Criterion gives numerous hints for 2011

Released their annual whacky drawing hinting at various releases...

http://criterioncast.com/wp-content/...year_2010a.jpg

A good collection of the guesses for each can be found here. It seems the two aspects that can't be remotely guessed at are the boat itself and the snow. Though I do wonder if Breaking the Waves is hinted at by the, well, breaking waves! Any guesses here?

Most excited for White Material, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and Roeg's Insignificance. Kuroneko, Kiss Me Deadly, and Carlos are others i'll most definitely be getting...but we knew about those. add in blu upgrades for Wild Strawberries, Solaris, and Diabolique and it's already looking like a great year!

I am excited for Y Tu Mama Tambien. One of my faves and I know Criterion will treat it good. I hope the snow means a Blu upgrade for The Ice Storm but I doubt it :(

I guessed "The Life Aquatic" for the boat, but nobody seems to think that's a good idea.

I can only hope for a release of 'Breaking the Waves'. I would love to see this film and since the previous release was non-anamorphic & OOP I've held off trying to obtain a copy.

Breaking The Waves would be great. And as I said in the Blu-Ray topic, Y Tu Mama Tambien would be a nice upgrade, just because we know we'd get a Blu-Ray release...

As a Spillane fan, kinda charged about "Kiss Me Deadly" even with all the story changes. Bring me more Mike Hammer plox.

That's what I guessed but it was really just wishful thinking on my part.

the Einstein in a Marilyn Monroe outfit is a sure shot to be Nicholas Roeg's 'Insignificance'

it involves a surreal bar encounter between Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein, and Babe Ruth (i think that's the baseball player). i haven't seen the film since i was 12 - needless to say it was over my head in maturity. can't wait to see it again!

actually, the "Sunday" on the calendar (according to CriterionCast) seems to allude to John Schlesinger's 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' - which would be an utterly disappointing and mundane Criterion release. it was an okay flick, but almost anti-climactic and rather boring. There oughtta be a Criterion treatment for 'Day of the Locust' instead. that was Schlesinger's finest 2 hours!!

I'm all for Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Also up for Insignificance.

Hoping cul-de-sac is on the way as well.

someone noticed that with the kid with the pillow over his head there looks to be Four Feathers coming out of the pillow!

The Globe is also clearly The Great Dictator. Even more excited for that one.

They also randomly posted the trailer for Picnic At Hanging Rock on their facebook page yesterday - a title that's been rumored for an upgrade for a couple of years now may finally be a reality this year.
