Just finished watching Hi-Riders and it is a weird hybrid Biker movie/ Drag race movie. Lot of great stunts. Photographed by the guy who did Halloween in CinemaScope. Apparently one guy died doing a stunt, but I'm not sure if they kept the stunt in the film. Definitive Drive-in flick.
I'm hoping to get through 3 more films that involve great car related scenes by the end of tonight (Death Proof, Dead End Drive-In, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry)

at the random Racism towards Asians in Dead-End Drive In. Such a random addition to the plot.
Anyone else going for theme days? I'm trying to watch as much of one theme in my collection and then moving on to others.

I might repeat what I did last year (Thanks to the Alamo Drafthouse) like Terror Tuesday & Weird Wednesday double-features. I might run a lil' short on the weird selections though.

Okay, so I just finished a pair of movies with Johnny Cash: a 1981 TV movie, The Pride of Jesse Hallum, and a 1961 feature, Five Minutes to Live. In Jesse Hallum, Cash plays an illiterate Kentucky widower who takes his kids to Cincinnati so his daughter can receive needed surgery and we see how hard it is for him to make it in the big city without being able to read. It felt like "hicksploitation" to me, based as much as it was on the fact that growing up in Appalachia was the reasoning for Jesse making it so far in life without being literate, but I'm pretty new to these exploitation genres. It's not a horror movie, but it certainly relies on more than a few country stereotypes.
The other, Five Minutes to Live, has Cash as the gun man in two-man robbery. He's assigned to hold hostage the wife of the bank's vice president, while his employer goes the bank and gets the husband to withdraw $70,000 from the vault and hand it over. Cash plays one of the most sadistic, creepy screen villains I've seen in quite some time, actually; the intensity of his performance is somewhat incongruous with the otherwise ho-hum production. Anyway, it was made in '61 so it seems too recent to count on the checklist for "Hollywood Gangster film" and it's not "gangsta" so it's clearly not a "Hood film." Is there just not a spot on the checklist for something like this?

Seems ok to me. I'm thinking Disney's Treasure Island might be too much, and the Errol Flynn ones from the 40s but I can't think of any others from the 50s that wouldn't count. It's like westerns. Outside of the biggies, they are all welcome.
"Film starring a music star who did not become a legitimate actor."
Only 2 people even completed the checklist last year, and that was with 10 free spots. It's more for a guide to applicable films than an actual achievement. If you do complete it, you are hardcore.

I am! Started with Blaxploitation yesterday and am moving on to Seagal movies today. We'll see how long it lasts and how long I can group things I want to watch together.

Thank you for mentioning this movie. I hadn't heard of it before and I watched it last night. What a riot! I'll burn for it, but I was laughing the whole time. I'll have to look for some more films like that.

If I watched say 10 Mill Creek movies would that count as all the items on my safe distributors list or only 1?

I started with The Case of the Scorpion's Tale, I'm a bit dissapointed as the first 30 minutes and last 20 seemed familiar but the middle only in instances so I must have watched it before and dosed off. It really didn't do much for me.

Don't know how many I'm going to be able to squeeze in today, but I think my next three are going to be Zotz, 2019: After the Fall of New York, and The Silencers, not necessarily in that order.
The Silencers just came in from Japan, along with the rest of the Matt Helm movies. I'm hoping it's an uncut edition and I can't wait till next month to find out. Even though it's got Victor Buono as the villain, it's likely too big-budget, so I'm probably going to wild card it.

Does an Elizabeth Taylor movie count? I say this because Secret Ceremony is tonight's main feature on TCM Underground.
