This looks like a very nice set but I always wonder the market for sets like this. Collecting a studios films is a good idea in theory but with the varied genres I find it odd that there is a large amount of people that enjoy musicals like South Pacific and Moulin Rouge, popcorn blockbusters like Speed, critical acclaimed dramas like Boys Don't Cry and alien horror films like Alien. Before anyone replies to me, I'm sure people like that do exist. I, myself, enjoy a varied genre of films. I'm just wondering beyond a small group of people who would pay $400 for a collection of films that is so varied. |

Nice looking set but nothing that I'm personally interested in owning...

Re: 20th Century Fox 75th anniv. Collection - Dec. 7
I've seen the overwhelming majority of titles on Volumes one and two and most on Vol. 3, but there are very few I'd want to own.
I would break these sets up differently, by genre/subject, etc. Here's the kind of thing I'd propose to Fox, if I were an employee there, with some duplication among categories, until the final categories are determined. Early Technicolor: RAMONA (1936) DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK (1939) HOLLYWOOD CAVALCADE (1939) JESSE JAMES (1939) THE LITTLE PRINCESS THE BLUE BIRD (1940) CHAD HANNA (1940) BLOOD AND SAND (1941) THE BLACK SWAN (1942) THE GANG'S ALL HERE (1943) MY FRIEND FLICKA (1943) Americana STEAMBOAT ROUND THE BEND (and other Will Rogers movies) KENTUCKY YOUNG MR. LINCOLN MARYLAND SWANEE RIVER CHAD HANNA HOME IN INDIANA STATE FAIR MARGIE I'D CLIMB THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN Musicals: ALEXANDER'S RAGTIME BAND TIN PAN ALLEY DOWN ARGENTINE WAY THAT NIGHT IN RIO SUN VALLEY SERENADE WEEKEND IN HAVANA CONEY ISLAND GREENWICH VILLAGE PIN-UP GIRL STORMY WEATHER THE KING AND I THE SOUND OF MUSIC ...a bunch of others Social Comment: THE GRAPES OF WRATH WILSON GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT THE SNAKE PIT APARTMENT FOR PEGGY PINKY NO WAY OUT PEOPLE WILL TALK VIVA ZAPATA A HATFUL OF RAIN WILD RIVER A set of bonafide classics YOUNG MR. LINCOLN THE GRAPES OF WRATH HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN JANE EYRE MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET ALL ABOUT EVE THE GUNFIGHTER PEYTON PLACE Westerns JESSE JAMES THE RETURN OF FRANK JAMES WESTERN UNION MY DARLING CLEMENTINE YELLOW SKY BROKEN ARROW THE GUNFIGHTER GARDEN OF EVIL BROKEN LANCE FORTY GUNS RUN OF THE ARROW WARLOCK War/Spy THE HOUSE ON 92ND STREET TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH THE HALLS OF MONTEZUMA FIVE FINGERS DECISION BEFORE DAWN THE FROGMEN DESTINATION GOBI CHINA GATE THE YOUNG LIONS THE LONGEST DAY Crime/Noir I WAKE UP SCREAMING HANGOVER SQUARE LAURA CALL NORTHSIDE 777 CRY OF THE CITY KISS OF DEATH THIEVES' HIGHWAY NIGHT AND THE CITY WHIRLPOOL WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS HOUSE OF BAMBOO Epics/Spectacles SUEZ THE RAINS CAME CAPTAIN FROM CASTILE FOREVER AMBER PRINCE OF FOXES THE BLACK ROSE THE ROBE DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS PRINCE VALIANT THE EGYPTIAN DESIREE CLEOPATRA Horror/Sci-fi THE LODGER THE FLY JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH THE LOST WORLD FANTASTIC VOYAGE ONE MILLION YEARS BC PLANET OF THE APES Not to mention Shirley Temple and Marilyn Monroe box sets. Just some ideas... |
Re: 20th Century Fox 75th anniv. Collection - Dec. 7
This is one of those sets that's a vanity release for the studio. No one will buy it due to price and/or owning most of the content and it'll be heavily discounted down the road.

Re: 20th Century Fox 75th anniv. Collection - Dec. 7
Agreed. It looks great on the shelf and would be great per-film value in the gold box, but people don't collect according to studio, and those interested in this kind of thing would have too many of the movies already.

Re: 20th Century Fox 75th anniv. Collection - Dec. 7
The latter films in Volume 3 feature some very questionable choices.
X-Men over X2? Mr. and Mrs. Smith? Ice Age? No... Predator? Fight Club? Road to Perdition? Borat? |
Re: 20th Century Fox 75th anniv. Collection - Dec. 7
Well, Cavalcade would be nice to have to complete my "Best Pictures" collection, but I'll be damned if I pluck down that much money for just one title. Hopefully they will release it separately one day...

Re: 20th Century Fox 75th anniv. Collection - Dec. 7
Reminds me of the UA Prestige Collection. At least that thing (albeit more expensive) has the awesome case.
