Sony releasing titles through Image at $9.98

Saw a list of these titles and saw a few neat things.

APT PUPIL - BRAD RENFRO, IAN MCKELLEN
AGAINST ALL ODDS - JEFF BRIDGES, RACHEL WARD
UNDER SUSPICION - GENE HACKMAN, MORGAN FREEMAN
THE TOY - RICHARD PRYOR, JACKIE GLEASON
TO DIE FOR - NICOLE KIDMAN, MATT DILLON
STIR CRAZY - RICHARD PRYOR, GENE WILDER
SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL - RICHARD PRYOR, GENE WILDER
RED ROCK WEST - NICHOLAS CAGE
RANDOM HEARTS - HARRISON FORD
ODESSA FILE - JON VOIGHT
NOWHERE TO RUN - ROSEANNA ARQUETTE
MEDALLION - JACKIE CHAN
JAWBREAKER - PAM GRIER, ROSE MCGOWAN
JAGGED EDGE - JEFF BRIDGES, GLENN CLOSE
I LOVE YOU TO DEATH - KEVIN KLEIN, TRACEY ULLMAN, KEANUE REEVES
HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS - MICHELLE PFEIFFER, TONY DANZA
FISHER KING - ROBIN WILLIAMS, JEFF BRIDGES, MERCEDES RUEHL
THE DEEP - JACQUELINE BISSETT, NICK NOLTE
DARKNESS FALLS - EMMA CAUFIELD
COLLECTOR - TERRANCE STAMP, SAMANTHA EGGAR
CALIFORNIA SUITE - JANE FONDA, RICHARD PRYOR, MAGGIE SMITH
BOB & CAROL & TED & ALICE - NATALIE WOOD, DYAN CANNON
BLIND DATE - BRUCE WILLIS, KIM BASSINGER
AGE OF INNOCENCE - MICHELLE PFEIFFER, DANIEL DAY LEWIS
AWAKENINGS - ROBIN WILLIAMS, ROBERT DENIRO

There's others on the list but all are still currently available in their previous form. The above are all available in their old form in the secondary market, some reasonable prices some not.

Most (but not all!) of these have a listing on Amazon already. The ones on the list that really caught my eye were:

AGAINST ALL ODDS - JEFF BRIDGES, RACHEL WARD (I don't even see a previous Region 1 listing available on Amazon)

ABSENCE OF MALICE - PAUL NEWMAN, SALLY FIELD (seems to have a high secondary market value).

And...

LOCKDOWN
- STALLONE

A Sly movie I vaguely remember but can't find a previous DVD edition for.Thing is, Lockdown is another title Image distributed. So I wonder if it is a list mistake. Not trying to throw out Red Herrings, really not sure and this is all the info I have.

NOWHERE TO RUN - ROSEANNA ARQUETTE

Umm, isn't Jean-Claude Van Damme billed over Arquette in NOWHERE TO RUN???

Wasn't Lockdown a lionsgate release? I think it was one of those films Carlco made but was distributed through Tri-Star.It was first released by IVE then LIVE entertainment.

I guess that kills the rumors of an "Absence of Malice" and "Fisher King" Criterion.

A word to the wary: a good number of these are being reissued in FULL SCREEN only.

(such as...Awakenings, Fisher King, Under Suspicion)

This was discussed a bit in the OOP thread.

I have seen some of these original issued versions at Big Lots for $3 , most recently Under Suspicion and a while back Against All Odds.

Was the way the list came to me...when I amazoned it I thought the same thing (was not familiar with movie otherwise).

You can see titles and specs over on Image's site. For example: Against All Odds 1.85:1 Anamorphic.

The Fisher King's still 1.85:1 Anamorphic.

Lockdown isn't Stallone's Lock-Up. Lionsgate releases that one. This film was released in 2000, starring Richard T. Jones.

Nowhere To Run is FULL FRAME.

I think they might have corrected that recently...looked like it was going into Full Screen last I checked... anyway, your correction/notice of this is a good thing...

It looks like (according to Image's site, at least), both their new DVD and Blu-ray versions will be 1:85/anamorphic.

you do relaize for most of these titles 4x3 full screen actually has more of the picture than 16x9 because the 35 mm film was 4x3 they used to film these movies

Joe six pack was right then, but now JSP has a WS tv. It just never ends..... I just hope they dont start screwing with the anamorphic thing....

Well, that's not good news either, since the movie is 2.35:1. :D

When I heard this was happening, I went out to grab the Sony Blu-ray, just in case... it's got great PQ, a bunch of deleted scenes, and a cool vintage featurette. I figured that some/all of that might get dropped with the switch to Image.

Sure would like to see a Fisher King BD, though. And since Sony is just willing to license that out, why not get Criterion involved? They can dust off their old LD stuff and get some new things on there as well...

EDIT: By the way, where did you find the list? I'm searching, but I can't find it.

I would wait for definite confirmation one way or the other on statements like this. Typically, when a film is reissued, it's reissued the same way it was issued the first time since they re-use the original pressing.

I wish we could get a Blu-ray release of Jawbreaker...

and is Image ever going to rerelease Ms. 45? The DVD (released in 2000) has been OOP for several years now and wasn't that good to begin with (non-anamorphic, slightly cut, no extras)
