Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

I got the Mirmax Psycho Killer Series, included Halloween 6/H20/8/Mother's Boy, and I bought it at Target for $8.99 so yeah. But so many typos all over this DVD. On the back, Michael Myers is spelled Meyers in the description. And the DVD Menu claims Halloween 6's title is: "Halloween VI: the Curse of Mike Myers", I don't know if they did that to save Title room, but they should of just put "Halloween VI" not Mike Myers. It bothers me for some reason.

I would say so. I've never seen a non-anamorphic 1.78/1.85:1 screenshot that didn't have hard matting.

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

Can you tell me if H20 is presented in its OAR of 2.35:1? Or has it been cropped to 1.78 like the Blu-Ray release?

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

Well, hopefully Echo Bridge will milk the titles for all they're worth and then license them back to LGF or Anchor Bay.

That screenshot looks like it's been cropped.

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

So it's seeming that any film that was 1:85 is OAR anamorphic Widescreen, but the films that are 2:35 are being cropped to 1:78?
I was hoping to get the Prophecy with Christopher Walken as the old dvd was non anamorphic 2:35. I will only buy this if it is anamorphic 2:35.
Can anyone confirm what the aspect ratio is?
Please don't say it looks wide. That really doesn't help anything as I need to know what the ratio actually is. If you can't see any bars on the tv then it is not 2:35. Even on a widescreen tv, 2:35 will have small bars on the top and bottom of the tv.
-thanks

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

I finaly got my hands on the triple feature DVD. Personaly, except for the front of the DVD case and all the press releases, there is nothing here on this flimsey cheaply made package which would have made me think that this was anything but a bootleg. A very badly made bootleg.

For those wanting the COTC2 DVD without spending any money (like a sensible person would do), send an e-mail and pray to god.

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

Looks to me like it's 1.78:1, but open matte, meaning there's more image than with the original 2.35:1

Strange, I guess that means H20 was filmed in super 35 right?

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

Just picked up the Echo Bridge/Miramax Hellraiser Series with Hellraiser III, IV, V, & VI (1 flipper, 2 movies per side) on sale at Target for $8.99. Haven't watched any of them yet, I'll probably want to watch from the first Hellraiser when I do.

Looks like Hellraiser III is fullscreen on this edition (even though it doesn't actually say), 93 min., IV, V, & VI are WS (as stated on the case). -kd5-

I missed the memo that the 'From Dusk Til Dawn' only features 2.0 sound - okay, I'm livid. what a fucking joke, my laserdisc copy had a killer 5.1 DTS track....

Does anyone know which, if either, company has the rights to City of God, Echo Bridge or Lionsgate?

I would guess Lionsgate. The prestige titles seem to have gone to them; I doubt Echo Bridge wants to deal with anything that needs English language subtitles because they can't sell it to morons at Wal-Mart for $3.

Sadly, Echo Bridge seems to have the following titles (based on them re-releasing the DVDs). So not all schlock and action, horror and sci-fi genre films.

Dead Man (1995): Jim Jarmusch
Dirty Pretty Things (2002): Stephen Frears
Grifters, The (1990): Stephen Frears
Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002)
Fresh (1994)
Welcome to Sarajevo (1997): Michael Winterbottom
Heaven (2002): Tom Tykwer/Krzysztof Kieslowski
Renaissance (2006)
Smoke Signals (1998)
Human Stain, The (2003): Robert Benton
Proof (2005)
Blindness (2008): Fernando Meirelles
Two Hands (1999)
Nameless, The (1999) (Los sin nombre)
Shipping News, The (2001): Lasse Hallström
Gerry (2002): Gus Van Sant
eXistenZ (1999): David Cronenberg
Hole, The (2001)
Little Buddha (1993): Bernardo Bertolucci
Marvin's Room (1996)
I Inside, The (2004)
Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain, The (1995)
Into the West (1992): Mike Newell
Crossing Guard, The (1995): Sean Penn/Jack Nicholson
Albino Alligator (1996)
Two Bits (1995)
Music of the Heart (1999)
Jersey Girl (2004)

After watching a con-themed episode of Chuck, I was just wondering who would have the Blu rights to The Grifters.

DEAD MAN and eXistenZ are the only two movies on that list that really make me despise EchoBridge.

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

Echo Bridge offered Miramax more money that we (Shout) did.... and you can see that Miramax was more concerned about cash than having someone take care of their libary.

It's sad how Miramax allowed such a great collection of films go to a chopshop like Echo Bridge when companies that would have put a lot more effort into their releases (such as Shout) would have treated these movies right (and I wouldn't mind spending the extra $7/8 a title).

At this point I wished these were Burn on Demand DVDRs...

Re: Echo Bridge Takes On Miramax DVD Titles

Very true... but if Echo Bridge cared about what they were doing and knew, like I did, that Paramount had a nice transfer, they would have contacted Paramount to get access to the master.
I was able to borrow several Corman prints from them to do film transfers with no problem (Paramount had some TV rights).

Distributors eventually loose the rights to films, but whatever they created for the property remain theirs. Extras, package design, even new masters they funded stay with them even if they can't release it. Echo Bridge probably found a foreign distributor who had an old full frame video master and used it. I doubt they are going to spend the money to do a whole new transfer of a film they are selling for 5 bucks, actually who knows how much for wholesale, maybe 3 dollars.

Probably not saying anything you don't already know but it is more than likely 2 features on a BD-25 (don't know that for certain, just speculating based on their other releases and known shoddy quality), missing the DVD extras, probably has downgraded 2.0 audio when the DVD was the native 5.1 mix, and 'My Boss's Daughter' appears to be the PG-13 cut.

Any upgrade is likely to be in terms of picture quality only and even then probably below even an average catalog release. I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to find the release cheaper in the near future (as the Echo Bridge releases seem dramatically overpriced for their shoddy quality in comparison to tons of other decent to quality releases around the same price points) so that there is no harm in waiting even if the above specs interest you.

Given their public domain like company standards, it is even possible they will release the titles individually in the future with slightly improved encodes if both features do indeed share a BD-25 (they make sense like that.. do it wrong multiple times in different ways).
