compared to NOES remake... and I hate the F13 remake.

Finally got to watch Stake Land. I enjoyed it. I have wee bit of an obsession with Danielle Harris and didn't even know she was in this so was quite surprised to see her. Plus, I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic films.

Per imdb.com the Netflix Santa Sangre matches the uncut run time of 123 minutes (versus 120 for edited) therefore in my mind qualifies as a NC-17 title (although it did not seem graphic enough to justify NC-17 to me).
