Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

The universal constant is that every new DVD release of a show sells incrementally less. In the case of older shows like these, often devistatingly less. Then factor in the economy, sluggish DVD sales in general and the fact that these Nickelodeon shows had very large amounts of episodes (Wild Thornberries has almost 100 episodes and Hey Arnold HAS 100) and will now necessitate 6-9 DVD sets to even complete.

I know that retailers have told Shout that they prefer smaller sets, but will they be in any rush to order copies of the 5th or 6th DVD set of these shows, especially if the last one didn't pull in Simpsons or Family Guy-sized sales? Seems like Shout! is setting itself up for another crop of incomplete/abandoned shows.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I just hope Hey Arnold! gets to the end of S3, as that's the only season I didn't get from Amazon MOD. I'd love to have pressed releases of S4 and S5 too, of course, but I just can't see them getting that far..

Danny Phantom: Season Two, Part One - April 3, 2012

The Wild Thornberrys: Season Two, Part Two - April 24, 2012

It sucks that these half-season sets are now the norm, but at least we're getting a steady output of releases.

Damn it what's taking so long for them to put out Doug.

I'd love that too, but it appears they are finishing up the series they have already begun before beginning anything else. We'll just have to wait

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

After the June releases, here's how many sets it would take to finish the current crop of shows.

Wild Thornberries: 4 (Season 3 will probably be split 12-12-12; Seasons 4 and 5 were short and can be combined into one set)
Rocko's Modern Life: 2 (Joe Murray has confirmed Season 3 is in the works)
Hey Dude: 2
Hey Arnold: 6
Angry Beavers: 2
Danny Phantom: 2
AAAHH!!! Real Monsters: 2
Catdog: 3 (Season 4 was short; combine with Season 3 to get 26, divide into two sets of 13).

Almost all of these are only a couple of sets away from completion, and if Shout keeps releasing shows bi-monthly, a few will almost certainly be complete by the end of the year.

Will Shout! bicycle in Rugrats, Doug, Salute Your Shorts, etc. as existing shows are completed? I'm not optimistic; no one at Shout has mentioned trying to get rights, talking to Nickelodeon about expanding their current deal, or any possibility for additional library shows.

Then again, I don't think this has been unprofitable for either Shout or Nick; they've only released at least one show a month (with one exception) since last May, with releases lined up into the end of June.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

I'm optimistic, obviously they're making money on these. They wouldn't keep releasing them if they weren't, so I have a feeling they'll get the rights eventually. At least for Doug and possibly Salute Your Shorts and even Kenan & Kel. I say those because it seems they are releasing the shows that were available via Amazon MOD or iTunes and those shows were all available on one or the other (Doug was on both).

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

Even though it hasn't been officially announced yet, it looks like Rocko Season 3 is close to going gold. Here's the final cover art (Joe Murray posted it on his Facebook).

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

Thanks. First post updated.

Looks like we'll have Rocko's Modern Life (one of my most-wanted on DVD for the longest time) completed by the end of the year. Seems too good to be true.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

It looks like Season 3 of Rocko will indeed be complete. The iTunes releases and Neflix are inexplicably missing episodes.

I'm still worried about Hey Dude:season 3. One episode (Melody's Brother) is a Very Special Episode about alcoholism and isn't part of the iTunes releases.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

I haven't bought the Rocko sets yet because they remain to be the edited episodes, but unfortunately I think this is all we'll ever get. I have old original Nickelodeon recordings of the episodes but the tapes are nearly deteriorated, so I guess these will have to do.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

Angry Beavers - Season 3: Part 2 - August 14th
Danny Phantom - Season 2: Part 2 - August 28th

So after August, Danny Phantom and Angry Beavers will only need one more set to be complete. Here's how we're looking now:

Wild Thornberries: 4 (Season 3 will probably be split 12-12-12; Seasons 4 & 5 were short and can be combined into one set)
Rocko's Modern Life: 1
Hey Dude: 2
Hey Arnold: 5
Angry Beavers: 1
Danny Phantom: 1
AAAHH!!! Real Monsters: 2
Catdog: 3 (Season 4 was short; combine with Season 3 to get 26, divide into two sets of 13).

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

I've still yet to buy one of the split season releases, yet I've bought almost every complete season release available. I just can't stand a split season of a TV show. I don't think I've ever supported it even once, and as much as I really want almost all of these (except for Danny Phantom) I don't know if I'll ever be able to buy them.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

AAAHH!!! Real Monsters - Season 3 - September 11th
Catdog - Season 2: Part 2 - September 25th

...and apparently Melody's Brother will indeed be included in Hey Dude: Season 3.

Where we will be after the September releases.

Wild Thornberries: 4 (Season 3 will probably be split 12-12-12; Seasons 4 & 5 were short and can be combined into one set)
Rocko's Modern Life: 1
Hey Dude: 2
Hey Arnold: 5
Angry Beavers: 1
Danny Phantom: 1
AAAHH!!! Real Monsters: 1
Catdog: 2 (Season 4 was short; combine with Season 3 to get 26, divide into two sets of 13).

Rocko's Modern Life will most likely be the first Nickelodeon show to be completed, since the shows are released in mostly the same pattern, and Rocko will come up again in October or November.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

I bought the first two seasons of Rocko when they came out, but I may have to wait a little while for the third season, because money is kinda tight.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

So, Melody's Brother is indeed on Hey Dude: Season 3, but it comes from a pretty worn VHS copy (with appropriate disclaimers.)

I thought Nick has deliberately kept it off TeenNick and iTunes due to political correctness, but they really did apparently have problems with the master if that's all Shout could get.

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

Not a SHOUT! release, but the guy that played Donkey Lips on Salute Your Shorts is selling complete series Dvd/Blu Ray of show with extras through his site http://heybower.com/ . Bit expensive but I might pick it up....

Re: Nickelodeon/Shout! Factory Releases

I can't imagine Nickelodeon would be okay with him selling the show on his site. I might consider placing an order...not sure.

EDIT: Here's a "quality sample" video - http://vimeo.com/39375409

It's actually kinda sad watching him sell these himself.
