I've observed that those with Netflix streaming have a slight advantage (you still need time, though). I'm pulling most of the movies I'm watching from my collection, except for a few scraps (three movies) I can find on the net, because they're still only available on VHS (if you can find a copy) or not available on any physical media. Having Netflix streaming makes something like this a lot easier for more people to participate in.

Trying to get some work done so I can't watch anything that will use up any part of my brain. Showgirls is the obvious choice.

I have that box set, too, but the Italian westerns I've watched so far for this challenge have come from two other box sets, including the Sartana one.

Re: Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge March 31-April 30 2011

I've been sick as hell for the better part of the last week, and I've spent most of the last three days in bed. I got up periodically yesterday and even tried to squeeze in a movie for this challenge. I decided to finally check out Histoire d'O (The Story of O). I was familiar with the premise, but hadn't seen the movie. How you can have that much sex and nudity and still make one of the most boring movies I've ever seen, I'll never understand. After the first 20 minutes, it became a race to see whether I could make it to the end before the medicine kicked in. Sadly, I did.

Out of curiosity, what sexploitation categories does that movie satisfy? Does it count as a "roughie," for instance? "70s porn?" "Shocksploitation?"

Re: Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge March 31-April 30 2011

I'm going into my third week with this cold and it's moved to my chest. I feel about as bad as I did the first week after feeling somewhat better last week. Anyway, good question. I suppose it can satisfy the roughie category, even if it's technically not a Doris Wishman-esque roughie. I think there was a generic "any type", but I imagine that gets filled up quickly. But I have the film and will take your recommendation to steer away. Boring is a worse sin than bad.

In 10,000 Dollars Blood Money, the head bandito, or should I say bandita, is wearing as much, if not more, eye makeup than the whores in the film.

Yeah, that's the guy that's going to strike fear into people the first time they see him. He even looks pretty on his wanted poster.

Hulu has a ton of stuff, too, including several films from the MGM Midnight Movie line.

I don't know how many movies I'll be watching for the Challenge now that Mortal Kombat 9 is out

At least I'm only 2 films away from hitting my goal of 50!

I'm almost at 50 and might stop when I hit it. Disturbingly, I think I'm getting burned out.

I've been really varying the movies I see for this and that's been keeping it fresh for me. Plus, a lot of B-movies are short, which really helps.

I need to see one really long one for this challenge before it's over. Something like INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS or THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY, or ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.

if you haven't seen Once Upon A Time In The West i say watch that. the good the bad and the ugly is great but there is just something about OUATITW that makes it so good. it rips off every western that came before it and yet stands on its own, its the perfect western to end a western marathon with. the score is amazing, the actors are all fantastic (Jason Robards in particular), plus the opening is just so bad ass. i like to play the movie as loud is i can and try to watch it once a year.

You don't have to sell me on Leone. I'm a grindhouse veteran. I saw ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST when it opened in New York back in 1969 and have seen it both on the big screen and small screen many times since. It was actually the first Leone I saw. I caught up with the "Man with No Name" trilogy later that year when the three films played on double and triple and quadruple features (with HANG 'EM HIGH) in Times Square theaters. I remember one Saturday when a friend and I loaded up on food to take to the theater with us (Blimpie sandwiches being the meal of choice back then) and we spent the whole day watching all three films in the trilogy, plus HANG 'EM HIGH, back-to-back. But THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY remains my favorite of all of them. The "unrestored" version, that is.

My concern for this challenge, since I've been watching so many relatively short movies, was to identify the longest film that would qualify and those three I mentioned--INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, OUATITW, and TGTBATU, were the ones I came up with. I just feel I need to see at least one really long one for the challenge and those three are all close to three hours. Anyone else have suggestions for films with "epic" running times that would qualify?

I have a few two hour long ones in my list. Can't remember which ones but there's maybe 4 of them.

I've only seen one movie over two hours for this challenge and it was the Bollywood actioner "Dhoom 2". Looking on Netflix, most of the Bollywood movies run towards the two and half hour mark.

I just watched one on Monday night that was filled with marijuana use--HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. If I'd made the connection, so to speak, I would have saved it for today.

This weekend is Easter, so it's a good time for religious exploitation. I was watching American Grindhouse and they stated Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ was modern exploitation, and I agree. If the Footmen Tire You, What Will the Horses Do? and The Burning Hell are good ones, and there's always Kirk Cameron's Left Behind series. This Stuff'll Kill Ya! and the Preacherman movies are suggestions.

a bit OT, but anyone recommend other films similar to Dark Forces aka Harlequin? I just saw this 2 days ago and it was a trip.

I have access to two all-black films from the 1940s that fit into this genre: THE BLOOD OF JESUS (1941) and GO DOWN DEATH (1944), both directed by and starring Spencer Williams (Andy on TV's "Amos 'n' Andy").

I hadn't thought of Bollywood, but yeah, that's where the long ones are. Two-and-a-half-hours is actually short for traditional Bollywood. I have a lot of Bollywood movies in my collection. The first one I saw and the one I fell in love with was MOHABBATEIN (2000), one of the best musicals I've ever seen, which is about three hours and 45 min. total. DEVDAS, another great one, is just over three hours. Maybe I'll watch one of those again for this challenge.

I've been spending so much time concentrating on my DVD collection for this challenge, I forgot all about Netflix, which I have plenty of movies on my Netflix instant queue. Right now I am watching Enter the Dragon.

I will enjoy it in 2-3 months when it reaches the top of my half of the "to watch" pile.

Had the wife been interested it would have been 3-4 month before it reached the top of our half of the "to watch" pile.

Mine was the Russ Meyer book so it'll be read after this challenge is over.

I'm a Blu-ray snob who has gotten the physical discs of Billy Jack and Enter the Dragon mailed to him instead of just streaming them.
