What to do with my dvds?

There's probably a better forum for posting this but I'm not allowed to post anywhere else in DVDtalk so am asking here. Luck you guys, I won you in the divorce.

I don't want my new place to look like Block Buster so am thinking of getting a binder to put all my disks in. Thoughts? I don't have that many as the ex took most of the dvds. Does anyone have any experience with binders? I have no desire to display any of them, don't care about "cool" cases or the like.

Thank you!!

Back when I had CDs I kept them in binders they eventually got scratched to hell. I'd imagine DVDs would be no different.

When they were married, she was only allowed to post in Otter while her husband could post in the main forum (and other areas?). I am assuming the divorce kept those boundaries.

Now I'm curious if there's actually wording in the divorce decree regarding DVDTalk :)

I wouldn't put them in binders. No matter how careful you are, they'll get scratched. You could get some cd jewel cases, which would take up less room. You could keep the artwork in a binder in clear plastic pages like you would for magazines.

I'm using these large 900 disc capacity cases. The sleeve are double sided and numbered. They hang in rows built into the case. The sleeves also have the soft material in the back. I find they're perfect for storing large amounts as long as they are single sided discs. The soft backing only protects one side, with the label side showing through the outer plastic. So far I haven't had any issues whatsoever with scratching. Frankly, I'm still trying to figure out just how badly you'd have to mishandle things in order to scratch the discs.

You could get a binder and just keep the artwork in it, numbered. Then get one of those 400-DVD changers and keep your DVDs in that. I think Amazon still has some of them for sale.

I created a file system using paper cd/dvd envelopes and Really Useful Boxes from OfficeMax. I did it over a year ago and have never had a DVD get scratched.

Put them in slimline CD jewel cases. Here's a picture of what I did.

It really compresses the collection while protecting the discs.

Depends on the binder. I've run across some that are crappy but most of the ones I have are good(currently using 28 binders).

I've got a lot of binders too. I've got a few that aren't so good, but most protect the dvds fairly well.

Exactly. Good quality binders won't scratch discs. Unless the binders are stored on the top of a washing machine or in the trunk of a car, even poor quality binders won't scratch discs.

I used to have a binder for CDs in my car that rode on the passenger seat all the time, CDs got wrecked by taking them in and out. I'd say 98% never skipped because of it but they didn't look good.

I found some $1 plastic (stackable) cd bins at the local dollar store and use those. I get some cheap paper/plastic sleeves and put the actual discs in those, pull out all of the inserts and keep those in a big box, and throw the cases away. This has saved me a ton of storage space for my few thousand dvds.

Re: What to do with my dvds?

i have been using caseless system for over 10 years. I use caselogic 200 DVD/CD organizers. Register everything with DVDprofiler for reference. Store discs in cases in alphabetical order. Leave plenty of room per sleeve (i started with only 1 disc per sleeve waay back when. If necessary, I add sleeves. only once did it get unmanageable and I had to buy another organizer and reshuffle some..

I have almost 2000 movies in 8 organizers that take up a cubby hole 2'x2'.

I file all the covers in separate binders with plastic sleeves - in alphabetical order. I pack all the cases in boxes and store them away - mainly for when I sell something.

The only wrinkle in this is those blasted snappers.. Those I store in separate boxes..

No problems playing anything...

My only concern is those horrible DVD-18.. I no longer put them in the binders, but leave them in the original cases now. Have so few of these, that have only a few very taking up shelf space.

I separate my domestic vs foreign films, and able to bring my ENTIRE foreign collection (3 binders) over to someones house. had fun picking films to see.

When I move, I will simply take the 8 binders with me in the car, and the let the movers worry about the boxes. If anything every gets damaged in transit, I still have my 2000 movies with me safely.

couldn't be more happier with this system.

I'm running out of space, but I don't think I could put them in binders. I may end up going the route of the slim jewel cd case but unsure whether you can add a cover to them and be able to read what the title is from looking at the spine? When I'm looking for something to watch, I look on the shelf -not the list on my computer. Any advice?

Convert to thinpaks. Most of us who have gone the binder route did so when browsing shelves became an impracticle answer due to lack of shelf space. Once you start running out of shelves, then the piles start. Then the piles start growing in rooms where you never stored movies before and pretty soon it's difficult to find anything.

I went the slimpack route, and have converted maybe 1000 of my titles to them. Double the space for pennies on the title.

Where'd you get 1,000 slim dvd cases?
